Very deep movie. Gives you an idea of how the Mara Salvatrucha operates and about the dangers that latinos face trying to cross over the border. The ending is pretty sad. It has a bitter sweet ending.

i just finished watching this movie... this movie is awesome... i heard that the is movie only cost approximately 500,000.00 dollars but it loked like a 10 million production... Willie (Casper) looks like Delonte West of The Boston Celtics, GO CELTICS!!... hahaha... Sayra is a cutie... Martha is so hot!!! Great movie i hope a lot of movies like this will be made..

18 street gang members formed in California not any specific country. "La Mara" originates in El Salvador. There not all from Mexico but some come threw the Mexican border

MzCaliGurl1: correction. Mara Salvatrucha originates in LA, and spread to other parts of the world largely because MS members in the US who were arrested and then deported to their home countries, began to recruit new members to form MS 13 gangs in their home countries.

You are correct, dancebaby808. Began in LA with El Salvadorean immigrants, and deportation to El Salvador and then free movement back fueled their rise to power. The youth of El Salvador had been raised in one of the most violent environments on the planet, fighting from age 12 in the Civil War and they brought a new level of brutality to the gang scene.

Sin Nombre is not only a great film, but it's really piqued my interest in the roots and development of MS 13. I've already checked out the documentary, World's Most Dangerous Gang -- I thought it was really good!

I don't know any good books about MS13 but to look at the roots of the problem, watch the movie Innocent Voces. It is from El Salvador and shows the social upheaval that caused the hardships in the lives of the immigrants and fueled the violence in MS13 later on. Also, it is a gripping film that had me on the edge of my seat.  You can find it on DVD now.
