  • and thats the way it is ?? lol xD funny guy :DD

  • You forgot to mention NEVER try to pull the wire brush back through the bore without pushing it all the way through the other side first. All the way through, all the way back, never try to just go "back and forth" with it.

  • Copper fouling can actually help long range accuracy as well, Todd from Magpul explains it. Very interesting stuff! It forms a "lining" over the rifling.

  • i want to be Larry's son !! and that's the way it is

  • Thanks Larry!!!!!!!!

  • that bore guide thing is a great idea which one do i need for my Remington 700 in .308 ?

  • How far do the guides go up the chamber or do they lock up in the cartridge chamber.????

  • why would you want to use a 1 piece rod over a 3 piece rod?

  • So that's how it is hhuuu

  • LOL AND THATS THE WAY IT IS LOLOLOL

  • Ken babington

  • does it works for airsoft?

  • @Phamnhatminh99 are you stupid

  • @NRXTM no...

  • @Phamnhatminh99 i ask because airsoft barrels dont get dirty because airsoft bbs are plastic and unlike lead they dont leave anything in the barrel besides airsoft has smooth bore barrel not rifled

  • @Phamnhatminh99 Are you serious?

  • I have another question maybe others might need to know to is there a way to attach a rear sight to a Boito Hiker 410 shotgun barrel is 12 inch long .

  • Larry whats your views on using a bore snake - should a person use nitro ahead of the brush .

  • @MrMrtiki You can use just about any bore cleaner with a bore snake. One of more popular solvents is Hoppe's #9, our product number 462963.

  • @MidwayUSA Awesome thats exactly what I use Thanks kindly.

  • What kind of Hun is that?

  • damn hate cleaning the barrel. only larry could make me want to do it

  • what holds the bore guide in place? i have seen bore guides that have a locking rod on them, but the one in this video does not have a locking rod, so what keeps it from moving around during cleaning?

  • @roaringwaterbay

Sorry for being three weeks late. The bore guide is the same diameter as the bolt, so simply sliding it into the receiver will hold it in place. Theres also the o-ring that goes into the chamber. I have the exact bore guide as shown in this video and its such a tight fit I have to use pliers to get it out.

  • this is confusing I thought you only needed gun oil.

  • Larry Potterfield is awesome... Dude is so damn friendly!!!!!!!!!!

  • @clj94104 if we had more Larrys world would be much safer thumbs up if you agree...

  • and thats the way it motherf*cking is.........

  • @thetroganhorse I laughed my ass off at this, mainly cause I know Larry Potterfield would never say that.

  • your the best !!!!

  • i heard that certian solvents are bad to use in stainless rifles

  • sweet!

  • how could 6 people dislike larry

  • Larry Potterfield, nice vid! and would that happen to be a 224 or a 22-250 because i have a weatherby 22-250 its a hell of a rifle with a $1,500 Leupold scope.

  • Kind of reminds me of Bill Gates

  • is it bad that the copper bore brush doesnt turn in the barrel?

  • @hein127 depends on the rifle

  • I would like to use the one piece rod with that bore guide. I have a Browning 270 A BOLT my old man gave me; Anyone know what length rod is best to use along with that bore guide?

  • i have a outers gun cleaning kit for my crosman phantom bought the kit a canadian tire and it came with nitro solevent , gun oil , patches , 3 peice rod , a copper bore brush and a thing for the patch to go on and well do i clean the copper bore bruch after using it and will the copper bore brush ruine my rifling in the barrel?

  • In iraq, iraqis would piss in the barrels and use a piece of string to pull out the fouling, it worked, but accuracy was fucked

    desert storm

  • That's the way it is.

  • Mr. Potterfied, Does this also work with Semi Auto rifles and pistols? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • When he dies.... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

  • Can lead remover also function as copper remover?

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks Larry

  • @shouldidoit Bro, this is a MidwayUSA video and you have to ask where to order?

  • hi i got some air rifle brushes do i have to use some kind of that gun oil you got or could i just use these brushes dry and do i have to spin the brushes or should i just press it through the barrel? plz i need your help

  • so the regular solvent cleans lead and powder fouling? Or JUStT powder fouling? Also, if you have a coat of protecting oil in the bore, do you have to clean it out (make the bore dry) before firing? or can you use the firearm with an oiled bore?

  • @generfeld Yes, clean the oil out before firing or it will create excess pressure and it can blow up your rifle's barrel.

  • @generfeld DO NOT fire a gun with a coat of oil in the barrel! I run dry patches down the barrel of my guns before shooting. This ensures there is not oil in the barrel. Shooting a firearm with oil in the barrel can create overpressure and is dangerous. Use a Powder AND Copper cleaner. I just realized this myself. Good thing I haven't shot my shiny new rifle much :) I need to get some of that Copper cleaner!

  • try using gunzilla (do a serch)to clean and lube your guns. you will never go back to the old stuff...

  • Is Larry using a 3ml transfer pipette to apply that Hoppes#9 solvent? That would be a great way to use this tall can of Ballistol. Any issues with the solvent deteriorating the plastic?

  • Hoppes #9 is all you need.

Clean the barrel until the patch looks clean then run a soaked patched through and let sit for 24 hours.

That #9 will dissolve the copper and you won't believe your eyes when you run another patch though.

    Repeat until done.

  • @Conan568 we used hopps #9 for years, and thought it was doing a good job. It is good for powder but does nothing for copper. Our 264 win mag started shooting all over, a gun smith figured it was copper fouled so he started using butch's bore cleaner in it. The fluid out of the end was running out blue. The barrel was full of copper. It took a few days of cleaning and soaking but the Butch's brought it back to working conditions.

  • @99kokanee

Hoppes #9 will do the same thing, you're just not doing it right.

You run a #9 soaked patch down the barrel and let it sit, muzzle slightly down overnight.

You will not believe the copper it dissolves.

Hoppes #9 WILL dissolve ALL copper fouling IF you soak overnight, it takes a while, that's all.

  • @Conan568 I have done exactly what you just described. The Hopps #9 will disolve the copper with an overnight sit, but the Butches Bore shine will disolve just as much copper in about 15 minutes. I prefer to have my guns cleaned in a day, not a week. The Gunsmith I took my 264 too, just shook his head and the first question he asked was about the hopps #9. He has seen many guns that are copper fouled because of the hopps. Its amazing how much copper will be left in a barrel

  • @99kokanee

Sure the new stuff works faster, my point was that Hoppes #9 WILL remove copper fouling, which you said it would not.

I assumed that you weren't soaking the barrel.

What is amazing IS the amount of shooters out there who don't have a clue about copper fouling.

The waiting does suck though, I'll give the Bore-shine a try.

  • @Conan568 yeah, Most people have no clue about dealing with copper fouling. The gunsmith I took my gun too also said that hopps will work great as a powder fouling remover, even better than the butches bore shine. Thus he said, he usually uses the hopps for the first couple patches and then switches to a butches. He said, pretty much every copper fouled gun he has seen was only ever cleaned with hopps or other nitro solvents. The key is the ammonia, if you can't smell it, its not for copper

  • What is the purpose of a bore guid and a muzzle guid and whats the difference?

oh and how tight shud a bronze brush fit in a barrel?

  • do you guys have a vid on how to mount a scope and site it

  • Man does he Larry knows all hehe. Of course he'll tell you you need a dozen products from midway USA. Its not that hard really but the 1 tool that does make it easy and is cheap is the level level level thingy to get your crosshair squared up. Other than that its just a matter of mounting the scope in the rings so that you can see through it straight away. Then go to the range and zero the sucker in or you can use a bore sight but you'll still have to fine tune it anyway

  • Everytime you shoot it.

  • @spenfisher2

I clean my rifles every 50ish rounds, or a day of shooting.

  • Comment removed

  • I would always clean the barrel after shooting any amount of rounds

  • If the barrel has already been broken in it should after about 50-60 rounds.

  • I don't think there's a man alive that could genuinely dislike Larry Potterfield.

  • Besides anti-gun tree huggers

  • @Gorbachev gorby on the hand....

  • @Gorbachev Obama would!

  • Anyone know what kind of bore guide Larry is using? Didn't find one similar one the Midway website. Thanks!

  • doing it like that is fine if you can get a decent jag for your calibre! I can't get hold of a .17 cal spear point jag so I just wrap the patch around the bronze brush- (I use patches that come on a roll so I can cut strips) and it works fine like this... if I get anything bigger then i'd consider using a spear point jag...

  • what rifle is he cleaning? answer ASAP!

  • Remington 700 SPS

  • lol

  • Do you have to have the o ring seal?

  • "That gun scope looks awesome, thanks for the tips.

  • Larry Potterfield is the master of gun maintenance and general knowledge of firearm care. Thanks for posting this!

  • Thank you!
