I would like to thank the people who brought this to us with great lighting, camera work, sound, and effects. We can imagine we are there, at this miraculous performance. This video is a work of art in itself.
@RogersGibsonES137 Thanks buddy! What can I say? I've been in love with Jazz since I was 17... the first time I listened to Wes Montgomery and Charlie Parker.
@RogersGibsonES137 Yes Fusion, Al Di Meola and Brett Garsed are some of my main soloing inspirations! Standards are great tools for improv and study for future compositions... and they just sound great when put together.
Listen, Joe is taking you to a star and then suddenly at 3:14 you arrive! Genius AND gentleman, saw him many times (solo) and with Oscar Peterson. One night at the" Top of The Gate" NYC, Ubie Blake came in. He was close to 100 yrs old, Joe stud up and bowed too him, Mr. Blake did likewise. Joe then played a composition by Blake off the top of his head! He asked Blake beforehand what key was it in then just lit off to Mr. Blakes amazement and pleasure!!! Mr. Blake bowed to Joe at the end...
Bought Joes "catch me" album in the early 70's when I got out of high school.Joe was trully the greatest soloist in jazz guitar. His warmth and personality is just as amazing and sweet as his playing.A few yrs back I was trying to decide what old jazz box to buy and a "56" ES 175 was my pick.I wonder If Joe had anything to do with that decision. Thanks for blessing us all.
In the 70's I had an Ibanez 175 copy. When I was hovering between a 175 and an L5, Joe influenced my choice. I heard him play a 175 in the UK. His advice? You won't go far wrong with a 175, and the lightest flat wound strings you can get along with. I like a fatter sound, so I chose flat-wound 'elevens'. (And a Polytone Mini-brute amp.) Never regretted either decision. I never like comparing the great jazz guitarists, but Joe was right up there. Thanks for this post... Great.
Best jazz guitarist ever !

I am officially a guitar geek. Why? Because the first thing I immediately thought was "Cool. A Music Man amp."

Somebody in the audience passed out at the end of his performance because they had forgotten to breathe while listening.
