Lol, I love how you ran right into the monster. When you hear the growl from the monster you have to hide somewhere; hiding in a closest, crouching behind some boxes, etc. If the monster can't see you then he won't come after you. You need to to investigate the drawers a little more thoroughly, it's very easy to miss something. Leaving no stone unturned seems to be a good rule of thumb for this game.

Ghost you can hide in the dark with no light but you can hide in the closet it works so always open them when you pass them and dont close them when you are chased by a monster close the door behind him then go to the closet close the doors and turn off the lanterns and DONT MOVE!!!! wait till you cant hear him and RUNNNNNN!!!! oh and some of the monsters can track you bye noise. hope this helps you

You have to hide in hopes that the monster doesn't find you and you have to quiet and make sure you don't have your lantern out, also don't look at it because it hates that and senses where you are and kills you. Not to mention decreases your sanity. Good Luck. One last thing it helps if you close doors behind but it depends how you like to play.
