His mother was actually Myrtle Vail (my grandmother) who was a radio star of 'Myrt and Marge' fame. I think she did well to swap to film and I love to see and remember her. Most of all, I miss my Dad, CB Griffith, who wrote this in 3 days and played the plant voice and the burglar. God I miss you Dad, you were the most wonderful man on Earth.
Seymour's mother is someone that is trying to be comic relief, she is doing a good job at but she is no Estelle Getty. The plant looks like something that iss in essense a mad scientists creation and could be going wrong at anytime. As for the rest of this sequence, it went quick and scenery changing alot and being bare looks like trademark of Roger Corman films. Just an observation since this is the first one I have seen.
A classic in the area of films during the "red scare" age, where any form of villain, alien, monster, or strangeness (such as talking pigs) were merely a metaphor for the "Evil Communist Threat."

"Don't waste your pity on me, Audrey, I'm not worth it."
"Who says you're not?"
"Everybody."
"Yeah, I know."
