The Temple will not be completed until every living stone is there. And then what? The next thing will be that which our Masonic friends make so much of, and which we make so much of namely: the glorification of the temple.
This video keeps forcing my return for the same reason Popp's Solveig's song does: Bergonzi's voice & the music perfectly match. What a masterpiece. And Tosca has many, many great interpreters.
¡y voy a morir desesperado! ¡Y jamás he amado tanto la vida!
This video is extraordinary: I actually perceived the despair of Caravadossi before being fusilated, the vileness of Scarpia and the rage of Floria Tosca... The whole moment of this monologue was perfectly depicted, specially with the ghost of death flying around their heads. The spirit of the tragedy of TOSCA!!!!
The stars shined, the earth smelled, the door of the garden squeaked, and a step brushed the sound. She came in, fragrant, and fell into my arms. Oh! Sweet kisses, oh, languid caresses, as I dissolved her beautiful form, trembling. My dream of love is vanished for ever... The time has run out and I die in despair! And I've never loved life so much.
E lucevan le stelle, the earth and breathe out fragrance stridea the door of the garden, and a footstep brushed the sand. She came in, fragrant, and fell into my arms. Oh! sweet kisses and soft caresses, while I with trembling beautiful forms discogliea veils Vanished forever my dream of love ... The time and run away and die in despair! And I've never loved life so much!

SUBLIME!!!!!!
Tosca is the woman and she is the young guy in orange's (Cavaradossi's) lover. They hide a friend who is hiding from the police at the boyfriend's villa & when the chief of police (Scarpia) finds out, C. is tortured until T. tells where the friend is. She does, but when the police get there he's killed himself. T. makes a deal with S. not to kill C. in exchange for sex then kills S. before he rapes her. C. is still killed and T. jumps off a building, running away from the police.
Very true! Giuseppe di Stefano is the greatest in this.Through years years of searching and listenning I couldn't find a performance worth to compare to Pippo's version.
P.S. This aria by Di Stefano stunned me when I first listened it, and IT made me love opera.
