I don't think some of us realize how easy it is to make someone's day. Especially if the affected person is a student who is being bullied/neglected. A lot of times, all it takes is that smile every day, or those few minutes spent exchanging small conversations to pass a small amount of time to keep that person motivated toward tomorrow. I can definitely relate to this story, from both sides. Thanks for sharing, @TkyoSam You're awesome, bro
nice. Like the video. I look forward to things like that letter in the future after I've been teaching for awhile. Hopefully I can be moved out there by like March some time.
awesome vid. sorry it took me so long to get to it. i have been moving around hokkaido a lot so keep losing my internet connection. i am an alt and i totally understand everything you said. i am just waiting for a letter like that to make me feel like i am kinding of helping out.

Thank you for giving me a more real perspective on what the job will be like and mentioning the negative aspects of it without just hating on it completely. Hopefully when I go to japan I can at least spark a real interest in English in my students. ( if i make it. c=) Maybe I can convince my BOE to start a simple anti-bullying campaign. Again, thankyou! C=
Great story I know i've been there. Something just so simple as hanging out and reading manga. An innocent friendly gesture can mean so much so someone else when they are down or just need a good friend around.
I'm a big guy to how do you stand the hot summers there. Keep Making Great Video's
also, totally agree with us foreign teachers having nothing to complain about. the reality of students actually learning English, yeah, you have to let that go and just do your job and enjoy all the benefits. we have it so much better off than the native teachers, Japanese or in my case Korean teachers get less benefits than I do and have to work harder! They can complain, we should just feel lucky and try to make a difference when we can. It isn't often but... whatever! just rive the rife!
You kick ass, I don`t know if you realize but you probably did more for that japanese girl, than every other teacher who just didn`t care about her and her problems...
She will probably remember you as the gaiyin who was with her in those painful moments, she will never forget you and that is mark that few people can make into another`s life.
word ive been watching your videos for a LONG time now and this is the first time im leaving a comment bullying sucks ass man. just hearing your story about how u helped this kid more people need to be like that. big ups!... fuck bullys .... stay black
"there never going to learn english with the ALT system." Soooo fkn true. The ALT system is seriously flawed, yet it is the most governmentally and financially backed system for learning English in Japan. Great vid dude. Also, is it just me or did your balls finally drop? cause your voice got much deeper LOL (playin!)
I think Sam's vids have come a long way since his 1st big in japan vids. they currently deal with the human condition and current issues in japan. i admit i used to dog this guy but i've come around to appreciate what he says. this vid clearly demonstrates Sam's kind side and shows he clearly doesn't follow the norm of society. Sam is a good kid.
incredible story Sam, looks like you was fighting happy tears for a sec. It always feels good to know that you had a positive impact on someones life. One of the happiest feeling someone can experience :)
Great Story, I've been here(in Japan) for the last 3 month now and seriously the way Japanese people deal(or should I say try to ignore) their problem just piss me off sometime...
I'm very moved by this story, man. Like you said, even for gaijins they still set up these expectations. I know how it may be tough for you because of the general expectations of this rigid culture, but you keep doing your shit and be yourself because people in Japan NEEDS people like you. They don't need another Japanese dude pushing their agenda against the entire country. These kids need people like you and a variety of others outside of that damn Japanese box to reach out to these kids.
Awesome story mate! loved it, I myself was bullied a lot and it really helps just to know someone doesnt mind haning out with you and doesnt hate your guts for no reason.
Great vid. Excellent story and huge props for sharing it. Jr. High is a tough time for the kids that get bullied and you made a big difference in that kid's experience and life.
That is an amazing story. You are indeed GTS. I hope to one day be a valid English teacher in Japan, and if I can make a difference, that'll be amazing. I think that teachers who are on the side of the students are always the best and the most likely to succeed and help out their students. Well done!
i normally like to see Sam travel around japan showing the sites that they have to offer. i had to hear what Sam was saying in this vid. watching this video made me so sad to hear that japanese don't have a way to deal with bullying. We are living in the 21st century and heading to 2012 and an advance society like japan can't deal with such simple issue. So sad. It's great Sam brought this social issue to our attention. Good for u Sam. i like this vid
Japan is always trying to stop bullying. It's a big issue here. This particular school dealt with it in their own -- albeit -- questionable way.
A 14 year old was just convicted of killing his gay classmate in the USA, but you can't say the USA is not trying to deal with homophobia in its schools, right?
Nice story and nice video :) You know it's kind of weird, you've been in Japan for like quite some years now, I'm 14, but when I'm like 18+ and I might go to Japan, so much might have changed and idk...you'll be older...
I wish I'd be older and stuff :\ although I'm happy with my life
Sometimes I'm just scared of the future...idk lol
Anyways dude, I'm glad for her and have a good day! :)
loved to hear your story. I'm so glad u could gelp that girl!
kids..they are amazing. sometimes I also do some little thing like paying them a bit of attention, treating them as a valuable individual, and they become so grateful, they never forget (obviously, especially the ones in need, the ones that r in a bad situation etc)
You really don't know your making a difference until you've helped someone out. It may not even be directly but once you find out actually made a difference. The feeling is awesome. Keep up the videos
So true man. I've learned that language schools can't teach you a language to fluency(all skills). You have to do it yourself, you have to spend the time and show up.
