  • my favorite movie!Jurgen is such a great actor!

  • this is my dad's favorite movie

  • Na Männers. Alles klar?

    Jawohl, Herr Kaleu!

  • Damn, Jurgen Prochnow looks intense. Like a sorcerer or something.

  • It was really great to see this. Thank you!

  • This movie is not only a movie, it is the best ww2 movie ever!

  • @lavidaspeligrosa 100%agree wit u!

  • @holicat098 you know wy? because its shows the reality from the point of view of the Germans. America is always overrecting with there Hollywood movies. Das boot is a golden classic.

  • @lavidaspeligrosa Today It's Jewish America 'nd Hellywood!

  • @holicat098 You must be european to say something like that. Its totally the truth you know. God bless

  • @lavidaspeligrosa I am.God bless You too!

  • I first saw this movie in my history class in grade 10. It was amazing. At the end... I had the slight wit to look around at my classmates, and ALL of us were hit by herr Kaleun holding a bollard to watch his command die.

32 teenagers learned to separate the soldier form the politician that day.

And any 20ish man sympathises: "long, comfortable, afternoon fark!"

  • Jurgen Prochnov is so damn sexy!! Those amazing eyes, I'm dying here! :)

  • 'Average age of a U-boat Cmmdr at the end of WWII was 21'. Holy..., that's a massive responsibility for a young man. The bravery of the young men in these boats and ships for that matter was unbelieveable, on both sides.

  • What ....Jürgen Prochnow character is 30 in the movie? HOwever, Prochnow was already 40 when he made this movie.

  • Brilliant movie. My uncle, my mother twin, was torpedoed by U48. I don't hold any animosity against those U-Boat guys as they too suffered a lot.

  • excellent movie, best sub movie ever,im not very fond of watching videos about how movies are made, to me it takes some of the magic away but i did want to see jurgen and wolfang speaking, thank you for posting!!!!

  • great video, does anyone have quotes of Prochnow speaking about the film? I've always wanted to know what he thinks of the film (but more recent than in this video),

  • @MrCrowley45 Look up "Jurgen Prochnow Q&A BIFFF 2008" at google videos... he talks about 'Das Boot' a bit in the beginning of the interview.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • The best movie ever made! I've watched the uncut version 4 times, and that's still not enough for me! And its soundtrack is truly amazing! I think I've listened the main theme hundreds, if not thousands of times.

  • Jurgen Prochnow speaks good English

  • Best Film of all time. Period.

  • Very strong anti-war message!

  • Super Movie!! "The Boat", Das Boot! The film was not only a great action film, but it had a real story to it! A fine mix of the two. Very, very rare for any film. Had it been American and as well made, it would have been a clean sweep at the Oscars!

  • Great Video, finally I can find out about the behind the scenes and how they did some of the stunts, and it's in english as all the others were in German.

  • The new fascists seem to be the majority of the citizens of the US (where I live). Their daily public social interactions with each other indicate no regret about the hundreds of thousands dead in Iraq at the hands of US officials. If I thought that the god of Abraham were real and if I thought that my fellow Americans were getting their moral advice from him, I'd say that that particular god deserves damnation in his own hell.

  • i think the jews should leave the past in the past...and live in the present because if you see us germans today....you dont have to be scared...we are more doing fun now than scarying peoples...and maybe a little bit thinking makes anyone knowing that all that is happend of one man....you know who i mean........and sry for my weak english^^...i was writing this hurrying^^

  • Anti-Semitism is very much a part of the present. There is no living in the past with the resurgance of anit-semitism in France. Germany has done alot in educating Germans about the holocaust. The author of "Fateless", Imre Kertesz who survived the holocaust has said this. His native country Hungary has allowed ignorance to flourish. Slavery and the Holocaust are taught in America. If teaching these subjects stop what's next?

  • truth is, EVERy country, every society can turn into a nightmare ! germany has the holocaust, holland had the slavery, the killings in indonesia, cambodia had pol pot, north korea..and so on and on and on..

  • that's true ...i mean look the ex pres of usa...g. W. bush.....he just send the soldiers into death

  • @nederwiet1 america also had the holocaust, even worse than germanys, but NO one seems to care for their war crimes as long they remind the world how bad and evil germany is/was with all their hollywood ww2 movies.

They love distraction, no one really sees that there is no "what if nazis won the war", since the nazis won the war, just american nazis, not germans

  • @SnowmanPen I am American and I do not lay blame with the soldiers/sailors of Germany they fought for there country and for a mad man, just like today American soldiers are fighting for a war that a mad man George W Bush sought,it is sad I know but please don't lump all Americans with a few corporate Hitlers.

  • @MidwayCastaway Its just the fact that the USA never showed any responsibility for its crimes. They even got the Nobel Peace Prize for that. Thats the wrongest thing ever in history.

They dont even teach the real stuff in school, its just ww1, ww2 and the "usa=the best" usual fascist stuff.

  • Hi my friend, Kevin from Canada here. You are 100% right! The people and thinking back then are long gone now. Its way past the time for everyone to move the f--k on, and get over it! How can anyone hate a 10 year old German or Jew now. The war is over! Six months after the war, Germans and Canadians were getting married and starting new lives! That says it all. Thanks.

  • @48alfaone jop ...even i should live in canada now...my dad should train tankcomander of the canadian army....but my mom had sth against it so we'd stay here....

  • @DKjoca and besides now israel is commiting warcrimes!

  • @nederwiet1

BS! Israel only ever undertakes action to *defend* herself, thus no infringement of international protocols has ever been committed. The only 'crimes' exist in your head!

  • Jürgen Prochnow is very handsome German. Too bad that as a Jew, it's hard to feel sympathy for the Germans in that war. The allies had to crash Germany as fast as possible to save the dying people in the Kazets.

Lehmann-Willenbrock received Oakleaves to the Ritterkreuz (Knight's Cross) on 31 Dec. '41. In May '42 he took command of 9 U-Flotille at Brest. In Dec. '44 he took command of 11 U-Flotille at Narvik (Norway)

The real life U-96 survived the Battle of the Atlantic only to be sunk by Allied bombers at Wilhelmshaven whilst tied up and unmanned.

Although Prochnow's role never gives his name, he's acting the part of Lehmann-Willenbrock.

(edited from book ''Knight's of the Iron Cross'')

  • This movie is based upon the experiences of Lothar-Günther Büchheim, who was a corrspondent in the Kriegsmarine onboard the U-96. The U-96 was skippered by Fregattenkapitän Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock.

Lehmann-Willenbrock carried out 8 war cruises between Apr 1940 and Mar 1942. He was awarded the Ritterkreuz after sinking 16 ships in a period of 3 months.

He became the 8th most successful U-Boot ace achieving a total of 28 ships totalling 205,000 tons.

  • Wunderbar!

  • One of my favorite films. So grateful for this interview, wherever you found it.

  • Very good Interview, thank you.

  • best german movie ever made, definitely. though, as anything, doutable...

  • Best movie ever in my opinion. Blows the Godfather out of the water. (so to speak)

  • the correct name is Wolfgang Petersen, not peterson.

  • Tell me....in which language does the actors actually speak in? The dubbed version matches perfectly with the actors lip movement. I've seen both German version and the English version and I can't tell which language is originally spoken and recorded, and which language is dubbed.

  • It was made both in German and in English as far as I know. So the lip movements do fit, yes.

  • But what was the original language? It wasn't filmed 2 times, was it? I assume that it was filmed in one language then dubbed in the other language. So what is the "original" language that it was filmed in?

  • The original language is German, since all the actors are german, a german production etc. They even speak various regional dialects in the movie. Tis greatly done :)

  • However, wikipedia says this to the dubbing: "All of the main actors speak fluent English as well as German; when the film was dubbed into English, each actor recorded his own part. The German version is actually dubbed as well; the film itself was shot "silent", since in any case the dialogue spoken on-set would have been drowned out by the gyroscopes in the special camera developed for filming."

    Hope that helps

  • Thanks, my Lady.

  • best movie for this times!!! 1981 and this special effects!

  • Fantastic movie and series, very scary and exciting at the same time, no wonder pepol went crazy down in those boats.

  • I'm not German. And yes, I know what a hobo is. I quite frankly have never seen a hobo that handsome; that craggy face, those intense eyes. So what if he looked disheveled? He was still a hunk.

  • Das Boot is one of the best movies of all time. Jurgen Prochnow is quite an underrated actor and oh my God was he handsome and sexy! Thanks for this video.

  • By the end of the film he looke like a hobo, what are you talking about?

  • If he looked like a "hobo", he was the sexiest hobo I ever saw.

  • Well o.k. I can't say any more. Are you German too?

  • I take it that you don't know what a hobo is. A hobo is a homless person, a bun, a person who lives in the streets. But you still thought he was sexy huh?

  • Read up on what it was like to live on a U-Boat.

  • Yeah, I know it was realistic.

  • I loved Jurgen as Capt. great movie great casting. This movie will grip you.
