  • Is the flux used, Borax?

  • @idusclothing I think the person doing this uses borax. I use some kinda flux that the label fell off a long time ago so I don't know what it is.

  • 05:35 metal flavor toothpaste lol

  • I'm a junior in high school. I decided to take welding this year and I think its one of the best decisions iv made! I'm not to shabby at it either, my teacher said I have a natural borne talent for it lol. I love welding so much that after high school I want to take it up as a profession!

  • What is this? I could break that weld with a hammer.

  • @ztetnies So I could break them with a judo chop.

  • @freddytk421 Aha ;D nice one.

  • When brazing (recently got started with it in my HS welding class, flux coated rod) I only have one question...is there supposed to be any sparks coming from the torch and filler rod? Or is that a sign of improper technique?

  • i watched the whole thing...i thought it looked like he was just melting the rod on top of cold steel... i love the camera work.it shows me how the puddle goes to the heat. im going to practice byy welding a fake cat for my jeep...

  • what gass is comming out of the green hose?

  • @youser990 oxygen

  • @youser990 Green hose is for oxy and Red hose is for gas.

  • dude clean your tip it shouldnt be making noise like that

  • get some penetration on that sum bitch!

  • why did you put all that flux on the bronze rod instead of dipping it every time? doesn't it melt and make a film of plastic on the brazing?

that welding in the beginning looks very good though. i am jealous. i wish i could make such a beautiful weld!

  • nice beads

  • My teacher ALSO said to get a pool of molten steel going BEFORE you start melting the filler rod into it. This weld looks pretty but it's not structural. I think you're just melting steel onto non-molten steel.

  • @mographzach We never used oxyfuel for code welding. Read the description, this is not how to weld but I was learning the camera. These welds are not good and I didn't do them. I agree they are shallow

  • @mographzach theese welds are cosmetical, not structural, other than that i agree, nice oxy welds tho

  • That a swell job of gas welding. Question? Did you use some sort of flux for the steel welding. Im learning how to do this and don't know where to get any answers.

    Thank you

  • @honeybunchickens you used flux for brazing and most of the time the flux is already put on the rod, its like a white, thick powder coat. if your bazing rod doesnt have flux, you just have to dip your rod in flux

  • @tacokiller101 Thanks i finely got a answer 2 weeks later. I actually did some more research and found out that using isotropic alcohol is best for cleaning the rod and surface area. And just a rod that looks like copper on the outside and look like steel on the inside works best for mild steel gas welding. Of course setting the flame to a neutral flame is the best flame and hottest flame for welding.

  • my welding instructor said that once i have the weld pool i have to turn the torch to a 45 degree angle and then add the filler rod is this true?

  • @mrshroompwr I try to go as straight up and down as i can myself (90 degrees). this is not me doing the welding. I would say it's ok but no more than 45 for sure. you should be able to tell while your welding what works best.

  • Hi, what type of camera are you using (settings) PS nice welding (so that's how its done ) Thanks for video Joe

  • i am taking this course right now and hopefully get a job and of course get paid. nice video. very clear. thank you man.

  • hey freddy - great job on the video!

  • Very nice job...

  • best video I ever seen on welding

  • I love women

  • For gas asshole...

  • do you think oxygen map gas torch kits are good for light welding

  • pretty cool

  • When I go to bed, I put this video on loop because the sound of the torch, and the calm talking make me feel very relaxed and at ease.

  • @taiden loop?

  • Omg when i do this i just create random fireworks xD

  • what # of lens do you recommend for this type of welding?

  • @looloopklop #5 shade is what I use.

  • @freddytk421 Aye #5 !

  • This is very interesting I'm 16 and I'm starting to learn to weld but very nice video!

  • how much is one of those cobra torches dude?

  • Any videos of you doing a fillet joint?

  • @karavshin Yes there are a couple the best one prolly is on the cobra torch one on welding same principal as regular torch. I think there is a little on some others.

  • your procedure in brazing was so wrong, because your flame was to far from the molten pool, and it should be a slight neutral, because the purpose is to melt down your rod into the workpiece. But your gas welding good and you got the right procedure.

if I had a chance to cover by video all of my demonstration I will do it as soon as possible just to let you know.

  • @warlyeduvane This is not me I'm only video recording it. That's not all brass some is copper and brazon and stainless and other stuff and we were just trying to get some cool looking shots like it says in the description. Really where you are brazing if there is a molten puddle than it's too hot for brazing properly. If the base metal is molten the it's not brazing it's bronze welding. These shots are just unused footage not really trying to teach.

  • @freddytk421 hey! do you know what is molten pool? a melted part of you are going to heat, so meaning if the brazing rod was melted and it looks like a water then thats what you call a molten pool. OK?

  • @warlyeduvane The molten pool is the little round bit of liquid metal on the base metal. It's the part the fire is pointed at but not the rod you drip the metal from the rod into the molten pool.

  • @bluesxmann You're welcome, thanks for the nice comment.

  • This is hands down the best video I have ever seen on what a weld puddle looks like. Very well done. Can't thank you enough.

  • @northernmusician You are welcome, thanks for the comment

  • Brazing copper is better with a propane torch, with a turbo tip. Without oxygen.

  • it was always easier for me to make beautiful welds with the oxy-fuel torch than arc or mig,

  • Here is an interesting question ... is metal magnetic in its molten state? I wonder if you can make a "Puddle" move up hill using a magnet on the reverse side of the work piece. can you make a proof of concept vid?

    BTW ... i made it to 4min 51 sec :))

  • No it's not magnetic well before it gets molten. I forgot the word used it's like austinetic or something but the atoms align differently at different temps and thats what causes it be magnetic and non-magnetic. I took a class on that a while back and don't remember too much more than that. I do know that one way to test a blade or hammer if it's the correct temp for annealing is to hold a magnet to it and if it does not stick it's ready so. NO (4:51 thats pretty good I could not watch it all)

  • What is a proof of concept vid?

  • Well, I managed to watch the whole thing. Even think I learned a bit of what to look for when I try it someday.

Thanks for the lesson, even though it wasn't really a lesson!

    *****

  • I put a link on this one to your music video. This one should be more popular in the long run than the one I erased anyway.

  • @freddytk421 Thanks, appreciate it (again). I have a question for you RE: material that can be welded. I got this Kawasaki KLF220 Bayou I'm working on for a friend. I got it running for her perfect but she has a piece of the differential damaged. I am pretty sure it is white metal... can that be welded? I thought it could be aluminum but I doubt it. If white metal can't be welded I will just use some J.B. Weld (I LOVE that stuff). If it can be welded I will send it out.

  • I had to load and unload this myself no ramps, don't want to have to do it again just to find out it can't be welded. Lazy bastard that i am. LoL

  • Have you tried holding a magnet to it? If it's white pot metal you could braze it with that brazon stuff and if it's aluminum you can use that alumiweld stuff. buy hey if JB weld will work why not that stuff its easy as pie.

  • @freddytk421 Hrmmmm maybe I'm not using the right name for it. It is not magnetic, but I don't think it's aluminum. It seams very poris I always thought it was called white metal. It's cast something anyways... LoL

I'll ask her what route she wants to go, who knows, she may want me to change it out all together. I personally think the JB Weld will do fine, up to her how she wants me to fix it.

    thanks for the input

  • Very nice rhythm with the work, very relaxing to watch and nice close ups of the pool. thanks

  • Freddy, you KNOW I watched the whole thing . .a few times :-)

  • cool vid!!nice job on both the weld and the vid!5/5

    james

  • cool 5 stars ^_^

  • Its like im in a trance when I watch this video, cant wait to get my own tanks and start making some art, this might very well be an addiction. Great video!!

  • Great Videos and great camera work - I have never been able to see the details of the weld pool or the micro effects of brazing - Well Done! and Thanks!

  • Im about to start gas welling this wedensday at college, these videos are helping alot

  • 5 stars great camera work , great welding. good job.
