  • I wish I was half as capable of expressing myself as she is in this interview- she has so much to say and is trying to get it all out in such a rush... if you take the time to listen and pay attention, it's all about her passion for music: why she's so passionate about it, why it makes sense to her, how she's developed as a person and the role that music and writing have played in that development. I wish I could be as self-aware as she is.

  • @dafoosballer: I think I may have illustrated my point about my lack of ability to express myself quite eloquently in that last comment. At least I'm good at irony... :)

  • I got chills myself from this interview...

  • I can so relate!

  • holy fuck fiona apple is an old woman now

  • She's exactly like me o_O

  • ugh!!!! you are so awsome and strange,we love you

  • raw beauty

  • She's such an eloquent speaker!

  • She's such a truly lovely young woman.

  • She should go to college. College of Staten Island. City University of NY. And come out with another album. Then, if all the fans would stop posting her music on youtube for free so she can't make a dime off her work (but Google can record record profits thru Adsense click throughs), she'd be set. Until then, she SHOULDN'T come out with another album (because fans will give it away for free as if it's there's) and not go to college (wait for an honorary degree).

  • So, thanks, Fiona, for following your dreams, and for doing what made YOU happy!!!

    WE THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

  • Awesome!!! I love this gal so much!!! And that she said about college... That made me feel that maybe we wouldn't even know her, if she had ''wasted'' her time (2-5 years) studying something she probably wouldn't work with (or being unhappy while working as a vet, or smth) in the first place. Sooo...No, college is not that important as society (or parents) makes it feel like. Actually, there are many famous people we like that never went to college, and those who did, don't work with it anymore.

  • Always love Fiona!! Love!

  • Write a book, Fiona! Not an autobiography (hey you can do that when you're older), but a novel. I feel like she can express herself in words through more than one medium. She's very spiritual without seeming to know it.

  • Amazing !!!...

  • Where is she?

  • All she says is always so simple, clever and entertaining. She should write a book

  • what year is this from? She looks so beautiful..I think she is getting better-looking with age..love her gloves, too.

  • "who likes my stamp? Be my friend?" In a heartbeat fiona : )

  • love love love

  • Big Fan

  • So painfully honest. I adore her.

  • She is an extremely intelligent creative emotional observant analytical understanding empathetic person. Where are other people like this?? Do people like this just pretend to be normal everyday people? Are they just brilliant actors who know it is easier to just blend in than be misunderstood? (sigh.)

  • wow..amazing.She described to the letter exactly what it's like playing music with others. Something non-musicians couldn't understand.....until now. Thank you, Fiona.

  • she looks amazingly mature despite the cow print gloves...lol and yes playing music with some one is def between conversation and sex. Fiona Rocks!

  • I would like to read the things she wrote. Being in the moment in a song: there is a video of parting gift, when the audience claps at the end of the song, it startles her. She would be a great person to know and have as a friend.

  • She uses english so beautifully. It seems it's really important for her if people get what she is saying, i don't see that very often. breathtaking.

  • @Anniesik i agree it is breathtaking. its difficult to get a conversation like that out of someone unless they're really passionate about the thing they're talking about. but it also feels like she's talking to one of her soulmates, so i feel grateful on multiple levels.

  • Aged? Wow, it amazes me that she is even more beautiful now than she was at 19 y/o. She speaks so eloquently from her heart. She shows me that vulnerability can be so powerful, disarming, and intimate. Those who fear intimacy or cling to control will likely be intimidated by her.

  • i love how she talks and those gloves. she reminds me of a child when she speaks. i love it. its as if she hasn't fully grown up. she's entirely beautiful and still awes me <3

  • She's breathtaking. I'm glad I found this. Her words are wonderful to hear then and now. I'm thankful she lets us in... I always wish for more

  • How can I say I was surprised at how much shes aged without coming off like a complete asshole? I love her music but it was kind of a shock. Maybe I just think of her as 19?

  • When she's interviewing she doesn't just share intermediate short synopsis's of a vague glance into who she is. She tries to share a piece of who she is, and what motivates her. What's seemingly spuratic behavior is really her being true to her audience, and not giving us what we may think we want to hear. She's deep and twisted in the deapth of her beliefs which is what makes her such a beatiful person, song writer, and artist. She's amazing, and after watching this interview I'm forever a fan.

  • Those eyes....

  • well first of all this is edited so it looks like one big long rambling rant by her, I'm sure it would sound better if the questions were seperate but yeah she does seem kind of neurotic (what is with the gloves?) but that's really what makes her music good and she's one of those artists that truly puts her real life in to the music (layne staley or elliott smith ring a bell?)

but most importantly where the hell is her new album? it was supposed to be out by now

  • For the people who think she is crazy/ insane.. This is what extremely intellegent looks like. She is extremely aware and understanding of life and emotions and knows how to express it in a way you cannot understand. Just because of that she will have a better quality of life. Fiona Apple in Incredible

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic and she's not afraid to look and sound as excited as a little child. LOVE!

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic I agree. Geniuses seem crazy to average minded people. Ignorance is bliss. I wish I knew Fiona personally - I feel like I can relate to her. But I am thankful she has been shared with the world. What if she had ended up just working at Starbucks or something?

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic totally agree with you:)

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic totally agree with you:)

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic she is insane and thats part of her genious. I dont think Id like her if she was sane and well adjusted. Most brilliant people are crazy

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic If that means wearing sheer gloves that looks like they're from dead Dalmatian, well... I don't know how to finish this sentence.

  • Fiona Apple and Tori Amos were so revelant back then in the 1990s , it makes todays Katy Perry and Lady Gaga look like pop music / pop culture dinosaurs

  • i love that crazy bitch

  • Funny how they shoot this interview like an apple ad. The lighting, cam angle, are all the same. And she's wearing a pair of snow leopard gloves :)

  • @500ncb Well, she is Apple, isn't she?

  • funny they shot the interview like an apple ad. the cam angle, lighting, and film speed are exactly the same.

  • Fiona Apple has this grand depth that several take for granted.

  • first half she sounds spastic and I felt bad for her, but the second half she ties it in and I realized where she was going with her story and its amazing she can articulate these metaphysical experiences.

  • wow she is amazing :D

  • Note to self: You are a nobody with a lot of big, bad ideas. this is an artist that was and will never be again. She is nuts now.

  • @boboxp "Notes to self"s are generally notes to oneself. Just FYI.

  • This is a wonderful, pure interview. NOTE that the way they cut it, they removed pauses and jammed things so close that it seems to be coming out faster than it is. She is a great, careful speaker, natural and emotional - you can see it in her face. There is some great truth here, from a seeker of truth and real emotion and experience. It's anything but the "show biz" you see other people do. I love honesty and this is a wonderful interview. Some people here are afraid of letting her be her!

  • Keep on doing the thing that works for you Fiona. You rock!

  • Keep on doing the thing that works for you Fiona. You rock!

  • I personally love her "crazy" as everyone seems to call it.

  • Pay lots of mind to bobxp who knows this crazy chick. She's nuts right now and she's not coming out of it. What a fucking moron - "Listen to Fiona's albums in succession". What are you retarded or just bored? If you can read these words and understand them than I hope you will know that you r a monkey and she looks like shit as she ages out. We hope for better days. You cunt.

  • Ha, pay no mind to @boboxp . He/she has no idea what they're talking about. If they knew anything about Fiona Apple they would bite their tongue and take back what they said. Listen to Fiona's albums in succession and you can hear her literally evolve and grow as a person. What does @boboxp know about that? Nothing so it seems. Good luck.

  • what the fuck was nutty about that? if you had any emotional intellect you'd realize that this girl knows exactly what life is about. shes not hazed or jaded by all the shit that you clearly are. shes real. if you cant handle that then i feel sorry for you.

  • vvvvvvvwhoever just dissed her, fuck you. you have no life. shes aesome and different and she accepts it now go way

  • she's actually still attractive but her mind seems to elsewhere. I can only imagine what a date with Ms Fiona would be like right now. No doubt a freakin monologue like this. poor girl. I hope she finds a very patient man.

  • @boboxp

Either do more coke and more booze, or do less. I`m almost entirely convinced your pity would be better served to a person more deserving, yourself perhaps?

  • @dorknight25

Or do more cock or more booze or more coke ... na... ain't none of that here. She is aging out and is getting more weird looking and quite odd acting. I love her music but I'm distressed at her behavior of late.

    M

  • @boboxp For someone who is looking in the rear view mirror at her, you sure seem to be obsessed with downplaying her. Get a life.

  • Comment removed

  • @boboxp You don't have to be so mean. Fiona is a complicated soul.

  • I can naturally identify with her, she reminds me so much of myself when I see her interviews. She's incredibly deep & thoughtful yet it is as though she finds it hard to verbalize things, which I understand. Verbalizing is sometimes one of the hardest things for me to do, but when I write ANYTHING poetry, songs, essays, ect..it's so thorough & understandable but when speaking it is hard to describe certain things to ppl. She's not crazy & I'm not weird. Beauty is Individuality. God bless Fiona)

  • @angeleyes86ebby Don't discount her nutty rants. Good people run aground and I respect your loyalty to her... But don't let your loyalty cloud your eyes. She is off the tracks and has been since that strange rant at that award's ceremony 10 years ago. U can go down with the ship Fiona but I see her brilliance in the rear view mirror.

    B

  • @boboxp I will only say this once. If you don't or cannot take the time to understand the depth of ANY human being on the face of this Earth, or cannot see the beauty in every individual, at least Do Not Judge Them.

Your opinions are not based on fact they are your opinions, but I still respect that they are yours. I wish you love, fulfillment, & happiness. And I hope that you will shine the unique light that YOU have within more brilliantly, than these comments would imply. Take care.

  • @boboxp It's a "strange rant" to tell people they should not follow after celebrities? Thaqt's all she said is that people should stop being sheep. How the hell is that strange? You're the one who apparently knows enough about her to say: "she's off her tracks and has been....", seems to me you're the one who needs to get a life here.

  • Classic Virgo...

  • The look on 2:32

    Priceless.

  • Thanks for the interview.

She's not insane. How many creative people have you known really? We are a little bit west of "normal", and thankfully so. How much vanilla, buttoned-down, sweater-set does the world need after all?

  • Thanks for the interview.

  • She IS going insane. Ain't no big deal. no need to get so angry. She is growing nuts... in her hair and other parts. She has lost her mind? I love her ... but she is fucking nuts now.

    B

  • @boboxp

Are you a troll or just an idiot?

I hope for you that You're a troll because there's no remedy for idiots...

  • @boboxp that's why she's so cool. she's crazy and doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks.

  • When I was a kid I used to go to these Christmas parties all the adults would get liqueured up on beer & whiskey sours. Some would smoke these funny smelling cigarettes. Like 10 of us kids stole one and smoked it. Don't remember much after that. It was the 70's.

  • @DominicRiv Not bad but very rusty for a start. Start drinking if ur not and then run words that don't usually go together and then try and put them together. Fuck up the semantics that run keeps this world on it's edge. You seem too dumb to listen.

  • @boboxp Good one. You got me therre! Zing! Calling me dumb. Ouchy poo

  • Stop talking. Ur boring me. Start singing.

  • @boboxp her speechs are my religion

  • @gelbabigel She's not the truth. She's a fucking singer for godsakes. and a shitty poet. U want to place ur arms around a malcontent? A godless speck of dust? I would run myself into the ground for no one and yet y run ashore for this beast. Low effort and low life's effort. You're run aground. good luck. I'm climbing out of this cellar.

  • Fiona IS the Truth. Deletion of Ego. Humble, Talented and Beautiful. Makes me not want to give up faith in people, because it makes me realize there are some really good ones out there.

  • @namizmo Thumps up !

  • i love her

  • i am so hungry for fiona's next album. i'm glad she gives us plenty of time in between. i know her songs well...her refrains, her habits, the emphasis she puts on words. when i listen and sing along i also get the chills. fiona makes me want to use each word as beautifully as possible when i'm writing a poem or something. it's hard not to touch her lyrics and put them in my poems.

  • I adore this beautiful brilliant woman. I sure would love to read all those youthful writings. I wonder if and hope that she saved them all and if she did I wish she would share them with us.

  • I adore this woman.

  • You can totally sense what she's talking about when you're watching her live performances. I just watched her sing her song Paper Bag and it really made me miss performing.

  • true that

  • man she's just great...

  • Comment removed

  • I've been rooting for this woman since the beginning, and it sounds like she's in a much happier, more content state emotionally! :)

  • Can't wait for her next album. Heard it'll be out by next year :D
