Young people nowadays are simply getting stupider and stupider by the second: AIDED AND ABETTED BY COMMERCIAL HOLLYWOOD IDIOCY. That's why the long pauses and fake forced laughter. Humphries towers over all these door mice!
@CT2507 I think Seth just seems bewildered. He probably senses that the guy is some kind of revered figure, but maybe has no idea exactly who he is, so is perhaps unsure how to behave, as is Rove, or the audience....
@ssotimp no i dont think so. u cant be in the actors community and not know Berry Humphrey. Berry Humphrey is pretty much a legend with his Dame Edna show.
i think Seth Green does not want to be dominated by Berry. doesnt want to be the underdog! it is pretty clear by his remark what he thinks of Berry Humphrey, that he steals the show and makes himself the center of attention.
i have seen it before. some people take Berry Humphrey as a personal challenge. get provoked by his style.
Barry Humphries is one of Australia's great geniuses, and this interview shows him as that. Rove is desperately trying to be his match in quick-witted funniness, but fails with every line he attempts. Having Rove interview someone of Barry Humphries' magnitude is like watching a toddler being thrown into the deep end of the pool without a floatie.
@uofjim ....Well he has been on T.V doing this show for 10yrs and at the peak of his career chose to retire. He was also been targeted by American networks to do a late night show over there. He was quite popular in Australia and still was when he retired.
I suppose the problem is that Barry Humphries would be more at home in something aimed at the patient and the intellectual; Charlie Rose or Inside the Actor's Studio or something. Not the quick-fire lowbrow fest of Rove.
Funnily enough Edna seems to fit right in with the Lettermans and the Lenos...
Yes, I could watch him all day too. I don't know this talk show host (I'm in the States), but even worse is the current Dame Edna show in New York, where someone thought it would be a good idea for Dame Edna to share the stage with Michael Feinstein, a kind of piano bar singer, singing the so-called American Songbook. When Edna leaves the stage, it's deadly and I felt veryy cheated. Edna is great in this show ("Is there an Australian Songbook". "Yes, but it's more like a pamplet really.")
Rove is a talentless hack. Barry Humphries is a genius.
It's interesting watching Barry in this interview. The mannerisms of Dame Edna seem to be from Barry's own character, which is not surprising, but since Dame Edna is much more recognisable and iconic than Barry himself, it's like we're watching a male version of Dame Edna, or perhaps a brother.
Damm, i used to like Rove!... ..what a wasted opportunity!..maybe he thinks he is an entertainer?..but really hes just one in a looong line of people whos interviews great people.
@meetmebythestatue I felt that, too. The way the audience (and even the host) kind of stuttered in their reactions to Barry, and gave these half-cautious, half-bewildered responses was just frustrating, because you could feel it slow down the comedic energy that Barry was working up, every time.
as always barry humphries does an amazing hilarious understated appearance and rove has the hide to make him look crazy. what a loser. if it wasnt for humphries appearing as edna on the show in its early days he'd have been axed years ago.
Humphries act is so flawless people couldn't even tell haha. its a shame tho when Rove referred to Jaoquin Phoenix, because it just shows he didn't get the act. you'd think of all the people the host would get it.

Look at Seth Green nodding at the jokes as if they are serious comments - lame attempt at humour or does he not get that they are jokes? even after Barry's joke that people take jokes too seriously! Lol, I can't take Seth Green serious after his little Christian Bail tanty on set, who does he think he is? Batman? More like Boyman......
loooooooooooooooooooool this is funny. but rove sounds like a prick
