  • been listening to alot of neo-prog lately and these are then worst vocals i have heard recently...

  • actually it's an excellent mix between 90's neo-prog and crunchy keyboard driven progressive rock

Jioti Parcharidis might not be always in tune, but he got such a weird original voice and I think it makes the album even more special; I was lucky enough to find his other band Ocquityn: they published Alibi in June in 1999 I guess, and it's another unknown little gem :)

  • I think it's NEO PROG ROCK like Marillion (first period) Arena, Pallas, IQ, Frost, etc...

  • Astonishing piece of prog-rock! Does anyone have the lyrics??

  • amazing

  • Very tight!!

  • Wow amazing song!! Downloading the album!! :]

  • @pollaris18 Yeah it's great..... Thank goodness it's downloadable cause to find the thing you'd have to be lucky

  • NOBODY CAN READ FAST ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU SAY IN THE BEGINNING!!! I'M HAVING A FUCKING STROKE!!!

  • It's definitely got a relatively unconventional approach and a mood and gestalt all its own.

  • My favorites are the comments from people who pretend that vocals are the only important part of the song. The vocalist isn't even that bad. Learn to view music as a whole and not shut down the whole song because of one instrument, you stupid bastards.

  • i love it *-*

  • singer is slightly reminiscent of Geoff Tate in places.

  • well it mght not be pure prog, however I feel ,from a 1st hearing, like I 'm enjoyin'it, thanks for uploading

  • All, sorry about this, but I think this band -at least in this song- sounds like all pretended progressive bands that replace musical imagination with progressive like sound. Sorry, is my opinion....

  • Ooh, interesting!

  • Anyone interested in progrock should chek out my channel

    Peace

  • I liked the first ten seconds of it than it got annoying...

  • Singer is now retired due to bad health.

  • @dbasto1 Oh wow.... that's unfortunate.

  • I adore the singers vox, he is so different!!

  • Sounds like the missing piece of the German Progressive Metal scene of the 90s, somewhere between Soul Cages and Dreamscape's debut.

    Thanks for uploading!

  • This isn't progressive rock...I mean it's slightly progressive. But at the same time while listening it sounds like they are constantly building up to something that never comes...It's more fantasy metal-ish anyway. And besides the singer sounds like he's purposely bad for a joke....two thumbs down.

  • Well Sooooorry.... I made a note that the whole Progressive rock thing was to get it a bit more attention since it had NO related videos at the start for one.. It's actually progressive metal and even so not the most original thing in the world but a cool song.

  • @ Que haces tu ?, Crítico sentado ,

  • @PandusBear It's progressive. I'm not sure how you define progressive rock, but all progressive rock is is experimentation. It was when rock was raised to a new level with new advances in the technicalities of music, and it incorporated other instruments/genres into rock. This falls under that category, fantasy metal-ish as you called it is an offshoot of progressive rock, which again is what this is.

  • Great Cover! (music nice too)

  • Great talent, for sure, however it does sound just like dream theatre to me, and not as good imo. Vocals are too cinematic and cheesy.

  • buena banda!! me gusta bastante fresca, me da un aire a las melodias de angra pero con mas progrsivo

  • It's not bad. But for some reason, it reminds me of a song that I heard sometime last year by a band that I haven't heard since. Was it this one? It sounded familiar, at least, but I can't confidently say that I've heard it before.

  • Wow, It reminds heavily to the beginings of Dream Theater. Abslut 80's prog rock. :)

  • TIPICAL 80's progressif rock, this group remaind me the French group "ATTOL"

  • Sounds really good.I like the progressive sound,it's so mixed and confusing,but that's what I like.Very psychedelic-funky-jazzy-rock-chill out sound.

  • guy sounds like singer from queensryche

  • Well I'm pretty sure he improved a whole lot when he moved on to Human fortress... Also hey, it was a start, wonder what they would have been like if they kept making albums.

but okay we all have our opinions.

  • yeah... "these guys really suck" when entire instrumental section of the band can play their asses off. your opinion is wrong, sorry.

  • Overall a pretty good band, IMO. As for the singer, I've heard plenty worse... but I would have put his voice lower in the mix... it doesn't have to be that out front!

  • sounds like he's trying to sing like Bruce Dickenson from iron maiden.

  • Hey this is a great song! If you have anymore of their material you should put it up.

  • I have posted 2 songs by them that are not uploaded yet.

This song is the best though.

  • Hey, nice song.BTW where from they come.Thx for posting.Real good prog.rock

  • Germany, and You're Welcome.

  • Thanx, and greetings from Serbia.Have to order Hydrotoxin's cd. This song kicks ass.

  • I have the album. It's great !

  • Not as nuts about music as I am.

    Trust me.

  • year??

  • 1996

  • Tool does alot of things.. motivates.. but sucking.. not one. I will shut up on that subject in fear of hurting feelings, ego's etc. this however is not that fucking great but it isn't total shit either.. there is excellent possiblity in this.. 1 thing lacking great song writing ability a way to tie in the entire content and have full meaning.. who is best at that? Porcupine Tree.. nuff said.

  • Man. This shit kicks ass.

I wish they would put out more bad ass work like this.

Tool fans: suck my cock 'n balls.

  • So awesome! Love it!!

Hydrotoxin and Tool should make a song, that would be cool, but hey...it's just a thought :)

  • Yeah, but the problem is, Tool sucks cock.

  • Or you can't appreciate good music. I think that's more likely.

    Tool is amazing.

  • Yeah, they're amazing to people with no taste.

  • Considering how I KNOW my taste in music far outpaces anything you listen to, I'd suggest you take your foot out of your mouth.

  • lol never heard tool but this guy's an idiot...

  • You KNOW shit, except that you listen to trash.

  • you can't say "people with no taste"...those very people may consider you to be the one with no taste...everyone has their own opinions; now stop being so opinionated :)

  • I tried to give Tool a chance, but it didn't work.

  • The singer sounds a lot like Roy Khan.

  • good song! =)

    more progresive rock

    watch?v=AwHarEjHdzI

  • Puuuuurdy cool.

  • imo too vocal oriented for prog

  • doing vocals for prog is pretty fun, and it work too if you know how to do it

  • rly? O.o

  • Thanx for posting this!!! I was the keyboarder of Hydrotoxin!!! xDDD

  • Awesome! hmmm... You have the first name, are German, and certainly look like him too. But the last name doesn't match up. But I'm pretty convinced you are in fact him, and if so...DO MORE PROG! XD

  • hi guys.... i was the guitarist from hydrotoxin... i have to say a few things...

first i can't believe that "oceans" is still making circles... thanks guys..

YARGOS is only a studio-project where i play some lead guitars.. (no songwriting!!)

if you are interested.. check my side at myspace - mail, songs, contact etc.

    and pls don't copy "Oceans"

here is new stuff from HYDRO with Jioti: check out musicload...

    thanks for support,

    Andreas

  • NOT WOOOOORTHY!!! *Bows* Two band members commenting on this video? You don't know how happy this makes me... I once read in early 2007 I think it was, that you guys reunited with a new singer...then silence... Did that ever work out?

  • Oh and Andreas, can one switch the currencies on musicload?

  • OMG so are you! Okay seriously...if you are gonna leave a negative comment be Constructive Criticism. Otherwise you just sound Childish... Is it the vocals? Instruments? and if it's the whole thing it would be nice to know why.

  • I was able to pick up a copy of this great album on ebay, its very hard to find.

  • this stuff reminds me so much of Dream Theater....

  • ah...once Dream theater came along...too many bands that sounded like them followed... They may not have been the first Prog metal band...but they practically gave it a set sound (Which is kinda bad)

  • ufffff!

  • Eh?

  • Amazing stuff!!

  • Is there any means of finding more info about Hydrotoxin? Would love to get permission to play this song on my podcast.

  • Hydrotomxin themselves are supposedly still around but have no site or nothing..The guitarist is with Yargos And Jiotti til recently was in Human Fortress... Last year they said they'd make another album with a new singer but a year went by... If ever they show up again with like a site, Contact them...

  • Hydrotoxin and Jiotti rock! :)

  • Anyways, I quite like this song.

The guitar solo is definetally the best part.

I also love the non-walz 3/4 time signature.

(Although I'm not sure if it's entirely in that time, I don't have a good focus at the moment)

  • i think it's 6/8 in some parts...

  • the riff at 3:50 is glorious

  • very cool song with excellent drum work and beautiful riffs

  • cool guitar solo :)

  • honestly he's singing out of key all over the place...if you have a trained ear this is really hard to listen to!

  • i agree his voice is not all that good, but the band is great he sounds like a weak version of geoff tate or midnite.

  • May I ask who Midnite is?

  • he is a singer from crimson glory, i may of mistaken on the name but its something in that nature, he sounds alot like LOST HORIZONS singer.

  • Crimson glory sounds like a good band...I'm disappointed to see they are gone though... I will have to check the other one.

  • crimson glory is pretty good but they are pretty good one good cd and the others are not that great. Lost horizon one of the best true power metal bands. But i sling towards the prog music. you listen to PAIN OF SALVATION or TOMORROW'S EVE. two pretty good acts in that genre.

  • I know POS, and I like allot of their work, Most of all Entropia and The Perfect Element...As for tomorrow's eve, I will check them out.

  • I know this is an old comment, but did you get to check out Tomorrow's Eve yet?

If not, do so. You will not be disappointed.

  • Nah.... I'm still around :) the answer is...kinda...heard a song or two not sure if they were exactly anything above okay....HOWEVER it may take some serious looking in to.

  • hi box, can you share some prog rock knowledge with me? my mind is only limited to dream theater. im sure we can get a better prog band out there are we?

  • well, we could start with Tool, try to search after 'fibonacci' here on youtube.

  • tool is okay to start with indeed. although i am not a fan, they are an alright band.

I would highly recomend Riverside, Pain Of Salvation, Tomorrow's Eve, Seventh Wonder; they have a sample of there new cd on you tube, Royal Hunt; if you like progressive neoclassical type stuff, as well as Time Requiem but they are not as good as they used to be. Symphony x, for a more power- prog feel. ARK and Conception. i hope that helps, i will tell you more when i think of any, main ones that i listen to

  • how 'bout Yes and ELP?

  • The bands you mention are a procession in cheesefeZt (though I kinda listen to Riverside and Pain of Salvation). I think the people here are more up for bands like Genesis, ELP, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Yes, Rush, etc.

  • Don't forget Gryphon and Floyd!

  • Well I didn't expect this to make the first page for Prog-Rock....I just did it to get it viewed more since it was the only video related to Hydrotoxin at the time (Now there are two) Maybe shoulda Done Progressive METAL instead. ah well, Got a nice 17,000 Views...more people need to know Hydrotoxin and related projects to it's members.

  • get into Tool, start with Lateralus (my personal favorite).

  • Cmon. you guys didn't list the actual founders of the genre!

King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes and many others from the time of 70s.

  • Suuuuure...but I didn't start on the founders...it may be best to start with a more modern version of prog then move back to the beginnings....

  • Considering what music you like. since if you aren't all that fond of 70s music you may not like the oldest ones....

  • (Months later) I am probably gonna finally get a crimson glory album, Their first one, but in your opinion what was that only good one?

  • Transcendence

  • kind of out of tune

  • Happens all the time in all genres of music...Not everyone has perfect pitch, a tuner, or the time...I let it by as long as it is not REALLY out of tune.

  • i dont have a really trained ear and im having trouble listening to it

  • the singer is actually out of tune..:) so u are right

  • hard to get past the vocals...

  • I don't think they're THAT bad.

  • aquasun is my favorite song of the album. thank you for putting this gem on youtube so that other people can discover this gem too!

  • That's a fuckin' fact! This is a forgotten prog-metal gem that everyone should discover, instead of the present new shitty stuff.

  • I have the original album too, what a gem! Hydrotoxin have been one of the most underrated bands ever in the progressive landscape; a perfect blend between prog-rock, prog-metal and neo-prog. Jioti is impressive, and I'm still searching his first effort with a band called Ocquityn: the album was called "Alibi in June" :D

  • I adore this album sooooooooooooooo much. One of my favourite albums of all time. That voice of Jioti is just out of this world. Granted, they're very much infuenced by Dream Theater's Awake phase, but I don't care.

There's a nice story about this album: I often pick out albums in a record by their cover and give them a spin in the store. This was one of them, I listened maybe two minutes to Infinite Ways, took the CD home and there hasn't been a month since that I haven't listened to it :)

  • I am jealous of you, and anyone who owns this album...

  • I could copy it for you and send it to you, if you like. I mean, this thing has been out of print for soo long and I on't think will be printed again. I don't know if it even sold 1000 copies, at all. Hence, I think this wouldn't be a real copyright issue, would it.

  • True, and if you can, if there is any more art, I'd like you to scan it for me, Thank you very much.
