This is exactly the priciple how the moving coil loudspeaker works, the fields (not smoke) magnetic act against the magnet to produce sounds. In reverse, used as microphone, the reverse happens and sounds act on the diaphragm and move the coil in the magnetic field and variing DC (almost AC) this is then fed into loudspeaker, sound heard. hope I make sense
