Really a great way to maintain your trans, I would have never thought of a method like this. I like that you also figured out the math behind it as well.
bought my car used.5 speed 2003 ex honda element with 130k miles. previous owner never changed tranny fluid. i heard its bad to change it or flush it. is that true?because after the crud is flushed out, then your trans might start to slip or break.what should i do?
@DtoWnSux1 my wife has a car that she never changed the tranny fluid in either and it was at 162k when we first met. i changed the fluid and filter in it and it actually made it shift better. i say change it and hope for the best. besides, fluid can only lubricate for so long before it fails, then youre screwed anyway.
Simple transmission service (drop the pan and take out the filter) only removes about a third of the old fluid fluid but with this technique you would eventually get remove most of the old transmission fluid out.. I know that you can remove a transmission line from the radiator and let the engine pump out some of it while simultaneously adding new fluid but this is a great alternative. I loved your logic behind this video
Nice vid bro! Hey, I have a high mileage Chrysler 300M Special that I bought at auction so I have no idea if the T-fluid was changed or just topped up. There are no leaks and the fluid is red. Now should I [1] change fluid and filter, [2] flush the tranny then change the fluid and filter, or [3] just leave it and drive easy. Some people say you shouldn't change T-fluid in high mileage vehicles because it can loosen up deposits and cause problems. What's your thgoughts?
@ahawnt i say drop the pan and change the filter. it wont hurt it. top off with new fluid and drive it. next time you change the oil do this cycle in the vid. no worries.
Great idea, wish I'd thought of it. A heads up in return: Advance Auto discount codes are working on AT fluid, I plan on picking some up tomorrow. Search advance auto on slickdeals for specific codes.
If I was to continue sucking out fluid, how much do you think I can get out?
I found this a great Idea and since I never done this before, I thought I should take out more and I will take out as much as I can, but I want to make sure I have enough transmission fluid to put back in.
if you have a hose thats a little bigger than the tranny dip stick tube and cover the bigger diameter hose over the tube that way there will be a total non vaccume lose and you could theortically get more tranny fluid out than just whats in the pan, This way is a good idea that you come up with but its not a total seal
I change my oil every 15k miles, filter half way through doing highways, Mobil 1 5W20 extended protection in a Hyundai. I did an oil analysis and everything came back clean. Do at your own risk but I know my engine is capable of going the extended length, saving me money on oil/filters, and saving the environment.Course if youd drive city/off road like a Liberty you may change sooner.
yes it would. i was going to do it like that at first but worried about it leaking. couldnt really find a drain plug i trusted. another way is to get an after market pan with plug already in it. but this way (video) its leak free, and pretty easy, so i just went with this.
Or you can take the supply line of the trans cooler loose. Connect a rubber hose to the cooler line and put the other end into a bucket, start the vehicle. Run it and add fluid until the fluid coming out of the line is clean. This is the same principle as a trans flusher. It was how Jeep instructed us to flush water out of the nag trans in 05 when the dip stick tubes leaked water into the trans
valves, if you are talking about the brass connectors on top of the mason jar, then yes. i got mine at ACE for 10c each. what ever size you buy , just make sure it fits tight into the clear rubber hose that you also buy from ACE or Home Depot. its like 10c a foot.
How much fluid can you pump out of the Jeep using this method?

What sir is that "Fliter" you are talking about (1:15). :)
medibosanac 6 months ago
@medibosanac the transmission has a filter inside that has to be changed every 30k miles. its under the pan.
