US health system is ranked in the bottom 7 of all industrialized countries: Google it.Rush says nationalized Health care's Nazism. So Australia is Hitlerville for its Medicare system? Rush has demented logic.I've lived in Australia most of my life & it works. My autistic son would 't be the bright well adjusted boy he's today without it.As all people join it's cheaper & you get more than private. You can still go get private luxury extras if you want.Don't fear what you don't know.
"The US is the world's richest nation and the only industrialised democracy that does not provide healthcare coverage to all its citizens." - BBC News, 26 February 2010
Private health insurance available through employer, government or private schemes
US spends some 16.2% of GDP on healthcare, nearly twice average of other OECD countries
US Census Bureau estimates some 46m people do not have health insurance - includes 9.2 million non-citizens and 18 million people who earn over $50,000 a year
Medicaid: federal-state programme for low income groups
Medicare: for people 65 years old and above and some younger disabled people
@MegaDanji .I agree, some Americans can't accept that their healthcare there isn't the best compared to other countires like France, Britain or Australia.
Happens in any country. You have patriots. Patriots easily allow their patriotism to blind them. Luckily though.. many patriots do not allow their patriotism blind them and know where they stand.
really, you traitor!!!!!!!!!!!!!! America has the BEST of EVERYTHING in the world, at least if you listen to the Americans who have access to the mediia and can form public opinion. The healthcare system in the USA is not bad .................... IF you are pretty welll off, for the people who make little or no money, it can be a nightmare.
Single payer is the way to go, but if it is not the American culture, it is ok, however, there must be a wayfor ALL Americans to have access to it CHEAPLY
45% have a gov't provided healthcare.. the other 55% have private insurance. what's the problem? For all of you socialists.. i want to bring home more of my income instead of paying for those persons who refuse to get off their asses and go to school and work. i dont want to pay more taxes.. I pay enough in taxes already. my healthcare is a priority for me and that priority has a premium. And, I have premium healthcare.. not some diluted piece of shit that the gov't would provide.

@j071174 In Australia we have universal health care and it works out cheaper if you pay a tax , than having to a pay a costly insurance premium. Why are you so scared of change?
This bill that is being discussed behind a closed door meeting is about gov't control and taking over decisions that i should have the personal liberty to make on my own. Not only this, the fact is that the cost of the proposal will not be cheaper than what it already costs.
I am not afraid of 'change' generally speaking. but, am afraid of the 'change' this bill is proposing.
Americans live in a fear state. They fear everything.. even their neighbor. What is the point to call it the country of freedom when you are in doubt or feel insecure when you plan to go out at night... Miserable, pitty. Gee, look what is happening in most of other developed countries.... learn and don't keep shouting like parrots "we are the best", "we are the best". You are the best for you, not for the rest of the world.
Exactly dude.... it's all greed from the private health insurance companies paying off our politicians here in the USA.... There in bed with the big dollars and in the end it's a giant murder machine.... totally disgusting and I'm ashamed of my own country.... BUT I know it's the few affecting so many.... It's sad really.... pathetically sad.
According to Bill Moyers the health insurance companies, drug companies and Wall Street lobbied certain politicians to keep healthcare as it is. This is about money.
Actually, it's about control Right now, I make my healthcare decisions. With a single payer system the gov't would make those decisions. This is not fear.. this is someone else taking control of your medical decisions. Why would I want someone else making these decisions?
@j071174: it's about control of who makes the decisions you say... How well does this factor in when you're dealing with your private healthcare insurance provider? I take it you would never get denied treatment because of pre-existing conditions, new experemental treatment procedures or anything else a insurance provider would likely concider too costly to beworth while. You must be the only one with a compassinate insurance provider instead of a profit driven one then, congrats!
OI NOW LISTEN what is a more fair system of equality where everyone pays the same. is it in amount..... 1000 dollars from everyone a year. or a percentage everyone pays 1 percent
i think it should be percentage that way the poor dont suffer but as the unwealthy tend be black (lets face it uve got more words for a shit hole then i do for sex) and because of that the rich white "board members" couldnt care less the uk system is fair
also right the NHS is fucking brilliant the uk people moan that its shit but lets be honest we'd moan even if we won the fucking lottery. my gran not more than 2 weeks ago passed away and she was in a hospital for 2 months a hospice for about a fortnight and the hospitals were really good she filled in no paper work nothing they even fitted her home with a hospital bed as well some extra shit around the house and it didnt cost our family a fucking penny. and we didnt need to sell her house
The U.S. health system spends a higher portion of its gross domestic product than any other country but ranks 37 out of 191 countries according to its performance, the report finds.
Daniel Hannan is probably one of the more right wing politicians in the UK to the extent that the Tory party leader David Cameron has distanced himself very widely from him turning Mr Hannan into a political pariah. It is also worth remembering that he is a millionaire who does not need the NHS and would be quite happy to see the back of it so he could have slightly lower taxes and make more money.
Now my dad is having a brain tumor removed from his brain, all free of cost. A little socialism isn't a bad thing. Turn off Glen Beck and stop fearing a little change.
I love it when Americans who fear the Canadian health care system. My dad who is 73 years old just had a triple bypass. He was diagnosed and went under the knife just five days after going to the hospital. It didn't cost us a dime. This idea that there is a huge waiting list is blown so out of proportion.
It is kind of amazing some people think health costs are like buying a car or any other commercial proposition (eg: all the insurance co-sponsored posts on Youtube, by varying "people"). You can plan to buy a car or a house: it's your own responsibility and your money allocation--but you can't plan a medical affliction. Not the same. I simply note one anti-health plan person on Ytube had her two fave videos as a) a revolver shooting into a tank, and b) a clip of Milton F'man on "Greed". True!!
hi guys iam from the uk we have free health service called the nhs it is one of the best in the world tell me my why the people of he usa adopt this format improve the helth service yo have one of the worse in the first world countries
OH DEAR! you sewed your own poison, he is one MEP,and he is the laughing stock of Britain. it bewilders me how people even have an argument on this, then i realize that american news is made up of bias, lies and opinion. seriously dude, finding one mep who doesnt like the NHS is not an achievement, when the entire rest of the population basks in its glory. yes some people complain they have to sit down and wait for a few minutes before being seen, but when asked whether they would like to pay?
i have been working for the nhs for 7 years you are absolutely right where would we be without it i am also proud that was set up by a welsh man like myself
Britain spends 10% of it gdp on health America 17% .even if the NHS is burden but its is obvious the American system is more so .its true in these hard times the NHS is helping bankrupt us along with the police the fire service the military or education system ECT ECT, but the NHS is not the cause of our trouble is it ?
the us is the most paranoid entinty on earth, always living in the past likein the 1800's. you cant shake of your frontier/anarchist attitude. If you installed free water fountains around amerikkka ,you see it as a communist plot.! very paranoid
give us a break. you're not so screwed as we are because you have healthcare. why don't put yourself in my shoes for a minute instead of shooting down an idea that has never even started.
all you can do is label and look at others as the problem. i know how think. you think you have nothing to do with this problem and it can only cause you problems. it affects us more than you!
you can label me a liberal but for what? because i need some type of healthcare net?
Daschle's a douche. I currently live in Houston (the medical capital of the world) where thousands of people come from around the world for medical care and schooling. Tom Daschle's Health Care Plan puts a dollar amount on human life, i.e. what the government will pay to keep you alive.
Wow sounds formulaic! People reviewed as numbers and not people, that is just what we need --our health decided by a formula, an impersonal, cold formula. We can completely remove the human factor from health care! We now coldly abort unborn babies, so will we now be able to abort expensive old people or people not expected to live? All in the name of saving money.
Single Payer does NOT put health care decisions into the hands of government!!! It transfers health care management away from the insurance industry it puts it into the hands of medical professionals. Government managed financing like medicare operate at a fraction of the overhead of insurance companies. 1/3 of our health care dollars now go to private insurance companies who only generate massive red tape and huge profits for their stockholders.
obama is a complete failure so far.. obama even said today that he "messed up" damn that makes 3 people that has withdrawaled from his cabinent. I do not want a president that is going be a complete fuck up just like Bush and another thing, obama is showing how naive and unqualified he is... but thankful hillary is the sec of state
If more government intervention creates better quality and for lower cost why has health care declined in the past decade while government intervention has increased?
If he cared so much about healthcare he would advocate getting government out of the picture, but no just the regular cant and bollocks about more government bureaucracies and state management of what is a purely private matter. Plus ça change plus c'est le même chose.
I wonder if Blobama is going to hire anybody who is NOT a xeroxed Clinton retread DC lobbyist slut that has paid his taxes while trying to hike mine again?
And when Daschle refers to the fact that 100,000 die due to medical mistakes, I'm not so sure we can really lower that number. We have some of the best medical professionals on the planet in our hospitals and universities. They're doing the best they can, and sometimes, yes, people will make mistakes. It's unfortunate, but I don't know how much or what kind of regulations are really gonna be able to significantly lower that number, esp. by half.
What UHC proponents esp. don't realize i sthat no system is perfect. We're gonna have to deal with the fact that there will always be some people who aren't covered for a short period of time. And if you want everyone covered, then you're gonna nationalize the system and likely screw up our treatment system.
I say let insurers come up with competitive plans on what they're gonna cover and not cover. Government should not force them, because when it starts, government just can't stop its definition of what is "necessary" to be covered. Is cosmetic surgery something necessary for insurance to cover? I certainly don't think so. Is abortion something we want covered by insurance? Not me. Contraception? ...Maybe.
I would hope Daschle's plans included at least one market component in them.
Increasing access is great, but there's not a lot of low-cost ways to do it, at least not with government regulation. The funny thing is that Democrats never saw a regulation, esp. on healthcare, they didn't like. Their "plan" is just increasing programs and spending and piling on regulations that just increase cost. They don't seem to realize they're PART of the problem!! Forcing insurers to cover every treatment under the sun reduces market competition and makes them charge high premiums.
Great choice!!!! a member of the good ol boys club that represents "change"... what ever that really means and only suckers believe.
Well, at least Obama has a good idea as to how to collect unpaid taxes!!!! the IRS should send him a list of debtors, offer them a job, and collect billions...
Is BlowBama going to hire any non-DC insiders without massive lobbyist connections for the most conflict of interest possible that has ever payed their taxes?....
since when does free equate to quality. if a country decides to engineer a car and then provide that car free of charge to every one of its citizens, it would probably be a pretty shitty car. just like canadas health care, shitty. yep we pay for health care here, youre goddamn right. and its way fuckin better than yours. but you already knew that, because you wouldnt even know how to pop a zit let alone conduct a heart transplant without US health care. everything you know we taught you beeotch
who gives fuck about your health, why dont you just die because your nothing but a fucking dumb American piece of shit & should be flushed down the sewer anyway, every body in the world knows that any American is as worthless as a peice of dog shit stuck on my boot, fuck all ya festering sore on the worlds arsehole ,all you teach is that imbreding produces fucktards like you.
im thinking you have never taken a walk anywhere in america because that is very far from the truth, although there are both good and bad people spread out all over the planet
znotty is suffering from acute small nation syndrome. he can't even spell much less make a bit of sense. probably some unemployed Brit living off the nanny state. Pathetic twit.
I've been to Australia many times on business. Don't even start to compare that country to the USA. It's like comparing a small county fair to Disneyworld. I do like the people except for losers like you who don't know when to shut the fuck up. I seriously doubt you've ever traveled. Grow up kid and get lost.
youv`e been fucking nowhere & your right about Disneyworld underpaid, overpriced & look behind the facade & its a cardboard cut out ,America in a nutshell.bullshit.
AMERICANS are FUCKHEADs.....cept for my wife,sister & mother."hey Mom i`m trolling again"
Socialized health care, increase our income taxes from now 40% to 60% like in Canda. We work hard to provide health care to non working individuals and illegal aliens.
The next Socialist action which is presently being considered and tried in Oregon is getting additional taxes aside from buying gas, is to tax us for every mile we travel. They want to incorporate the GPS to communicate with the gas pump station to provide data on how many miles you travelled and charge you additional taxes. Socialism and tyranny is starting to be flourishing in American and Oregonians are stupid enough not to complain.
Daschle will be confirmed because he is a Socialist, and he is very important for Obama to implement FORCED Socialist Health CARE. And Americans are being duped into this low quality health care/rationed health care. Stupid Obama supporters are really dumb.,
Another Socialist nominated by Obama. The shameful thing is that this guy pretended that the tax was complicated when he was reminded and received a check for refunds. It is a disgrace that Daschle will be comfirmed after he knowingly evaded taxes. Al Capone was imprisoned for not paying taxes. But for liberals/socialists, it is just okay as long as you pay it when you get caught. Double standard MOBSTER FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. While they forced us to pay 40% of our income taxes.
then you can comeback and tell us how great your "free health care" is. by the way its not free, and its not very fuckin good either. the sales tax alone is 14% let alone federal income tax.
The U.S. of A. will NEVER get this mess cleaned up until both Repubs and Dems alike realize one thing:
**** We can't have, ****
**** cheap health care ****
**** without tort reform ****
There are tons of non-biased studies out there that point this out, they're just not as entertaining as the political drama this nation seems to thrive on.
As long as this is allowed to remain political, average Americans are not going to get jack squat.
"SICKO" might have actually inspired some real change if it would have acknowledged this (tort reform wasn't mentioned at all)....but again, it comes down to politics vs. reality, and reality is sometimes uncomfortable. As long as the Michael Moores and Rush Limbaughs keep ordinary 'murcans fighting about nonsense, Washington doesn't have to do a damn thing.
Say...could THAT be why government is inefficient?
i've never heard anyone say we have the best health care in the world, maybe we do if you are a rock star or movie star or a politician, the rest of us get mcdonalds health care
you dont get out much do ya daddio. have you ever lived or even traveled outside of this country. I'll bet dollars to donuts the answer is no, because youre talking out of your ass. Ive lived in four different countries and I can tell you from personal experience that in almost all cases our shittiest clinics are better than their best "hospitals". you dont know what youre talking about.
oh and by the way daddio great health care is not a constitutional right. if you currently have "mcdonalds health care" go register at your local community college and begin the process of "bettering" yourself so that you can get a better job/health care. you truly do get what you pay for. or move your dumb ass to canada, im sure they would be happy to have you.
so why dont you enlighten me. name 1 country with better, more advanced, and more accessible health care in this entire god forsaken world. and by accessible i dont mean free, i mean accessible. because the fact is you can walk into any ER in this country and they will not deny you healthcare.
and by the way if youre saying that consensus between dems and repubs = our health care system sucks, then im gonna have to call bullshit on that argument too. because neither dems or repubs could find their own asses with both hands and a map. why dont you stay on point and tell me which country has better health care than we do, and why.
i would rather be sick in finland or sweden if i had to choose
i don't know why you are being so nasty about my personal experience and opinions
i never said america's health care system sucks, its just that i've seen the shortcomings first hand, i've listened to politicians say they are going to fix it since clinton and i don't expect anything to be done about it in my lifetime
we don't have the best health care system in the world, i don't know how anyone could argue that
finland or sweden. please specify why you chose those two countries. how EXACTLY is their health care system better than ours, more advanced than ours.
both my children were born in Australian Hospitals without paying one cent, years later my son had a cut stiched in ER free of anycharge whatsoever,my grandfather had his knee replaced free of charge, yeah our health system crap`s on yours
so you recieved free health care are your argument is that because its free, its somehow better. that the stupidest fuckin argument ive ever heard. tell you what next time you have a kid come to my house and i'll give you a dollar to let me deliver, i guess that would be the best health care in the world by your definition because i paid you right. youre a fuckin idiot. nobody flies to austrailia to have major medical procedures done you fuckin moron. now why do you think that is.
when you call your health care "mcdonalds health care" i dont think the implication is that you think it is great health care, i think instead you imply that it "sucks". so you did in essence say that your health care sucks. the title of this video is "US healthcare best in world a myth" i simply want you to explain to me who has better healthcare than the US and why. im not saying there arent "shortcomings" but what I AM saying is that is indeed the best healthcare in the world.
sure, in sweden there is no gatekeeper function like HMOs in the US and you can go directly to any specialist that you want to see
i spent years trying to get a second operation to fix the first one, only to be denied until my condition deteriorated to the point that they had no choice but to operate again
at that point, i had no choice but to have the operation done by someone relatively inexperienced
in sweden i realize it also take time, but i know it would not take this many years
are you suggesting that the specialists in sweden are better than the specialists that you can find here in the US. because there is no "gatekeeper" in sweden that their health care is then better by default. thats ridiculous. did you actually have a procedure done by a swedish specialist, or are you saying that because you can see a specialist in sweden at your leisure their health care is better than ours. you dont make any sense. explain to me how the health care in sweden is better.
are there bad doctors in the US. the answer is absolutely. my point is that there are more good/great doctors and hospitals here in the US then in any other country bar none. I live 35 miles from Stanford University where most of the technological advances in health care are concieved. Name me an institution anywhere in the world that has better doctors than Stanford. The fact is there arent any. they have learned it ALL from us period, that is undisputed.
daddio you still havent addressed my question. somehow waiting a long time in the ER means that you dont receive good health care. you keep arguing logistics but you cant tell me how another countries health care is better other than the fact that you dont have to wait as long for it. that an issue with time not quality. it could also be the fact the ER is packed full of illegal immagrants who are getting the best health care in the world free of charge...hmmmmm... have you thought about that.
i know we have the best doctors in the world, the best medical research and that we export this
but, i nearly lost my left eye to the first doctor who operated and all he could think about was whether i was going to sue him
the second doctor finally did the followup operation but was more concerned with the HMO renewing his contract than me, he should have referred me to someone with more experience
the doctor i want for the third operation is here, but i'll never have the money
long waits in the ER are a measure of quality, they impact my level of pain and the length of time it takes to recover
the delays and mistakes made in the OR made my condition worse without any doubt
here in southern CA, you sign in and wait for hours, then stand in the hallway and wait for the doctor to discuss your condition in front of everyone else in the hallway, after the shots they turn a blind eye so you can drive yourself home because no one would wait with you to take you home
sounds like you would be much happier living elsewhere then. so when and where will you be moving to daddio. our health care system is not free. and i hope that it will never be free. free health care = mediocre health care. the reason that so many innovations in the field of medicine come from the US is because the people who make the innovations know that they will be well compensated for those innovations. you take compensation out of the equation and we as well as the rest will suffer.
i can't move so i'm stuck with whatever our health care system provides, and i'll pay for that just like i've paid for my health care expenses all these years
and i don't expect anything to change, i just wish politicians would quit talking about how they are going to overhaul the system
and there is no reason to call me ignorant or get nasty with me just because i've had a different life experience than you which has given me a different perspective and set of opinions
The politicians don't understand Basic Economics. Read Thomas Sowell's Basic Economics for the role of prices within a market. Prices have nothing to do with money. Eliminate money and the prices are still there.
They say "lower costs." The cost isn't lower but the price is higher. Basic Economics, the government cannot change prices without changing the cost. The government cannot change cost without making it more efficient. The government has always been, and always will be inefficient.
All 350,000,000 Americans being treated will always be a better system than one that leaves out 47,000,000.
But don't ask a Libertarian or a Conservative... False Dichotomies are their weapon of choice, and they think of it as sound reasoning.
My impression of a Liber./Cons.: National Health care is SOOOOCIALISM! Therefore it should be a Laissez Faire free for all... because greed always finds the right price, my gut says so! Praise Jebus for Capitalism!
How is the US government responsible for the very high cost of health care in the US?
Why is the cost of health care so much lower, and easily comparable in quality, in France and Canada, despite the greater involvement of the government?
I am a dual citizen of France and Canada, and their healthcare systems are by far not perfect. I live in our nations capital (Ottawa) and we have one MRI for the entire city. In France, because everything is free (even perscriptions) and it is not sustainable even with very high tax rates. None of these are perfect systems because in all cases third parties pay, either the government or in the case of the US the employer. That is what needs to change. Neither of these models work well.
The cost isn't lower but the price is higher. Basic Economics, the government cannot change prices without changing the cost. The government cannot change cost without making it more efficient. The government has always been, and always will be inefficient.
First off, I find it funny that a post which merely asks important, basic questions would get thumbs down.
But anyway...
This post makes no sense as written. "The cost isn't lower but the price is higher" - what does this mean? Costs to whom is lower? To patients? The price is higher - again, to whom? If you mean the price of treatment/drugs, the answer is no. Those prices are lower in other countries, not just to patients, but to the government as well.
I live in Canada, and while the system is not perfect, I know that when the inevitable, catastrophic medical condition eventually hits me or someone I love...I know that we will get quality care, and will not go broke [or be denied treatment] in the process.
Women in USA are 70% more likely to die during childbirth than Europeans, (NYT Jan 12, 2005)
USA is only medical school that does not learn by the "problem solving" basis - Rather their students are forced the rote memorization of useless factoids!

@j071174 In Australia we have universal health care and it works out cheaper if you pay a tax , than having to a pay a costly insurance premium. Why are you so scared of change?
seesaw148 2 years ago
This bill that is being discussed behind a closed door meeting is about gov't control and taking over decisions that i should have the personal liberty to make on my own. Not only this, the fact is that the cost of the proposal will not be cheaper than what it already costs.
I am not afraid of 'change' generally speaking. but, am afraid of the 'change' this bill is proposing.
j071174 2 years ago
Americans live in a fear state. They fear everything.. even their neighbor. What is the point to call it the country of freedom when you are in doubt or feel insecure when you plan to go out at night... Miserable, pitty. Gee, look what is happening in most of other developed countries.... learn and don't keep shouting like parrots "we are the best", "we are the best". You are the best for you, not for the rest of the world.

It's sad really.... pathetically sad.

According to Bill Moyers the health insurance companies, drug companies and Wall Street lobbied certain politicians to keep healthcare as it is. This is about money.
Makiba08 2 years ago
Actually, it's about control Right now, I make my healthcare decisions. With a single payer system the gov't would make those decisions. This is not fear.. this is someone else taking control of your medical decisions. Why would I want someone else making these decisions?
j071174 2 years ago
Actually, it's about control of who makes the decisions. I dont want some gov't agency making these decisions for me and my family.
j071174 2 years ago
@j071174: it's about control of who makes the decisions you say... How well does this factor in when you're dealing with your private healthcare insurance provider? I take it you would never get denied treatment because of pre-existing conditions, new experemental treatment procedures or anything else a insurance provider would likely concider too costly to beworth while. You must be the only one with a compassinate insurance provider instead of a profit driven one then, congrats!

i think it should be percentage that way the poor dont suffer but as the unwealthy tend be black (lets face it uve got more words for a shit hole then i do for sex) and because of that the rich white "board members" couldnt care less the uk system is fair

True!!

Daschle's a douche. I currently live in Houston (the medical capital of the world) where thousands of people come from around the world for medical care and schooling. Tom Daschle's Health Care Plan puts a dollar amount on human life, i.e. what the government will pay to keep you alive.
TheKaijuSciFiGuy 3 years ago
Man, my hair looks terrible in this video.
ThomasDaschle 3 years ago
Wow sounds formulaic! People reviewed as numbers and not people, that is just what we need --our health decided by a formula, an impersonal, cold formula. We can completely remove the human factor from health care! We now coldly abort unborn babies, so will we now be able to abort expensive old people or people not expected to live? All in the name of saving money.
Momokitty1992 3 years ago
Single Payer does NOT put health care decisions into the hands of government!!! It transfers health care management away from the insurance industry it puts it into the hands of medical professionals. Government managed financing like medicare operate at a fraction of the overhead of insurance companies. 1/3 of our health care dollars now go to private insurance companies who only generate massive red tape and huge profits for their stockholders.

FreedomsPatriot 3 years ago
And when Daschle refers to the fact that 100,000 die due to medical mistakes, I'm not so sure we can really lower that number. We have some of the best medical professionals on the planet in our hospitals and universities. They're doing the best they can, and sometimes, yes, people will make mistakes. It's unfortunate, but I don't know how much or what kind of regulations are really gonna be able to significantly lower that number, esp. by half.
whoo689 3 years ago
What UHC proponents esp. don't realize i sthat no system is perfect. We're gonna have to deal with the fact that there will always be some people who aren't covered for a short period of time. And if you want everyone covered, then you're gonna nationalize the system and likely screw up our treatment system.
whoo689 3 years ago
Thank God Obama won't have this guy ruining his cabinet!
MotownMoleman 3 years ago
I say let insurers come up with competitive plans on what they're gonna cover and not cover. Government should not force them, because when it starts, government just can't stop its definition of what is "necessary" to be covered. Is cosmetic surgery something necessary for insurance to cover? I certainly don't think so. Is abortion something we want covered by insurance? Not me. Contraception? ...Maybe.
I would hope Daschle's plans included at least one market component in them.
whoo689 3 years ago
Increasing access is great, but there's not a lot of low-cost ways to do it, at least not with government regulation. The funny thing is that Democrats never saw a regulation, esp. on healthcare, they didn't like. Their "plan" is just increasing programs and spending and piling on regulations that just increase cost. They don't seem to realize they're PART of the problem!! Forcing insurers to cover every treatment under the sun reduces market competition and makes them charge high premiums.
whoo689 3 years ago
HMOs were never natural to the market. Gov't created them largely in the early 1970s. It's time to abolish them once and for all.

The U.S. of A. will NEVER get this mess cleaned up until both Repubs and Dems alike realize one thing:
**** We can't have, ****
**** cheap health care ****
**** without tort reform ****
There are tons of non-biased studies out there that point this out, they're just not as entertaining as the political drama this nation seems to thrive on.
As long as this is allowed to remain political, average Americans are not going to get jack squat.
Zippo1969 3 years ago
added thought:
"SICKO" might have actually inspired some real change if it would have acknowledged this (tort reform wasn't mentioned at all)....but again, it comes down to politics vs. reality, and reality is sometimes uncomfortable. As long as the Michael Moores and Rush Limbaughs keep ordinary 'murcans fighting about nonsense, Washington doesn't have to do a damn thing.
Say...could THAT be why government is inefficient?
Because we LET it be...? hmmm

you dont get out much do ya daddio. have you ever lived or even traveled outside of this country. I'll bet dollars to donuts the answer is no, because youre talking out of your ass. oh and by the way daddio great health care is not a constitutional right. if you currently have "mcdonalds health care" go register at your local community college and begin the process of "bettering" yourself so that you can get a better job/health care. you truly do get what you pay for. or move your dumb ass to canada, im sure they would be happy to have you.
elnegroid 3 years ago
he said "best in the world" which is what i disagree with
obviously we have better health care than some countries
i am a white collar professional, college degree and have paid health bills for health care that was subpar
and i've been in a lot of different countries where i would rather be sick than the united states
so there is no reason to post nasty comments about my opinions
daddiosgarage 3 years ago
so why dont you enlighten me. name 1 country with better, more advanced, and more accessible health care in this entire god forsaken world. and by accessible i dont mean free, i mean accessible. because the fact is you can walk into any ER in this country and they will not deny you healthcare.

and by the way if youre saying that consensus between dems and repubs = our health care system sucks, then im gonna have to call bullshit on that argument too. because neither dems or repubs could find their own asses with both hands and a map. why dont you stay on point and tell me which country has better health care than we do, and why.

we don't have the best health care system in the world, i don't know how anyone could argue that

finland or sweden. please specify why you chose those two countries. how EXACTLY is their health care system better than ours, more advanced than ours.

so you recieved free health care are your argument is that because its free, its somehow better. that the stupidest fuckin argument ive ever heard. tell you what next time you have a kid come to my house and i'll give you a dollar to let me deliver, i guess that would be the best health care in the world by your definition because i paid you right. youre a fuckin idiot. nobody flies to austrailia to have major medical procedures done you fuckin moron. now why do you think that is.
elnegroid 3 years ago
when you call your health care "mcdonalds health care" i dont think the implication is that you think it is great health care, i think instead you imply that it "sucks". so you did in essence say that your health care sucks. the title of this video is "US healthcare best in world a myth" i simply want you to explain to me who has better healthcare than the US and why. im not saying there arent "shortcomings" but what I AM saying is that is indeed the best healthcare in the world.
elnegroid 3 years ago
sure, in sweden there is no gatekeeper function like HMOs in the US and you can go directly to any specialist that you want to see
i spent years trying to get a second operation to fix the first one, only to be denied until my condition deteriorated to the point that they had no choice but to operate again
at that point, i had no choice but to have the operation done by someone relatively inexperienced
in sweden i realize it also take time, but i know it would not take this many years
daddiosgarage 3 years ago
are you suggesting that the specialists in sweden are better than the specialists that you can find here in the US. because there is no "gatekeeper" in sweden that their health care is then better by default. thats ridiculous. did you actually have a procedure done by a swedish specialist, or are you saying that because you can see a specialist in sweden at your leisure their health care is better than ours. you dont make any sense. explain to me how the health care in sweden is better.
elnegroid 3 years ago
are there bad doctors in the US. the answer is absolutely. my point is that there are more good/great doctors and hospitals here in the US then in any other country bar none. I live 35 miles from Stanford University where most of the technological advances in health care are concieved. Name me an institution anywhere in the world that has better doctors than Stanford. The fact is there arent any. they have learned it ALL from us period, that is undisputed.
elnegroid 3 years ago
on the gatekeeper function and specialist referrals, it takes much longer to get on the waiting list for an operation in the US in my experience
as for the ER, one of our problems in the US is that anyone and everyone goes to the ER for everything, especially here in southern CA
as a result, you need to plan on spending the entire day at the ER for what takes about 15 minutes
i waited from 9am to 9pm the last time i went to the ER for a shot, then i got the shot and was home by 10pm
daddiosgarage 3 years ago
daddio you still havent addressed my question. somehow waiting a long time in the ER means that you dont receive good health care. you keep arguing logistics but you cant tell me how another countries health care is better other than the fact that you dont have to wait as long for it. that an issue with time not quality. it could also be the fact the ER is packed full of illegal immagrants who are getting the best health care in the world free of charge...hmmmmm... have you thought about that.
elnegroid 3 years ago
i know we have the best doctors in the world, the best medical research and that we export this
but, i nearly lost my left eye to the first doctor who operated and all he could think about was whether i was going to sue him
the second doctor finally did the followup operation but was more concerned with the HMO renewing his contract than me, he should have referred me to someone with more experience
the doctor i want for the third operation is here, but i'll never have the money
daddiosgarage 3 years ago
long waits in the ER are a measure of quality, they impact my level of pain and the length of time it takes to recover
the delays and mistakes made in the OR made my condition worse without any doubt
here in southern CA, you sign in and wait for hours, then stand in the hallway and wait for the doctor to discuss your condition in front of everyone else in the hallway, after the shots they turn a blind eye so you can drive yourself home because no one would wait with you to take you home
daddiosgarage 3 years ago
by the way, if i haven't made myself clear:
having the ER clogged with illegal immigrants, and people without health insurance who have a cold or a cough is part of the problem
i even met one guy who was there for his hormone shots for prostate cancer because he couldn't afford to go through normal channels to have it done
this is a part of our health care system which is more important to me than having the best doctors in the world
fyi, my 2nd doctor is now doing face lifts
daddiosgarage 3 years ago
sounds like you would be much happier living elsewhere then. so when and where will you be moving to daddio. our health care system is not free. and i hope that it will never be free. free health care = mediocre health care. the reason that so many innovations in the field of medicine come from the US is because the people who make the innovations know that they will be well compensated for those innovations. you take compensation out of the equation and we as well as the rest will suffer.
elnegroid 3 years ago
i can't move so i'm stuck with whatever our health care system provides, and i'll pay for that just like i've paid for my health care expenses all these years
and i don't expect anything to change, i just wish politicians would quit talking about how they are going to overhaul the system
and there is no reason to call me ignorant or get nasty with me just because i've had a different life experience than you which has given me a different perspective and set of opinions
daddiosgarage 3 years ago
The politicians don't understand Basic Economics. Read Thomas Sowell's Basic Economics for the role of prices within a market. Prices have nothing to do with money. Eliminate money and the prices are still there.
They say "lower costs." The cost isn't lower but the price is higher. Basic Economics, the government cannot change prices without changing the cost. The government cannot change cost without making it more efficient. The government has always been, and always will be inefficient.

Gimme a Break!
Medicine in America is ranked 54th!
Women in USA are 70% more likely to die during childbirth than Europeans, (NYT Jan 12, 2005)
USA is only medical school that does not learn by the "problem solving" basis - Rather their students are forced the rote memorization of useless factoids!
