I think you are talking about the coraline algae for saltwater. This maroon looking algae grows in freshwater. I am just comparing it to coraline algae. I usually put 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallon of water which makes the maroon algae grows. I would have to make a correction on the description as It can be confusing. thanks
@pete20109 They call it lace rock that I get from a Local aquarium store. I put them on top of each other and the water hold it together as they absorb water. No need to glue it.
Hi ..i have this same algae in a fresh water aquarium ..i have 2 goldfish and 2 usa yellow bellys in thier ......how and why do i have this purple furry algae in my aquarium ..just thought id mention the terrapins have nibbles on this stuff ..should i consider removing it or is it a good thing its growing in there
Purple Algae growing all over the rock. The brown and green algae are almost non-existence when this beautiful purple looking algae started growing. The cichlid also nibles on this besides the plecos.

It is 75 gallon. I am convincing my wife to upgrade later to 180 gallon as some of the cichlid will get bigger by next year.
