Beautiful video of a truly classic railroad signal. I remember hearing about the flap that developed when BNSF wanted to remove the wig-wags. Like previous commenters have said, these classic signals are probably history - a shame. But, full crossing gates are safer - which reminds me, are the bicyclists that are seen crossing between cars and over wheels as DUMB as they appear to be?
@tryby12 One of the wigwags was swallowed up in a sink hole that formed a couple months ago. It is supposed to be replaced after street repairs are made.
i like the hamburger joint about 75 feet from this signal..point richmond is a nice place..i have a very old postcard of richmond its a fold out with 14 pics on it post ww2 1947.it has the hotel carquinez, ford mo. plant, richmond union high school, standard oil refinery,shipyards..ect
Those idiots climbing over the train are going to end up like the guy who walked through my train once, he now has no legs and was found by another crew who almost ran him over
@chcknmr Or just install gates with no lights. I know that's been done a few times with crossing here without a gate. A Griswold signal with no gate is just like having an old wigwag crossing IMO.
I lived in Atchison Village when I was a kid. We used to go down to the Point all the time. I remember the wig-wags. And the Plunge...Keller's Beach...watching the Ramblers MC...the brick plant. It's called Brickyard Cove now. Back in the 50's it was all abandoned buildings and piers. We used to play all over that place. Even climbing the hills. Up on top they had the places where BIG guns guarded the bay during WWII. Great video!!!
Oh my god what an asshole biker. I know he had plenty of time but how much of a rush can you be in. I have never heard a crossing bell with a High-low like that.
Is this wig wag still in use? Tresspassing idiots were lucky the train did not move while they were climbing. Rated with 5 stars. Awesome video. Thx for posting.
They're still there but have been disconnected. They installed gates, red lights and bells there that activate when a train comes, but the wigwags will be turned on for special events only
Awesome wig-wag, stupid idiots! Love how the bells aren't modern, old fassion. Do these wig-wags still have those old bells in them? Awesome vid, 5***** for ya!
I have a friend who works right by that wig-wag! He's a real estate agent for Feagley realty --his name is Declan. He found my wife and I a crazy excellent deal on a house near there! Point Richmond rocks.
Yeah, even though I don't think Operation Lifesaver mentions wig-wags anymore. It's now always gates, red lights and bells, which they now have at that crossing anyways.
If that crossing were in a quiet zone, they'd have those Wayside horns. I wonder what it'd be like if they had to install Wayside horns on a railway crossing with Wig-Wags? Definitely not this one, because they now have the gates, red lights and bells.
I heard the Point Richmond wigwags were left in place after they installed newer gates? Still, I doubt any gate would of stopped those fools hopping freight cars.
Yes, they left the Wig-Wags in place, but they are disconnected. They'll only activate them on "ceremonial purposes." But now whenever a train goes through that crossing, only the gates, red lights and bells activate.
Can you re-record this crossing with the new and old signals in place? It would be neat to see the new with the old.

Gotta love a wigwag.

In my opinion, they should have just disabled the bells on the new crossing gates and then left everything else running. That's just me.

texasrupert 2 years ago 3
They are still there but they don't operate except on "special occasions", whatever that means. There are gates there now.

@danosf So the wig wags are taken up?
BBT609 8 months ago
The wig wags still stand in their position but lame crossing signals got put up. Fuck electronic bells.
BBT609 8 months ago
@BBT609 Just be glad that they have SOME kind of crossing signal. Having gates would be much better than NO signal at all
