@palonitas Yeah, but you would have to manually fill your air tank, and if you run out of air and your by nowhere to fill it up your shit out of luck. 1 Viair compressor is not loud at all.
i want to do this to my daily nissan versa hatch. just dont know where to start... any suggestions? oh and can you put airbags to a car that has camber wheels?
i honestly have no idea but could you do this to a classic mini cooper because i have been looking to do something like this to it for ages please help asap
Listen i got a celica Year 2001 and i would love to put some Air Supsentions on it. Would you think i need to change my mudgourds? cause they are still stock but I like how they Look :) please Respond thanks ^^
these airbags are really slow need bigger lines in it. what size lines are u running. i got a front back side side airbag kit and its way quicker than this...
Speed is not everything - these are modified cars, which are built specifically NOT to have really fast air suspension as this just damages bodywork. Most of the cars here use 1/4 or 3/8 line, and the maximum we use if 1/2 inch. Fast also means hard to hit the pressure target - these are daily drives, and accuracy and durability are the overriding factors.
You could but it would be very uncomfortable fully down or fully up. There is what we term a comfort window - the area that gives good ride, and good handling in the middle - about 2 inches of the 6 inches of travel for proper driving, You can drive at any height but only at very slow speed.
That depends a great deal on the vehicle in question, and on the speed of operation of the system. Please cll or email with specific details for a quote.
il forward the idea of replacing the coils on their cars to everyone i know who is running coilies
you seem to be adamant that air ride is good, so i'll take your opinion on board, but adjustable coil-overs is the easiest way to improve your suspension.
plus im not into the whole pumps and crap weighing the car down
not the fiberglass, 20" chromes, lexus lights, lambo doors look but they arent really after track day suspension, so air ride is perfect for them to show their mates in the carpark
Adjustable coil-overs are cheaper that is true. It is also lighter that also is true, but the versatility of air is unparalleled - it has an infinitely variable spring rate.
The compressors only weight a few kilos - maybe you are thinking of hydraulics which does have big pumps.
Many american muscle cars use air to improve the handling - not coilovers.
I agree that it is not for everyone, but I guarantee that if you fit both to exactly the same car then air will come out best.
We will see who is clever, when I can adjust my car from fully up to fully down once per second, and you need twenty minutes to adjust your coil-overs!!!
Oh and the new quantum sport bags we use handle as good as a coil conversion, whilst riding as well as the original suspension - pretty clever really.
or you could set your coil-overs to a low ride height and keep them like that, without bouncing them up and down. there is no way air bag suspension will ever handle as well as coil-overs, to people who like the look of the saxo in the video, (at least i think thats what that thing is) then im sure they will be very popular... for me though, its got to be height and dampener adj's everytime.
On what basis do you decide that air cannot match a coil spring - the dampers are the same, and the airbag is just an adjustable spring - so it can have exactly the same spring rate as the coil over when inflated - so if it has the same spring and the same damper, of course it will match the coil over.
Everyone has a choice, but its simply not true to say that the modern air system will not match a coil over set-up. It will, and they do, every day of the week.
i still prfer the pumps its the sound that makes it cool 2 my mate has a old nissan on with pumps and a escort but you canyt get it on 3 wheels very well
You are right the hydraulic pumps do sound cool, but they are so heavy and its really difficult to get the cars to handle well. Thats not an issue with a good air install.
The hiss of the air has its own appeal for many people.
Then you have it set-up wrong try reducing the amount of air in the bags - Air suspension is softer than the standard suspension on most cars. Only when installed wrong (often to overcome large wheels) does it become harsh. Alternatively you may be getting confused with Hydraulics which normally ride harshly - air is soft.
Because air allows you to alter the ride height at any time - not just when you are in the garage.
Most "slightly lowered" cars end up with poor ride quality, and customers almost always want them lower, but cannot put up with wheels or bodykits touching. Air allows the best of all three factors - comfortable ride, good handling, and the ability to adjust the ride height at the touch of a button. Most car enthusuasts also see it as one of the coolest modifications you can make.
dude.. i had a few bagged trucks and first off, every one of them cars needs bigger valves cause they're all slow as shit, second ride quality with air blows dick unless you like riding on suspension that feels like a basket ball dribbling and anything bagged handles like a bag full of water, all swayin and sloshy, none the less i do like bags and miss my bagged minitrucks..
not when it's powered by air... as this sytem is. hence the name "Air ride" and the video title "air suspension", and the part of the description that says "This video shows various cars onto which we have installed air suspension"
For most people who want a set-up that is light, compact, and alters the car in about a second or two there is only 1 choice - AIR. I have cars with both and would always choose air over hydraulics if you are actuually going to drive it, becasue it has a better ride, and handling. You also don't need banks of batteries and pumps - some hydraulic systems weight up to 600Kg, and can rip the bodyshell apart - air normally comes in around 20Kg and I have never seen a road install destroy a car.
depends on the car and how stock you want to keep the interior looking. I have a friend who did it to his S10 for about $2500 but that's considering he did all his own fab work
Thats about the only thing that air does not do very well, as opposed to hydraulics, but given that air is so much better at almost everything its worth missing out for most people. Some cars will carry an element of tuck on the rear, but its not like hydraulics.
it's like a substatute for a crappy lowrider, its cheaper, but you can't get a good jump out of it, still, I have to idmit, it is very kool, hook it up yo
Well, you're right it's not 'air' it's called hydropneumatic and it's held up by hydraulics but the springs are air chambers. When slammed there are no forces in the system it rides on bump stops - I can assure you it's very tough! Sorry trying not to be pedantic but there are a lot of myths about it! Still lovin the air ride tho..
I always thorught the spheres were nitrogen filled, but I am sure you are right. The instructions still say not to drive the car with it slammed! My mums citroen takes ages to adjust the height - not as quick as airride, thats for sure.
whats the difference between the airbag and the hydraulics..? and which is the better one? and do they do different things? does the air bag kits make the whole body go up? or can u make them go up on each side as u want...?
In short. Air bags, are for lowering your car when parked or otherwise stopped (basically lower it for looks, then raise it to clear speed bumps ect, up and down thats it). While hydraulics are capable of doing "tricks" (hopping). But have a much worse ride, and you have to carry huge banks of batterys, pumps, and reservoirs. Where as in the air ride setup, all there is, is a air tank, and compressor.
Air tends to give a more confoirtable ride, can hadle better than original and still doing almost everything hydraulics do. The air bag will make the entire car go up if you press the button, or just the front, or just the corner you have selected - its completely independant - each corner can be controlled individually.
Most of the cars on the video are not very low, but on many the tyres do foul the bodywork at the lowest setting - this can be resolved by tubbing or turretting the towers if needed.
