He did yeah, but in the book it was explained that he had noticed the picture of the officers wife, looked like his Mother, when he had stolen the silver frame, so decided to take the picture out and hide it in his shako.

Simmerson is portrayed as slightly comic on screen (especially in the ridiculous Sharpes Peril cobbled together from about 4 different books) which has just aired in the UK. But in the novels he is much more of a ruthless character.

The one thing I'd complain about is the whole Obadiah's mother thing -- suddenly she's just there in his hat and it all seems a bit random, in the novel it's much better explained, and you get a deep look inside Obadiah's mind. Still bloody great TV though, they don't make em like this anymore -- as the other year's appalling resurrection proves.

I think this is the best Sharpe actually. The next one after this is pretty damn good as well. The other really good one is where Sharpe has to defend the fort and they throw lime in the enemy soldiers eyes.

Bloody good series though. Sharpe's Waterloo made me so sad.

when Harper shoots his gun, he hits two people, hakeswill and some poor random redcoat. A third person, behind both of them, is holding a painting. He looks like a character out of some retarded cartoon when he looks back and forth and then darts away.

My favorite part is when Sharpe finally sees his little baby girl Antonia for the first time ever, so touching, poignant and heartbreaking - plus so sad because Sharpe gets sent off to battle and only sees his daughter one more time in his life! Hello there! I'm reading Sharpe's Havoc too! I love the books, I often find them more interesting than the series mostly because Sharpe lacks any kind of moral there lol But the show is great in its own. Like you, I also found it great to see Sharpe and Harper in action! And, yes, that is Sean Bean! I still can't imagine a blond Sharpe, but Sean impersonated him perfectly anyway no matter the color of his hair =D lol Sorry about my poor English. *Brazilian hugs*

I love the books too and have just finished the one where he goes to Denmark. From Sharpe's tiger to that one, which one would you say is your favourite.

It's hard to choose one, but I'm partial to Tiger (because it was my first contact with Sharpe)and Trafalgar (I love Commander Chase). However, I could say that Sharpe's Triumph is my favorite. The battle of Assaye with the attack of the Highlanders of the 78th and Sharpe saving Wellesley' ass is unforgettable!

Yeah i would have preffered to read the books before the television series as it would have made me appreciate the books alot more. Trafalfar is mad, it is a romance and an action with out the degree of smut that you would find in most romances. But i loved the battle scene! I remember reading Sharpe's triumpth (assaye) and it didnt contest to the other books as well, but when it reached the battle and post of the battle it intrigued me alot.
