My grandfather on my mothers side fought in europe and was wounded badly on d-day. He returned to the u.s and spent 2 months in a hospital. He returned home and 7 years later at age 35 died of a heart attack. The man survived 2 years of bullets flying at him and explosions all around him and went out at 35 of a heart attack in his bed. @DkFPhoenix The vietnam war is one i have a hard time with. We had all the fire power to end it rather quickly. We fought an enemy on their turf who had over 30 years of combat in that region. We won almost all the battles and caused them to retreat into cambodia where they knew we couldn't cross that border and re-supply. That is where out leaders failed us. We could have wiped them out by finishing them off. We didn't. Then we pulled out due to politics and didn't finish the mission.

My grandfather on my mothers side fought in europe and was wounded badly on d-day. He returned to the u.s and spent 2 months in a hospital. He returned home and 7 years later at age 35 died of a heart attack. The man survived 2 years of bullets flying at him and explosions all around him and went out at 35 of a heart attack in his bed. That's unreal circumstances.

@DkFPhoenix The vietnam war is one i have a hard time with. We had all the fire power to end it rather quickly. We fought an enemy on their turf who had over 30 years of combat in that region. We won almost all the battles and caused them to retreat into cambodia where they knew we couldn't cross that border and re-supply. That is where out leaders failed us. We could have wiped them out by finishing them off. We didn't. Then we pulled out due to politics and didn't finish the mission.

Stalin was a murderer as well and a poor leader. The russians suffered heavy losses in this war so much so, that the russian army spent more time defending it's lines inside russia than to be apart of the d-day invasion and the push into germany that caused hitler to kill himself because he knew he was defeated. The americans fought on 2 war fronts in europe and the pacific. I don't recall the russians whipping the japanese as well...do you? The american military was devastating in this war!

This series the pacific tells the story of a few soldiers but the substance behind all of this is simple. Russians suffered the highest casualties, but because of that the Third Reich was officially closed down. By D-Day, there was no conceivable chance of Hitler holding on to Fortresse Europe, because of the USSR!

Hitler was unable to defeat the Russians at Stalingrad because the Russians fought like dogs, had many men, and had harsh winters. After the failure of Operation Barbarossa and defeat at Stalingrad, Germans lost any chance of conquering the country. It was at this point that Stalin began pushing his armies of Germany back. Eventually, the Russians fought so long and hard, even against Hitler's greatest soldiers and weaponry, that they got to Berlin before the Americans.

Germany surrendered to the USSR before they could to the Americans. After that Russia attempted to invade Japan. USSR attacked positions in China and Korea. The Russians almost made it to Japan to, before Japan surrendered to the United States after two atom bombs.
