The women have Manson tying up the victims, while Watson says that he didn't. Watson said that he only went along with the womens account to look less responsible. However, both accounts have Manson present at the LaBianca crime scene of which I was unaware.

If one plans & instructs persons over whom one excercises control or influence, and they follow the instructions, that one is as guilty as if they had done the deed themselves. When I was a kid, (and when these murders happened) you couldn't be convicted of murder unless you actually murdered someone. (not counting Shea, Hinmann etc.). Much like back then anyone under 18 couldn't be tried in an adult court, happens all the time now. Manson was originally given a death sentence but that was commuted in the 70's when the Supreme Court overturned all death sentences.

He was eligible 7 years after his first sentence and his first parole hearing was in 1978. He has been denied 11 times since 1978. He will be eligible to re-apply for parole next year. Rest assured he will NEVER be released.

The life sentence was appropriate. Read "Helter Skelter" and see how little value Manson placed on other people's lives.

The women have Manson tying up the victims, while Watson says that he didn't. Watson said that he only went along with the womens account to look less responsible. However, both accounts have Manson present at the LaBianca crime scene of which I was unaware.

However, individual people in this country are responsible for their own actions. If someone tells you to commit a crime and you do it, is the person that told you to commit the crime responsible? Certainly not in most cases.

@Toneytc I think the main reason Manson gained so much notoriety was because of the book by Bugliosi and subsequent movie. Actually, I see Manson as less guilty than many of the others. It was the others that did the majority of the crimes. I know of no other case where someone has been convicted of so many crimes they didn't commit and spent so much time in prison for them. One "getaway' driver got off almost scott free after a deal. Manson was not the "triggerman" in the murders.

If one plans & instructs persons over whom one excercises control or influence, and they follow the instructions, that one is as guilty as if they had done the deed themselves. Manson was definitely guilty. That's leaving aside the credible evidence/testimony that he murdered Shorty Shea and his involvement in the death of Hinmon, and the Papadooodles guy or whatever his name was, he certainly shot/meant to kill him.

When I was a kid, (and when these murders happened) you couldn't be convicted of murder unless you actually murdered someone. (not counting Shea, Hinmann etc.). Much like back then anyone under 18 couldn't be tried in an adult court, happens all the time now. Manson was originally given a death sentence but that was commuted in the 70's when the Supreme Court overturned all death sentences.
