I am amazed time and time again, how well those things fire up. Compared to a Corsair or some other warbirds, that have to crank and crank and crank until at least a few cylinders start to light up...
if you ignore the bad things that happened at wwII you could say its the time with the most beautiful inventions and machines ever, from car to plane, from symbol to uniform
It's a new-build replica airframe--not a original restoration. Currently most missing engine parts are custom made at GREAT expense--especially expensive for rare German types. The two current authentic Fw190 restorations are having a number of engine components remanufactured as new parts.
Two wartime originals are being restored with correct BMW engines. Both are nearly finished and one or both will be flown. Flugwerk chose the AsH engine in these new-build aircraft for both technical and logistical reasons--and because of the lack of original BMWs. Flugwerks' business model was to create an easy-to-own replica aircraft instead of a multi-million dollar original.
Wonderful to see what labour of love is capable of!
Once an o so feared aircraft by many Allied pilots has been restored in its pride to honour those which left their lives above enemy and homeground in the fierce fight for air dominance!
No, this aircraft has no BMW engine as there are too few spare parts for such an engine at this point. It is equiped with an original Chinese licensed Russian engine, the ASh-82FN 14-cylinder twin-row radial engine which was originaly used in WWII fighters as the Lavochkin La5 & Lavochkin La7. So a good represenative of a wartime period engine, but not BMW.
That Comet is a Glider replica built in germany, but i have good news for you: I´ve read about a project here in germany, with the goal of building 3 airworthy 163´s.
1 pure glider, 1 with a jet engine, and the last one with a rocket engine . I literaly dropped from my chair when i read that!
that red plane was actuality grey

Indeed, so much time and money in restoring it and not the original engine for it.
There must be some handy folks who can build the parts needed.
