Well pattycanada, if these guys are not vocalists then their singing is quite good. Nevertheless, to appreciate the real atmosphere of this piece, there is only one recording here on "you tube" worth listening to: world-famous King´s College, Cambridge- period!!
Although the tempo is a bit faster than most directors might prefer it, it works well with the acoustic of the space. The cutoffs and transitions, though, sound to me as if a half a beat or so has been dropped. Strangely enough, although the way this is done is faithful enough to the score, it still sounds like something is missing, be it the fault of the composer or director. This is otherwise a nice performance (though some members of the chorale seem to have rushed the tempo further yet).
Our choir is working on this for a contest piece. I think this is much to fast. We're taking it a bit slower, and at our speed, I think anyway, it's much more magical.
it was really cool working with Jim Papoulis, because my school's (Montcalm's) choir performed a few of his songs this year. We were really excited to know that he was going to be there.
Our choirs did quite a few of his song as well (Medway) and we were suposed to meet him last year and never go to cause of 4 snow days in a row so our music teachers had him come in the morinig before the concert to review the songs with us it was a great experience and his little boy is adorable
not vocalists? could have fooled me. The speed is good considering they're not singing in a cathedral atmosphere where they can afford to slow down and take advantage of the acoustics.
The recording blend is beautiful. The words were very well intoned. Every note from the choir had feeling in it. The sections blended together beautifully. I would rate more than 5 stars if i could.
"sincero" is in English the same as in Latin, "sincere": UBI caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor. Exultemus, et in ipso iucundemur. Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero. WHERE charity and love are, God is there. Christ's love has gathered us into one. Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him Let us fear, and let us love the living God And may we love each other with a sincere heart.
Does anyone have the version with the African part?

this speed is OK, andante sostenuto (66).
to tell the truth I've seen a slower version on Youtube (it was grabbed in a church or cathedral) and I really loved it!

Nicely done. I agree. A bit rushed, which lost the whole sacredness of the song.
