I'm sure most of you already know, but will tell the ones who don't........Billy Hinsche played keyboards for many years for the Beach Boys (when they were still together). Billy's sister (Ann) was married to Beach Boy Carl Wilson.
What's to explain? I don't know anything about them, but I assume they're some sort of musical prodigies. If that's the case, all I can say is that D,D & B were not in that category (which is quite rare by the way).
I'd urge you to do some serious research about them (DD&B) and 60's pop music in general and I know you'll find that what I'm saying is true.
And don't get me wrong, I like DD&B. In fact I have their first album (xmas present)!
Khultan: I'm sure they could play to some degree, but certainly not at a professional level, which is why studio musicians were used. Remember, at the time they were only kids: Desi was 13 and Dino and Billy were maybe 14 or15 at most. Really, how much musical experience could they have?
Also, Reprise records was owned by Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin was one of his cronies in the rat pack. Sinatra signed the boys to the label as a favour to Dean.
For Khultan: I'm quite certain that session musicians did all the playing on almost all their studio recordings. As I said, it was very similar to the Monkees. And like the Monkees, they did play live which I certainly give them credit for. I saw the Monkees live by the way (I was 13), and can tell you that it was impossible to hear anything they were playing because of the screaming. I assume it was a similar situation with DD & B.
As for Ed Sullivan, their performance was lip-synched...
So, you're saying that at that time they couldn't play their guitars and drums?!? Desi Jr. is the song of Desi Arnaz...a musician himself surrounded by musicians. Maybe you're right, but it just seems quite weird.
It was the parental pedigree that got them a recording contract. Like the Monkees, they never played their instruments in the studio; it was all session musicians (some great ones). How they did it live, I'll never know, although I imagine (like the Monkees) the screaming girls covered up any lack of ability and off-key singing. Ultimately, they had a couple of pretty good hits (I'm a Fool, Not The Lovin' Kind) and some great fun. Good for them...
I do not recall this RC ad. I do remember Joey Heatherton singing this same jingle. That song does bring back some memories regardless of who is singing it.
RC sponsored the TV program "Movin with Nancy" in late 1967, where I beleive this first aired. Nancy Sinatra does a swingin RC ad in the program also.
My dad was a RC Cola distributor in the 60's. I remember this well. AMC showed that "Movin With Nancy" show several years back. Think it was on NBC and yes, sponsored by RC Cola. I still have it on tape but pretty sure you can buy it still. She drove a real cool T-Bird in it- '55 to '57 style!
These guys had it all; the looks, the talent, great personalities and beautiful voices. Amazing to me that they never rode the wave to fame that bands like the Beach Boys did...not to dis Beach Boys. They're fantastic. Just missed out on these guys back in the day cuz I lived in Nebraska (the styx). They were GRRREAT
Ha I saw them at the Hollywood Bowel at the Beach Boy Summer Spectacular in 66

I've seen Billy play a lot over the last 20 or so years; I think he's a real musician.

I also felt sorry for Billy cause his folks weren't famous.
