Look, normally I hate Bill O'Reilly. He was respectable here however. Bill has proven to me today that he can handle some delicate situations maturely. I'm a liberal, but Bill held an impressive interview. I'm in the process of pursuing my dream to become a NAVY SEAL. It's going to be a long road, but its 90% mental. Marcus Luttrell is my hero.
Bill O'Reilly is one of the idiot media reporters that Luttrell talks about in his book saying that they would blame the SEALs for killing 2 "innocent" goat herders in Afghanistan. All of these politicans and news people need to go fight in Afghanistan for a week along side the SEALs, Green Berets, and PJs and then rethink their gay ROE.
Navy SEALs are patriots, they love what America used to be. The good America. But when a guy goes down in the field it's not for country but for the SEAL next to him.
Bill O'Reilly has good intentions when he says "he died for Country". But that's not really the truth. And Bill or anyone who is never an operator will never understand the idea of what motivates a SEAL or other SOF operator to fight to the death.
I feel a great sense of pride and gratitude over people like Mr. Murphy and all our guys who have in the past, are now, and will in the future carry out these great deeds of heroism and pay such a price for something we all take for granted. This guy is a true hero, and thank God he was able to write this book and honor his fallen comrades. Thanks so much to Mr. Murphy, all who served, and all still serving. Thank you so much. @thesteelersfan043 umm, i guess you have read this book or else you wouldnt have said that, but i have to disagree greatly. just in the fact of who SEALs are, they would never put any emphasis on themselves. note how often luttrell pushed the praise away from himself: his teammates, instructors, the afghanis who helped him... and murphy was his best friend - of course he will consistently mention his bravery. i absolutely love this book. it brought me to tears multiple times.

Actually the SeALs are the very best at what they do. Find'm, free'm or fuck'm up, and forget'm. I've never seen a more proficient and effective unit in my years of service. HM1 Luttrell and his team are true men of valor, honor them.
Actually the NATO nations have a test every 2 years of the top special forces of each country compete against each other in trials. The Army Delta Force have placed 1st nearly every year and have for the last 8 years in a row. SAS following 2nd, SEALS 3rd, German Spec ops 4th, Green Beret 5th, Army Rangers 6th and so on.

Navy SEALs are patriots, they love what America used to be. The good America. But when a guy goes down in the field it's not for country but for the SEAL next to him.
Bill O'Reilly has good intentions when he says "he died for Country". But that's not really the truth. And Bill or anyone who is never an operator will never understand the idea of what motivates a SEAL or other SOF operator to fight to the death.

I feel a great sense of pride and gratitude over people like Mr. Murphy and all our guys who have in the past, are now, and will in the future carry out these great deeds of heroism and pay such a price for something we all take for granted. @thesteelersfan043 umm, i guess you have read this book or else you wouldnt have said that, but i have to disagree greatly. just in the fact of who SEALs are, they would never put any emphasis on themselves. note how often luttrell pushed the praise away from himself: his teammates, instructors, the afghanis who helped him... and murphy was his best friend - of course he will consistently mention his bravery. i absolutely love this book. it brought me to tears multiple times.

Of course @brewton, you should also attend college and take at least 15 credit hours. Talk to your recruiter what classes they accept. 15 credits puts you in the same category as a HS diploma graduate.

you dont need to be paid alot when your in the military, the military pays for your food, housing, and medical care, they also give you special benefits. Not only that, but you need to understand that a hufe amount of money is spent on one soldier in the military already

Luttrell goes in [GREAT DETAIL] about the late night mission on June 2005.
The first part takes you through SEAL training in Coronado, CA.
While the second half takes you through a harrowing battle.
But, the main focus in the book are his men and the struggle they faced till the end.
As you keep reading the book it's hard to put down and you feel as if you were in it yourself.
He does not mention of other operations that he has conducted.

Definitely, no doubt about it, the best book to come out of the GWOT. When you read it for the first time, the severity of the situation he lived thru doesn't sink in until you think about how much just working all night at a reg job sucks, and then think about what he went thru. Like he says, unless you've done the training and been in CQB you'll never understand what happened.

marcus is a yella track star,thats y he didnt get shot because is was to busy training for the 100 yard dash. he did nothing to help murphy while he yelled to him for help and he just watched him die. marcus was giving aid to his buddy when they were both hit by the same rpg... he lived but didnt go back for his buddy because he says it was no way he could have survived, but marcus survived and they were hit by the same rpg......hes a yella bastard.

he was the slowest runner for one, you ignorant bastard, two, he tried to help murphy but whenever he tried he nearly got shot and he was crying because he couldnt help him, and three, axe and him were hit by the same rpg but they were both knocked off the cliff but marcus was unconcious and axe crawled away from where he landed anyway.... even if marcus could walk, he couldnt get to or find axe if he wanted, marcus is a brave hero and you need to read the book over again, if u read it at all...

Actually the NATO nations have a test every 2 years of the top special forces of each country compete against each other in trials. The Army Delta Force have placed 1st nearly every year and have for the last 8 years in a row. SAS following 2nd, SEALS 3rd, German Spec ops 4th, Green Beret 5th, Army Rangers 6th and so on.

Tip my hat off to the S.A.S. (Special Air Service) and the un-sung S.B.S. (Special Boat Service) of the British Royal Marines, but it is understood and undisputed that U.S. Navy SEALs are the best and toughest trained individuals on this here planet.
It has been noted that at times, a Navy SEAL feels more comfortable in deep water then he would on land. Not even the most elite special forces groups around the world can admit that.
