But ALS is generally a term reserved for antilag control systems for deceleration and throttle drops and not for launching. Then we have e-boosting (electric motors that spin the turbo or a separate compressor to reduce lag). Take it as you will.

Turboman, you are such a fuckwit. Just because his car is backfiring on rev limit doesnt mean he has an anti lag system. All a ALS does is retard the timing on decel(foot off the accelerator), creates a massively rich mixture and still lets air into the combustion chamber, thus creating more exhaust gases to spin the turbo when your not accelerating. Back firing happens cause of the uber rich mixture going into the exhaust and detonating out the back.

@99STM If you ever get to drive a WRX, even a stock one they are quite tricky to launch quickly without riding the clutch a little. They tend to bog down for a split second before the differentials work out where to send power and then your off. I have a WRX and one way i improved this was by tightening the differentials so it was a true 50:50 split of power. Its like a completely different car now!

Launch control can come in two flavors. They both cut ignition/adjust timing.

Soft Cut = Retarding spark timing to hold you at a certain RPM. Stays constant at that RPM. Used often in NA cars.

Hard Cut/2-Step = Cutting ignition for longer periods of time. Allows fuel to pool and explode through exhaust. Builds boost in turbo cars.

Antilag is similar to a hard cut system, in that it cuts spark to allow fuel to explode in the exhaust.

The key difference is that it activates when you lift your foot off (to shift), allowing the explosions in the exhaust to keep the turbo in boost while off the throttle.
