  • DT is the best band in the world, with or without Portnoy, because they are truly inspired musicians and play whatever they want, both Mangini and Portnoy are amazing drummers and deserve to be respected by us all that love DT music.i had the pleasure of seing both playing live mangini this last sunday in lisbon, and believe me he is in the right place now.

  • pink floyd at 7:11 xD

  • First and foremost, let me say that I am a huge dream theater fan. I just wish that they would try to build on the sounds they made in thier albums Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, or Metropolis pt.2. It seems they are going in the direction more like Systematic Chaos, which is good but i like that mid staged dream theater the best.

  • Both are great drummers and both deserves respect!!

  • muito loko de +

  • Come on people it's time to relax and enjoy what they've created for us! We all loved Portnoys' creativity balanced with power that made the definitive DT drum sound. We gained a new progression in the band!

  • I just have something to say, if Mike Portnoy would produce this album, the results was ending into a.. I don't know, repetitive thing. I mean, Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds and Silver Linings were good albums and stuff, but Portnoy just want a 'dark' scene. I got bored, this Album is a new born for Dream Theater and I'm sure Mangini will give fresh ideas for them. This song is the roof of the Progressive and new experimental beginning.

  • "Portnoy is better than Mangini, Mangini is better than Portnoy" blablablalbla... who the hell cares? both are freaking legendary! And the music is awesome, and that's the only thing that matters really.

  • ...but i think its more than obious that wat made DT famous was the portnoy .....if anyone disagrees then i dont even know why are we all fighting about drumers cus nobody made a big deal when the key bord player left or when the fucking james labrei made a new band

  • @megatherion You're not looking at the COMPLETE picture. James LaBrie's amazing voice, John Petrucci's masterful guitar playing AND Mike Portnoy/Mangini's drums... All together form Dream Theater, the best progressive metal band there is.

  • @megatherion

*JORDAN RUDESS* didn't leave; he did a separate solo project.

  • @awesomeretardedvids I think he might have been referring to Moore or Sherinian.

  • i just woder why are they still togethr as dream teather? i mean all u idiot haters i agree they are god but they are not dream theater .......for all of u idiots that think about it if u make a band big u have the right to end it portnoy did that ...... he ended he band move on ..mangini great drumer ..

  • So progressive my head is spinning!

  • Everybody is different. Chances must be given. To others and yourself.

  • respectfully, i think the total package was and is Portnoy.. i agree that technically MM is better; but i would equate that to comparing George Lynch to the guitarists that tried to fill his shoes in dokken, some of which were technically better - however it wasnt the same without that lynch musicality. MM doesnt seem to fit on this album..however, i like so many others will give it the benefit of the doubt and wait for the next album to see if the kimchi is there from a creative perspective

  • Now I have to watch a stupid ad before everything

  • Dream theater is still dream theater even without portnoy,..

  • Some solo parts remind me of Petrucci's Glasgow Kiss

  • 1 person has failed to break all the illusions.

  • So many groups try to copy it but never approach it! (Andromeda I must exclude though). And the promising fact is that the main weakness of this album : the drums will disepear once Mangini will be completly integrated

  • gracias por subir el disco

  • Excelente cancion!!

  • forever portoy!

  • 3:55 The vocal melody is sounding way to much like the vocal melody on lost not forgotten.

  • Holy shit the meter in this song is fucking glorious.

  • this is the worst piece on the entire album, JUST BECAUSE OF THE LAME DRUMS... petrucci really could have done a better job writing it, totally not mangini's fault.

  • @zuzrwolrd It's the best peice you illusionist....

  • no,no the best part is from 0:01 to 12:26!!!!!!!

  • These were the fastest and well spent 12 minutes of my life.

  • 1:47 to 3:03 > Simply awesome

  • Around the 7:30 minute mark, kinda reminds me of La Villa Strangiato...

  • 7:10 My headphones start to be on the blink...

7:12 Wtf? My headphones had an orgasm!

I don't get why my computer always repeats this part...

  • The one person who disliked this song thinks that Justin Bieber is better than DT.

  • I love this album so much, it feels like a new dream theater

  • 0 people have not broken all their illusions.

  • Who just fucking loves the build up from 10:11 to 10:37, till the chorus. Legendary!

  • @SherryZProductions I know right! It builds up to a great climax.

  • @SherryZProductions Few things have ever been written which even compare to this. Even by Dream Theater.

  • 3:43 epicest riff ever

  • I love listening to this album on my dramatic....turntable of events :)

  • 5:21 to 5:24 love the 3 secs of funk!

  • god i never thought i would say this but i just dont like dream theater anymore sorry ....but no thanks... im on my 7th track and its just boring same shit over and over again ...i love on the back of angels but the rest god theyr are all the same ..i didnt even look at the post below he agrees ...realy i love dt and magini ....but i though they were gona experiment more open up more dark more heavy ..again ibeen listening to this fuckers since 2000 and this one is no good..dt is way better

  • absolutely amazing intro but after that its super bored, sound as all the rest of the songs

  • @metallicarockacion What the fuck? I just can't be arsed to say anything, DT isn't about happy choruses all the way, it's a mixture of technical prog rock solos, riffs and drumming that make Dream Theater. You call that boring?

  • @SherryZProductions thats just my point of view!. but actually you are right, I have lot of respect for the band and for you, I am agree. it is just bored but just for me!

  • absolutely amazing intro

  • love 3:40

  • BCASL>ADTOE

  • @adanilo379 I think Black Clouds & Silver Linings and this album are really good. To me, Black Clouds seems heavier and darker, while this album is still heavy but includes more piano parts from Rudess and softer vocals. All DT's albums are great, there's no way to compare them to each other.

  • @mysteryrevealedorg Um.. you mean 12 notes?

  • @mysteryrevealedorg No der you're christian or else you wouldn't be writing this comment. They may be singing about a god, they may be singing about a number of things, it all depends on interperatation. Obvious you interperet Octavarium to be about God. I interperet it to be about the never ending circle which everything falls in, after every life there is another and time goes on forever. It'd take too long to explain that in a comment. But spreading the "good news" like this will just make...

  • @mysteryrevealedorg (continuation)...people not want to.

  • @AlisonChaynes Petrucci programmed the drums in a fucking computer and got Mangini to play them. no shit they sound stock and boring. Why not go see DT live this tour and see Mangini do his drum solo? then you'll agree that he is better than Portnoy ever will be.

  • @SneakehNub agreed!! I saw the in toronto, THEY WERE AWESOME!!! and the drum solo was AMAZINGGG!!!! he goes crazy fast with one hand holy moly O_O

  • @moterhead7 VERY amazing! I would expect nothing less from an 11 year professor from Berklee but hot damn he must be the fastest drummer alive.

  • @SneakehNub In facts, he IS the fastest drummer alive!

  • @SneakehNub thats what i'm gonna do february. see DT live... fuck yeeeaaaahhh...

  • @SneakehNub Bought tickets so hope to see them live on Feb 2012.

On another note: No need to setup a pissing contest between Portnoy and Mangini as long as DT continues doing what they do it's all good.

  • @SneakehNub he is better technically, that obvious and hearable after first hear solo of Mangini... But Portnoy drumming had soul, that was whole Dream Theater...

  • @SneakehNub

Portnoy left BECAUSE he didn't want DT to sound samey and boring. And they don't. Mangini's a good friend of his and a phenomenal drummer, so respect Portnoy's wishes (leaving DT), please.

  • @awesomeretardedvids Actually Portnoy left because he wanted to take a break, and the rest of the band didnt..and shortly after auditions he tried to get back in, but DT had already informed Mangini he got the job..So Mangini left his job at Berklee...so basically DT wasnt about to leave Mangini high and dry because Portnoy missed his old GF after he dumped her.

  • Go hard the big four of alt metal. Dream theater, Dream theater, Dream theater and Dream theater.

  • @TriviumBeGod they're prog metal. nice try :)

  • who cares about the drummer. the johns and jordan are the real musical genius' behind dream theater

  • @6393dude are you an idiot?

  • This album is one of the BEST!!! ;D

  • 5:20 LOL

  • how I love late night alone in my room headphones on my ears and this song I'm just drifting away.... ^^

  • @TheFantasion Lmao i was doing the samething when i read this comment xD

  • I have to admit that without Mike, I was worried their songwriting would head down the "heavier, technical, emotionless, shorter, single-chord-repeating typical rock" path. Thankfully, this song has assuaged my worries.

  • dream theater are to a new level with mangini the man is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I admire DT a great deal for keeping American Prog. alive, along with Rush (North American), but often they sound like a Las Vegas "Prog. Lives!" all star tribute. Don't get me wrong, they often are awesome, if so over the top. I admire their unapologetic massive kitschiness. But, in my humble opinion, Porcupine Tree have gone way beyond this in serious songs and concise power.

  • 7:12 starts the orgasm !!

  • Well done DT!!!!!

  • The best song of the best album ever made by Dream Theater.

    True epicness!

  • @nanoload no way! maybe number 4 or 5.

  • Mangini's understated drums serve this album well.

  • hi

  • Damn finally.... this is the song!!!

  • Damn finally.... this is the song!!!

  • Why the heck does this song always seem so much shorter to me?

  • Comment removed

  • this song is fucking incredible.

  • its true the longest song on dt's albums are always the best because they can fit more genius into it.

  • A bateria ficou lá no fundo. Muito baixa!

  • This deserves more likes!!! Only 73 likes!? Are you guys keeding!? It`s DT for crying out loud!!!!!

  • This song literally gives me goose bumps... Which, actually, goes for pretty much half the album. Even for DT the latter is a first...

I know DT without Portnoy won't ever be the same, but it certainly is on the same level at the very least. So thumbs up, mr Mangini! Really, really looking forward to seeing you live in action in Zwolle, the 1st of February. :)

  • This is one of my favorites, now. Yeah, Portnoy is missing, but DT looked to the front... This is Really Amazing... Im 14 is that weird? (listening DT)

  • 07:11

    And start to feel.

The world is bigger... no, smaller... You're closer to the smoke. It's softly crawling.

    Walk... run! Fly... fly!

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • Intro <3

  • Stop with the "Portnoy, Portnoy" and listen to the fucking music

  • 69 likes haha

  • The Petrucci effect led the band to the Middle Ages at 5:02

  • intro guitar riffs are sounding like Jethro Tull's Martin Barre...

  • 5th Minute... O.O

  • Honestly, there's nothing impressive about listening to DT as a teen. I became a fan when I was 12 and never threw it in people's faces....

  • @KingVipero that doesn't mean anything...

  • does 7:11-8:50 call back the instrumental from Lines in the Sand for anyone else?

  • @USAon3 yes, and the LITS solo is my favourite Petrucci solo. Fantastic!

  • 05:21 DISCOOOOOO TIMEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great music! I'll surely buy the album, but what about the coverart? isn't it a little too much anti-portnoy?

  • @nanahachiire89 Is portnoy the clown? or the plane? or the rope?

  • @Flailwielder portnoy should be the clown, he's standing really high but he is on a rope that's about to break, while DT are still flying with their plane...

  • @Flailwielder I like to think Mangini is the clown, and is about to fall into the lives of DT as represented by the plane with their logo

  • I am absolutely blown away by this new album. Easily one of the best theyve ever done, and the best in 10 years. BRAVO DREAM THEATER!!!! Nice to hear them not being forced to sound like some band trying to write heavy music. Its very natural sounding now, and that Mike Mangini guy is a awesome drummer!

  • it's nice to hear the bass guitar on a DT album again!!! woohoo! this mix is just so much better on this album than in the past few....thank God for putting Andy Wallace behind the mixing board....

  • it's nice to hear the bass guitar on a DT album again!!! woohoo!

  • Im 16, i go to school tomorow. As i am writing this comment it is 12 am. WHY SLEEP WHEN YOU CAN LISTEN TO DREAM THEATER'S NEW SONGS

  • Wanna hear something crazy? I was introduced to Dream Theater last year by a good friend of mine. Also, 7:12 - 8:10.

  • hell yeah! .. myung!! thanks fideous!

  • Every song Myung touches turns out to be a masterpiece! cough fatal tragedy cough

  • @KingVipero No, I'm 14 and I listen to Dream Theater everyday. Owned. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @KingVipero

You wanna hear something crazy? I too am 15 but have been listening to them for 7 years. amicoolyet?

  • @nocommau I'm 23 years old and I've listened to them for 24 years. That's the Petrucci effect.

  • Ive been looking forward to this album for so long, and im not disappointed

  • @KingVipero Shut up idiot.

  • @KingVipero That just means you have good taste in music... at any age, always remember MUSIC has no AGE, it just is.....

  • @KingVipero That's not really crazy ._. I'm 14 and I listen to Dream Theater too ! Have been for 3 years, and it's perfectly normal, I mean, they're awesome, who wouldn't listen to them ?

  • By far the best song in the album

  • They know if JM has anything to do with the lyrics, they've got to bring it full force with the instrumentals. A little liquid tension and a little metropolis. Maybe even a little learning to live. Fucking amazing.

  • I would write "wow what an amazing solo" but then i guess i'd have 2 write that on every dream theater song... :P

  • Oh, and I will be playing that solo at 6:08, maybe uploading on youtube aswell, very nice..! :-)

  • Already ordered the album, i'll have it tomorrow.

I just couldn't wait and had to listen to it, the album is great untill this song, only this one and the last one to go.

I can honestly say by now that, well for me that is, this is one of the better albums since six degrees, very nice!

  • The first second reminds me of Wedding Nails by Porcupine Tree.

Anyway, that instrumental segment in the middle is probably the high point of the album. Excellent work.

  • I just didn't have the nerve to download it. I'll listen it first, and hope I'll find a way to buy it.

  • petrucci petrucci petrucci petrucci!!!!!!

  • The beginning sounds so much like Ytse Jam.

  • This is going to be one of my favourite ones!

  • The entire 5th minute of the song is ridiculous. I HAVE to rewind that part at least 5 to 6 times before I can continue on with the song. It winds up taking me 25-30 minutes to actually get through the song I rewind so much.

And then I just listen to it again once I finally made it through.

  • @Valkyrjah The 5th minute of this song became the first time that made me actually smile while listening this album for the first time. It is like a zesty twist alongside the album. It makes me shiver, and I want to relisten it.

BTW, from 7:11 reminds of Lost Without You.

Anyway, sends shivers down my spine how JP:s guitar playing speaks to me.

  • @Valkyrjah it took me sometime to get into it, but you'll get it soon, and when you do it'll be such a pleasant song to listen that you'll can't stop listening to it :)

  • The best song in the album, one of the best of all times

  • @diesalca THOSE WERE THE BEST OF TIMESSSSSSS!!!

  • @diesalca

Lets start with best on the album. No sense in being silly about "best of all time."

  • Beautiful

  • myung myung myung myung!!!!!
