lol i love all the people that just cant get over MBV! that sound died along time ago and any band that trys to keep it alive and fresh is cool with me. Lush Slowdive Pale Saints Sonic Youth listen more and you can hear it not just the shoez Gods MBV! and on some level i think they where overated ;D
This is just as good as anything MBV ever did, in my opinion (with the exception of "Lose My Breath"). Easily one of my favorite songs now after only listening to it a couple of times.
lol @ the moustache! Dunno why, but it seems to me so NOT shoegaze! What's more, it even annoys me. I have no idea why, because I do not care about bands' image. But here...come on, moustache! :D
you cant just say "well who cares if they sound like MBV! They were the epitome of the shoegaze sound!" becuase there are lots of shoegaze bands that dont sound EXACTLY like 1 album from some other band.
fuck it, ill listen to them anyway, i just will always have this slight annoyance everytime. Ill show my friends "hey here is a band that sounds EXACTLY like MBV... they are good though, but it makes me not want to listen to them... oh well"
When I first heard fleeting joys, it made me want to listen to MBV... but when I put on loveless, I just wanted to listen to fleeting joys. MBV may have invented it, but these guys took it and RAN.
Yes yes we all know it sounds like MBV. So what? It's amazing - the 2 albums they've done are just STUNNING. They sound beautiful to my old ears!
Better to have some MBV soundalikes (doing it exceedingly well, I might add), than waiting for K Shields to get his arse into gear and release NOTHING!
Kudos to FJs - I really hope they make more albums - this is superb.
I mean, I don't even think they're the "carbon copy," everyone says they are. I mean, it was the first thing I thought when I heard them, but then I realized that MBV (especially Loveless) is just a very, VERY apparent influence on them.
And of course, a lot of shoegaze will sound like MBV. They ARE the benchmark of the genre. Everything within it is compared to them and the many proteges they spawned.
Well said AdmiralEasychord. I compose within this beloved genre as well. Seeing as MBV and perhaps the Cocteau's are the pioneers... other artist music, including my own, can't help but sound similar. They blazed the trail, we follow it.
Also, Rickenbackers are about as popular as the Fenders. Slowdive, Bethany Curve, Ride all used 330's. Telecasters are really popular esp. thinlines. Epi Casino's and Sheratons are popular too. Guy from Alison's Halo uses a ES-335. The list goes on.. Point is that almost any guitar will do, although you don't see man LP's or Shecters haha.

mann these guys are like the best of both worlds-mbv and slowdive that is..i just started listening to fleeting joy and they are blowing my mind.
jcs1234jcs 2 years ago
MBV comparisons aside, these guys have done something new, maybe using MBV as a template? I could care either way.
I'd love to see you guys in Seattle!

any and all guitars can do shoegaze.
After about five or six pedals running at one time your original guitars tone is all but gone. The two J's are just notorious.

what are some common effects used in shoegaze?

Ooh yey, a new Fleeting Joys video... and a bloody marvelous one at that. I hope you guys have got a record deal by now.
Christ... just noticed the 're-release' notice. I might have to shell out £8 for this even though I have no money at all.

It's good to see that Lemmy had an open-mind about contributing his vocals on this one. He's obviously a big Fleeting Joys fan. And I am too...
