  • Seriously I agree Skyrim was not what I expected at all.

  • You know whats sad, This has better graphics than skyrim does.

  • So even the iPhone has better graphics than the Wii now?

  • So even the iPhone has better graphics than the Wii now?

  • What is the final name of this game? PM me the answer please.

  • omg oblivion on ipod

  • Minecraft+steroids+Realistic TexturePack+Apple Capability-Block Removing/Adding= Epic Citadel...

  • I just played demo this now I'm gonna go buy infinity blade cuz it's just that frikin EPIC:)

  • guys its not a game its just the gane`s engine preview...so every company can develop

  • Is the whole game just looking around???

  • What is the purpose of the game?

  • Thumbs up for UT99 =]

  • i think if they put npcs in the game it will lag :)

    i'm wrong?

  • So what can you do in epic citadel? just walk around?. you dont fight or anything?

  • @Bateend75

nothing...its just a demo of the graphics

  • Apple has converted me.

  • 3 talk at the same time. This is what i herd... blardiriblahblahbirriblibyblah.meanerd.blahblah

  • GET:;,A;`.FREE,;;IPAD:.,'`'

  • android cant handle these graphics

  • @Jaroldv127 damn right they cant!! lol

  • @Jaroldv127 ahahahahahahahaha how can u say that rofl android phones cpu and gpu's are way faster then the old iphone 4 one, like the lg optimus 2x got a tegra 2 chip dou core cpu

  • @sprayframe Not only does it run on Android, but also via HDMI to your big screen TV. Take that, iDevice.

  • 3 ugly nerdy applesexuals getting horny from a tech demo

  • what do we have to do in this game.....Just roam around???

  • Yawn...

  • This is so fucking amazing on the new touch because of the Retina display dude it's awesome.

  • IMAGINE EUPHORIA ON IPOD!

  • PSPmaster321 that would be so sick

  • So do you only explore in this, no action at all?

  • ugh, i have to give credit to iPhone great game. Samsung vibrant

  • The iPad and iPhone 4 have exactly the same stats, apart from the displays.

Both are IPS Displays, although the iPhone 4 has a higher pixel density.

Only the lower resolution on the iPhone 4 makes it run smoother (not slower).

  • @jadephyre iphone4 has twice as much the memory as the ipad

  • hello retno display.

  • Oh My God, The GRAPHS.

It reminds me of , like, living there or something.. It reminds me of infinity blade

  • @Reikoartz You dumb shit, this vid is outdated. Epic Citadel is the tech demo for Project Sword, which became Infinity Blade last week. Holy fuck can you not put 2 and 2 together?

  • @TheMattswindle Dude Chill out, it's my fucking comment. I said it reminds me of the game infinity blade. I didn't say that it's infinity blade. and I know what this is, u fuckin piece of shit -.-

  • hes lik "thats got 2 compete with ds

thers been mpre ipod touches sold than sony and nintendo portable devices combined

  • It's out now the name is Infinity Blade

  • its not tested but busted

  • 3D RUNESCAPE !

  • @shittyfuck Nah, I wouldn't want that at all. It would only work on the PC really.

  • reminds me of oblivion!

  • this gonna cost 5.99 USD the 9 th december

  • @TheRAPHAIEL It's worth it.

  • Which platform does it perform better on? the iPad, or the iPod Touch 4G (apple A4 chip & retina display)

  • @iMac1787 they both run with the same A4 chip, but since the screen of the ipad is bigger, I guess that it's more fun to play on it.

  • amazing

  • So, is this going too be a real game?

  • Eh, i'd actually be impressed if there were actually characters and models being rendered and shown, dynamic lighting and shadows, instead of showing bump mapped polygons and pasted lighting textures.

Or actually take a different art style that doesnt rely on hurr durr need moar polygons

  • I want to play this so bad!! Damn it! I have ipod 2g.... :(

    I cant play it -.-

Does this work for ipod 4g?

  • @FalcoLombardi19298 It works with ipod 4g.

  • @FalcoLombardi19298 Yes it works great on ipod 4gs :D!

  • Someone needs to remake a Harry Potter game using this engine! Just look at it!

It's Hogwarts begging to be made!

Imagine a Harry Potter game with a huge castle, grounds, ability to play quidditch (with accelorometer) cast spells (using actual finger motion), learn new spells, explore, find secrets, etc! All with these amazing graphics, on an iPhone.

I think someone needs to jump on this idea quick :)

  • @PSPmaster321 Dude!! I so agree! I have an iPhone 4 and I downloaded this app and couldn't ever get the idea of Hogwarts out of my mind! It KILLS me that I cant go on the paths by the ocean! This is the perfect platform for an industry changing game! =-D

  • @PSPmaster321 A good idea, harry potter has not been served justice in a video game, and just screams video game. I would enjoy a good harry potter game on any system, although wii and iphone seem to do it a bit more justice.

  • @PSPmaster321 Get Infinity Blade!

  • @OkayBoot Yeah, it sucks. Nuff' said.

  • @PSPmaster321 Imagine 3 million dollars for purchasing the rights of Harry Potter and you have yourself the reason why nobody tried this. :D

  • @Nickolakis21aek Infinity Blade, a game which uses this engine and is clearly not Harry Potter, has made more than 2 million dollars in 4 days and over 10 million dollars overall. I'll let you do the math.

  • @PSPmaster321 they need to make it a not harry potter thing though, let the player be their own self, that would be awesome

  • @PSPmaster321 From your description itself, I reckon it'll be more than 1gb

  • @PSPmaster321 every hairy potter game sucks to date. If they can't do it on pc, xbox, or ps3 they definetly can't do it on this. Haven't your harry potter dreams been crushed yet?

  • How can you not notice the horrible input lag while interact with the device? Fast twitch based action games must surely be unplayable.

  • he says this must compete with DS, well obviously! who would want to look near a DS tbh after this

  • This app always crashes

  • @RMCKIE maybe cuz u are not 4g

  • ... does anyone remember when we had PSP and Nintendo DS?.... i dont..

  • The problem is that there aren't any people or characters of any kind rendered in the demo and, even then, it's not silky smooth. Imagine how bogged it could get if it had to render people. Not to mention, it's still not all that impressive for a device that Apple spouts off as a Netbook killer, though it's considerably more impressive on the iPhone.

  • nice threadless t shirt

  • take that, Android.

  • @sprayframe

Haha, when the Tegra 2 comes out, Android will own the shit out of the iPad and iPhone4. It already does, but it'll be even better.

  • @sprayframe They are working on a version for android. Samsung galaxy S will probably have better FPS since it has a better graphics chip.

  • @DhasseLOL it will probably be really crap though. Most android devices use the Snapdragon processor and that is no match to apple's A4 processor. The A4 processor is apparently 10-30% faster than the Snapdragon's processor as the A4 contains 3 layers of circuitry.

  • @someonethehedgehog Why would they make it less good? They could have made it worse on the iphone so it worked for the fat iphone, but they didn't. Why would they make it work with crappy androids? SGS could handle this without any problems.

  • @sprayframe You'll find a video of this running on Android tablets on YouTube.

  • @sprayframe Youtube: watch?v=-UqSha4ajMw better late then never!

  • @sprayframe umm search up the atrix 4g

  • @sprayframe

i actually support android, i mean less mystified source codes and more free software!!!

  • @sprayframe watch?v=eBvaDtshLY8 Take THAT iOs

  • This calls for a new generation of game consoles! This is astounding for portable technology, and I really want to see what next generation consoles would be able to churn out.

  • WoW NERDS.

  • Apple is getting more and more social.

    Ping is here

    And now game center too

  • Amazing quality on the iPhone 4. The end of PSP and Nintendo Ds is Here

  • THE END OF DS IS HERE

  • Wow better than ps2 graphics O.o

What this world has come to :D

  • god damn it! I have the ipod 2G and i cant get it!

  • @jayjaybob2 me too! i think i will buy byself a 4g. or shuld i wait for 5g?

  • they look toward eachother after every sentence, as if trying to gain approval from eachother. lol

  • WOW. Better than psp.

  • Will it work on the ipod touch 4th generation?

  • @MrTommyboy247 ye...

  • @MrTommyboy247 of course it will man, ive had this for ages lols, such a good demo :P

  • wow Epic never seizes to amaze me. Gears of War FTW!!!

  • Gameloft games stink. Splinter cell is shit.

  • Won't run as nice once enemies are added.

  • 2:11 Birds in sky :DDD

  • best portable graphics

  • @DJsasuship I think the 3DS blows this out of the water in all ways except texture resolution.

  • It's a pretty nice game! I have it on my iPod. And i'm on my iPod right now!

  • This looks pretty awesome, but still, i havent seen something more than the city, we need more to make a conclusion. Graphics of the city awesome, but, gameplay? what else can i do there? what is gonna be about? story? characters? the same of allways? more? how much its gonna cost? is gonna be free?. Im neutral for the moment

  • @EricRuna

What we really need are developers being allowed to design games alongside controller cases that give people tactile buttons. But then you bang into other problems like, are you really gonna fork out for 3rd party controllers that become obsolete when another iOS device arrives the next year with an incompatible form factor, rendering those games useless? It's a tricky one and it may trap iOS devices into just doing casual games with advanced graphics.

  • @EricRuna nothing, you just look at graphics. pretty shit for something that clearly had so much work put in to it in my opinion.

  • @fabregas213 It's just a tech demo showing off the potential of what 4g ipod touches and iphones can do. That's why it's free...?

  • Could prove interesting for first-person type role-playing-games... though the fact that your hands break your peripheral attention during game-play is something which would become grating after a prolonged period of time. Impressive tech demo; means nothing of actual human interaction and gameplay... then again, this is Apple... people think the brand shits gold.

  • amg like i talk like that but not as nerdy o.o anyway this looks cool but im not a apple person and its one game im gettin a 3DS

  • If there were any NPCs or action, I bet the framerate would drop like a bomb.

Seriously, until we see any action of the game itself, we won't know what it's capable of.

  • @stulaw90 Like all those radeon 9800 tech demos that looked WAY better than the games I was able to play on my computer.

  • This is how the next Elder Scrolls will look like.

  • very nerdy, typical fanboys who believes in style over sustance. please prove me wrong if otherwise.

  • holy crap they are super nerdy! but its sad i understand everything they said >.<

  • wtf do you do in this game?!?! just walk around?

  • @Sandi315Remade dont think it's a game, it's a demonstration for what you can get out of a iphone

  • @Sandi315Remade its a tech demo. this isnt the game itself

  • OBLIVION ON IPAD!!!

  • This fuckin' looks like a renderes background... Hell :O

  • Weren't they going to put enemies in this app

  • @avenged65 Putting enemies would slow the thing down to unbearable speed. It's a tech demo showing the highest possible quality graphics the iPhone can do. Add enemies, and you have to lower it down a bit for it to run smoothly.

  • wow

  • Apparently Gameloft might be in a partnership with Epic to use this engine.

  • Shooting games do work well on touchscreen phones

  • @dustinwasson Not really. When you are playing a game and not interacting with your OS most of device's resources are used to run the game - most of the system processes would be idling unless they are needed. Therefore no, if you couldn't play cod:mw2 on your laptop it is not XP's fault - it's because your laptop is just too old. About Android code quality... remember that it is based on Linux (and running on Linux kernel), which I wouldn't call resource-wasting or lacking in any other way. :P

  • I love all the comments talking about ANYTHING to do with stupid fucking Android phones. I have to deal with a lot of them where I work, including constant hands-on of the Evo and more recently the Epic, and none of them are ever as smooth or fast as my iPhone 4. Of COURSE you're only gonna get this performance on an iDevice. And this is coming from a Mac HATER- I recognize Apple's domination of the mobile market.

  • damn this sh1t, rage and modern combat 2: black pegasus with fcking game center in multiplayer mode... its like xbox 360 (live) and ps3 (psn) on the go... i think nintendo 3DS, psp 2 and android gaming is very much fcked up!

  • You'll shit brix @ 03:10

  • I hate it when people say shooters don't work on the ipad/iphone! The controls work great, people are just new to it and don't wanna learn it.

  • iPhone=console Android=PC

  • @pabloenis What in the hell are you talking about? Do you realize how much more polished the App Store games are on the iPhone compared to what Android is offering? There is waaay more selection and much more polish with the iPhone. This is laughable

  • @pabloenis NOT TRUE. PC has great games on it's platform, Android doesn't.

  • @pabloenis NOT TRUE. PC has great games on it's platform, Android doesn't.

  • the qualcomm chipsets in the 3gs storm and most androids make it possible

  • this sic very good.

  • @dustinwasson I beg to differ. Android OS is running at least as fast, perhaps even faster. I'm not saying it is actually faster, as I've never done a direct comparison with Apple's latest OS and Google's latest Android OS (I've got a 1.6 phone), but there's more to an OS than the experience of its creator. Just take a look at Windows and where that has been 'lately'.

I don't think Apple has a very big lead on Google here as far as the iPhone OS goes. I do very much like how its able to run 3D.

  • A lot of android wishers in here, well u may have it on android os (or not) it may take a while, for now enjoy ur bejeweled and tetris on ur os (and angry birds lol) while us iphone os users will play this and rage (and sonic 4 too) by the end of the year... I dont hate i just love my phone more than yours.

  • i like the corn keyboard teeshirt,

  • hey sony if an iphone and ipad can have dual stick function....why can't your psp's? are you really that incompetent...

  • it was Rag Doll Kung Fu

  • I just tried to get it, I had been looking forward to it since I heard about it (I know, it was recent, but continuing...), only to figure out it wasn't compatible with my iPod. Ugh.

  • @dustinwasson You do realise you sound like a serious wanker, right? I mean, if you're going to make an argument about why a program won't work correctly, at least cite facts and figures, such as the fact that the iPhone 4G's processor is actually running the same clock speed as the Droid 2 (and running slower than the Evo and Droid X are), has a smaller screen than the Droid 2 (granted only marginally.) Or how about the fact that it easy to port the engine to Android like they did for iOS?

  • Really impressive.

  • Cool video guys !!!

  • most impressive!

  • @dustinwasson

orrrr i could play games on a machine BUILT FOR GAMING, NOT FOR TALKING

  • i would love to see it on a galaxy s phone wonder what would look better :D

  • 3DS will own this shit, would like to see it on droid though though as I am pretty sure androids are more powerful, though I think android OS takes slightly more resources to run

  • Dalvik only got a JIT compiler in 2.2, and it's not terribly mature yet. Android apps do not have to run on the Dalvik VM however -- you can write to the native Linux API too. Epic is doing a proof of concept, and so it makes sense they targeted the platform with the biggest marketing buzz.

  • Once again Epic shows us just how well their engine can be optimized to show amazing graphics on anything short of a rock. I am constantly surprised by what will actually run games like Unreal tournament 3 for example. It's sort of like anti-Crysis XD

Now I'm looking forwards to other developers porting their star engines, if Blizzard manages to get SC2 working on it I might actually buy an iphone XD

  • For those who think this could be done Android, there are some significant hurdles to be surmounted. iOS devices run native applications, which means that Epic can optimize and fine tune their application(s) as much as possible for one platform using the actual code.

Let's leave alone the plethora of Android devices for the moment.

Android runs applications that through a VM. True, it JITs those applications, but JITs are not native optimized code.

  • @dungeonwerks

Erm, JITs ARE native optimised code.

  • @rbscholtus Depends on the JIT. Fast JIT may use linear scan allocation for suboptimal register placement, whereas I could imagine a slower JIT going for the all-out graph analysis.

But with JIT, you're either wasting cycles on recompilation for native instructions, or wasting power with a chip whose microcode interprets whatever language (Java for instance).

  • UNSPEAKABLE BLACK MAGIC!

The only possible explanation for this! And I spoke of the unspeakable magic! Dammit!

  • @Marchochias Sounds like a certain webcomic writer and his godless wizards, who pretty much linked most of us here.

  • @Marchochias Magic isn't real. Obviously Satan has his sulfur addled finger-like appendages in this. You can almost see his venomous tendrils if you look closely enough, perched dominantly at the head of his cathedral. See 2:25

  • I want Morrowind for the iPhone. . .

  • @Spitfirebird Ugh-wha? Morrowind has WAY too many controls to be distilled down to a single-button input method. If they could manage to make it work without clogging the screen with UI buttons or making you navigate maze-like menus in order to get all the functions in, then yeah, I'd love a portable Morrowind. Honestly, though, I'd rather have it on the DS for the physical buttons. Or the 3DS, rather. 'Morrowind 3D' would be pretty awesome.

  • It looks impressive, there's no doubt, but i generally agree with the 'why would i want to play an FPS style game on a touch screen?' It pisses me off how quickly my touch screen gets smears and shit on it during normal use! Thanks, but we've got PSP/DS for gaming on the go and they'll do just fine. Plus, how many serious gamers (whom, if the game is going to be an RPG, are the realistic target market) are going to play on an iPad when they've probably got a pile of consoles or an uber PC?

  • @CaptKrimbo The game itself isn't very interesting, I think. The fact it shows the capabilities of the iPad/Pod and other handheld devices makes it very interesting, though. It means that the next generations of Gaming Handheld have the potential to be Godlike. 3DS aside.

  • @Vartonn I do not understand all the trolling for the 3DS. It's fucking 3D. It's pretty impressive (If not very useful), and the DS has some pretty good games for a handheld, I wanna see what it does with 3D...

  • @CaptKrimbo its an engine, not an FPS. I don't think you get the difference

  • yes I want to play a highly competitive fast-paced shooter on a fucking mobile phone while smearing the screen with my fingers

  • OH BOY! oh wait. It's still a touch screen game. Color me uninterested.

  • Unreal engine on the iphone?!

    Whats next? source engine?

acctualy.. halflife2 on the iphone would be awsome..

  • So they say things like FPSs wouldn't work on a these Apple products, but I'm confused as to why. The iPhone and iPad are both capable of rendering worlds like those in these videos so what's stopping them from working out worlds that were FPS-like? Last of all, all they would need to do is offer an inexpensive peripheral that adds all the necessary FPS buttons and VOILA! Halo-on-the-go, so to speak.

  • Ok that's just a demo, but what are we going to play on it?

  • kinda reminds me of Elder Scroll IV

  • AWESOME!

  • I reckon a 3d adventure game on iphone/pad would be sick, touch interaction with a virtual world...mmmm

  • I reckon a 3d adventure game on iphone/pad would be sick, touch interaction with a virtual world...mmmm

  • Meh

  • There's almost as many nerds here as there are at PAX right now.

  • @maver1ck89 We are all nerds inside! :3

  • Is there any way someone can do an iPad emulator in order to get this for non-iPad users? I mean is it feasible? I would dig that...

  • ...Bowerstone?

Or at the very least, that castle comes straight from Fable II.

  • OpenGL ES 2.0 required, according to my iPod Touch 2nd gen. Interestingly enough, the nokie n900 has that... But there'll probably never be a conversion. Too bad.

  • I'd like to take this back in time to when Goldeneye came out and watch everyone shit their pants to pieces.

  • @ umchoyka yep it will definitely arrive to android maybe next year but ios is killing everybody in gaming...this game and rage just shows you the power of an ios device... while android can enjoy some bejeweled and tetris (oh right u have angry birds today lol) psp2 and 3ds wont have a chance when this kind of games comes to the iphone...

  • @ Hyperdrachen:

Exactly. Give me some buttons on the device, if for nothing but gaming buttons, PLEASE.

  • ah epic games are frickin masters of software i swear. In regards to competitition, phones are still going to have the issue that they have alot of cost put into things that a vanilla gamer couldn't care less about. The 3DS is first and formost a gaming platform, I'll be able to get it for under 200 dollars, even without signing a 2 year contract... Apples offerings especially emphasise thier use as a socialization tool. Touch screen only is certainly elegant but gimme a few real buttons too.

  • But it only has a 1 GHz processor! How can my computer not play such games too?
