Marc, thank you for this and for every video you made, They are really inspiring. I only get to enjoy the virtual simulations of these beautiful synths but hoping to get into some real tweaking someday. :D You are the best at what you do here, and it's really exciting for a synth lover to watch you demos.
I hope you are making some new videos, and lookng forward to seeing them.
This is awesome! I'm a music creating fan... no musical background, no nothing... I make beats with FL studio and a Casio... and i never new this was out there.... This really blows my mind, as lame as that might be... Thanks for sharing this on YouTube.
I'm so intruiged by these machines all of a sudden. I want to get one, but where should I start? What synthesizer would you reccomend me, for a first time absolute beginner?
great knowledge you are kindly sharing ! thank you so much. could you tell me how to patch the velocity output to make it velocity sensitive. i did succeed in making the filter be affected by velocity by patching the velocity into the control of VCF. but not sure for normal velocity? thanks
Yes, stop watching! You do NOT want to get a 2600... having a 2600 and a Minimoog is like having two fantastic children constantly in sibling rivalry. It's unbearable! Thanks for your comments and for watching! ; )
I've finished watching this amazing series, and I'm very impressed with the functions of this wonderful synth and the cool intro music, if you wrote it I must say that you're an amazing musicians, and now I have a question, I have finally got the funds to buy myself a synth, around 4000 USD and I'm kinda looking for an analog synth from the 70's would you recommend a minimoog model D or an ARP 2600, I found a few on e-bay (I have no experience on synths, but a lot on the piano, suggestions? )
Thank you! Yes, the music is by me. I would say that you should seek out recordings which contain the two synths and decide which of the two has the sound you seek. Both are fantastic. The ARP has a great deal more functionality, but the Minimoog has that trademark sound. I might suggest getting the best of both worlds and finding an earlier grey-faced ARP 2600, most of which contain a Moog-ripoff filter!
with me the live playing stuff still works but setup mode fucks up a lot and it won't save files sometimes.... i just want a nord rack now so i can use the micron as a midi controller
Hi, Great video, but, don't you mean the 4012, the 4072 module which came later had a design mistake which reduced the band width of the filter circuit, a simple modification can fix that. Best regards Derek
Yes, because space is the most intense concern of the musician! Lord knows creativity has nothing to do with connecting with a musical instrument and its physical interface! : )
buy reason and sound like shit!,i hate softsynths.after their employment in music i stoped buying cd-s.I will never pay for music made on the software synth.
Sweet, anyway, there was a Blue Meanie on Ebay a couple weeks ago. Acording to the description, it had Moog filters in it, and probably the great oscillators you mentioned.
According to CMS it had better wiring/connections, mainly in the OpAmp department. Apparently they do upgrades for the affected 2600s with the 'substandard' opamps and is only around 300 bucks.
So... modulating the filter at audio frequency, eh? (I had to rewind about a minute to catch what you said because I spaced out the first time)... sort of almost in the same conceptual ballpark as ring modulation.
Wow, cool sounds at the end! Sort of like, uh, farting lasers. :)
Watching this inspired me to load up TimewARP 2600 for the first time in about a year. Not quite the same, but close enough for hours of fun (and very similar bubbly noises!)
wasnt this invented by kraftwerk?

I used to use an ARP 2600 in my Electronic Music class back in 1993 :-D
Back then I was annoyed with anything analog. Now I wish I'd paid a bit more attention!

Haha we totally had this same arp in my sound design class!

Man, thanks for your awesome videos! You set a standard how it should be done.
You were the final straw for me getting a Mini D a couple of months ago :)
So I better stop watching this RIGHT NOW hahaha...The GAS is building up heavily :)

From 9:30 I was making my way towards the Seven Sister cluster.
I remember you as one of the first synthdudes around, great that you've made more videos :)
I recently bought Novation X-Station (which has nice analog modeling sound), but it just doesn't come close to those freaky modulars.
That's why I'm already saving for a Doepfer system (or whichever system will suit my needs).
Jolly day!

It was a Blue Marvin actually, named so after Marvin Cohen the case designer, according to Alan R. Pearlman.
