I am pretty sure that the best album I have ever heard is tales from topographic oceans. Regards with possibility of the the joy of sharing the same opinion. So it is definitely a great medley.
Thanks Mike! This is excellent. Great music and I love the way you put this together. I am trying to tackle Mood for a Day. LIke some of the others on this post I am a tab guy but hope some day to tackle The Ancient.
One of the guitar magazines did a transcription of Steve's medley of "Tales" that he performed live...i have it buried in one of the boxes i need to sort through yet...
Such a wonderful rendition of some of the greatest "popular" music ever written. You made me think I was listening to Steve himself. I will listen to this again and again over the coming years. Great memories.
Very nice job, very nice! You'd probably agree that at times it was a little fast, but to criticise you for that would be churlish. I've linked this to my Facebook after having searched for the original work. The album has come to visit me again after a brief time away. What an outstanding piece of work it is. Highly under-rated. Once again, good job and thanks for sharing.
FANTASTIC , well played , but.....a little too fast , you do great justice to the original but us viewers who love the original like it the way it was writtten , just a little slower like Steve intended it - Thanks
Thanks very much for the very nice words. Sorry to say, there is no Tab, or sheet music (that I know of, at least) -- I figured this out by ear, so there's nothing written down I can send you. It's always nice to get comments like yours, because it tells me I'm not the only person in the world that loves this music!
Thank you so much, you can't imagine how many people are still loving music of this time, and you play as well as steve, so it's a real pleasure to listen to you. This music will never die. *****
Just replied to your comments on my "Shine On" video. Again, many thanks -- and though it's very kind of you to say so, I WISH I played anywhere near as well Steve! I've tried to imitate him (learned stuff by ear), as I've tried to get Gilmour's "feel" in my other video. I'll be posting new stuff soon (probably some Genesis/Hackett, and other things). Thanks again!!
excellent work, not expecting to find something so good this cold Sunday gray... but you put me in a good mood with this music, wherever it is you I thank you for sharing your video
Thank you! This really was fun piece to do. I plan to post more videos, as soon as time allows (and when I can get my son to be there to work the camcorder...!) Thanks again.
Thanks to everyone who has posted comments -- I plan to upload more videos soon (have to find a day that combines me having practiced a little, and my son being available to run the camcorder...). Thanks again to everyone for your nice reviews!
the first time I tried mushrooms, I was in a bedroom with my best friend having an awful trip. After listening to the first and second sides of "Tales," I then had the best trip in my life.
To everyone who's posted comments recently, THANK YOU! Really nice to hear that I'm not the only one who remembers "those days". I've now missed seeing Yes twice in a row due to ailments (missed them last time at Red Rocks in Denver due to Anderson's health, and missed "Yes-lite" this time due to Squire's leg...!). Maybe later this year...?? Thanks again for all your nice comments -- much appreciated. - Mike.
Man, I used to love getting stoned and listening to this album, hehe. Was glad to hear part of The Remembering, I think it may be my favorite piece of music. Would have liked to hear the "Don the cap and close your eyes" section though!
Mike, great arrangement of this amazing Yes masterpiece. Question: have you prepared tabs of this arrangement and would you be willing to share those tabs with others. For a nominal fee, of course.
Hi -- and thanks very much for the nice words. No, I have not created a Tab for this; I basically learn - and play - by ear, so this is just in my head. I loosely based the arrangement on something similar that Steve Howe did on his "Not Necessarily Acoustic" CD (if you don't have this album, you must get it -- it's awesome). Thanks again, Mike.
Beautiful rendition of an underrated masterpiece -- underrated even by the band itself! Thanks for appreciating and expressing one of the great musical offerings ever.
WOW! Tales from topographic oceans is a pretty good cd one of my favourite . But this is genius! just some part are too fast. We know you can play fast!
A gem! A deep immersion into the soul of music which has haunted me for decades. Then, a return with an interpretation which adds even more beauty to the beauty of Mr. Howe's creation. Thank you so much. (i could only hope to play this as you have, and I'm sure tabulature is not the way)
Thanks very much for the nice comments!! You're right that this was not Tabbed -- I came up with the arrangement myself (self-taught on guitar). I did base the arrangement on what Maestro Howe does on his "Not Necessarily Acoustic" CD. Thanks again!
If this is the Billy I think it is, THANKS!! And I have already checked out Circa music and various sites -- great job -- I love it. Any collaborative opportunities possible? I'm a lifetime Yesfan (and all things related), and any chance to work together would be, well...!!! Pls. let me know...
Beautiful... absolutely beautiful work. Tales is probably my favorite album of all time, and you did an excellent job of arranging this (and playing it) great work. Wonderful work.
Maybeif you have time could you walk thru it and post that video . I know thats asking alot but i belive there would be a great interst in that .. thanks Again!
I've been listening to this album recently, and I think it's pretty good. Not as good as their other efforts, but there are parts in each song that I just love to death. Too bad it takes so long to get to them. XD
My favourite parts:
-Synth solo near end of "Revealing"
-"Relayer" section of "Remembering"
-The very beginning of "The Ancient"
-The "da da da" part about two minutes or so into "Ritual"
I would like to post this wonderful work on my site. Back in the '70's, I was the only one who listened to T. Oceans among my friends. They were kind enough to listen over some drinks.
