you make it all so clear. i don't have a lathe as of yet, and when i will have one i'll owe you a great deal. i'm planning on converting the smallest lathe i can find into a glassblowing lathe, the curlpit is the need for both heads to spin the same speed. i will have to buy a used lathe. do you know any small models that might fit this need? i'm also considering building from scratch. it doesn't have to be so accurate as metalworking lathe.
@catman72 If you are dead set on making your own glass lathe look for a lathe for free on craigs list. You'll need to build a new headstock, tailstock and planetary chucks. Most metal lathe headstocks won't go above 1" diameter. About the only usable parts will be the carriage, Ways, and extra gears. You may be better off calling as many schools as you can and ask to talk to the chemist who has been there the longest and see if they have one in storage.
Every time I watch your film's it makes me wish I had better equipment of my own. I think the cheap little wood lathe I have purchased will sufice at least to my purpose of making pattern's
of cylinders and cases. Let me know what you think about my drawings, they should be in your email. I sent them last night as I was up late.
Very nice video, Thank You.

The lid will eventually slam on your hand/fingers. :P
This lathe was made way before lawsuits were popular.

Is this lathe still for sale? If it is I might be interested. I am in Illinois and I have been looking for a lathe.

I used to have an Invicta lathe which was very similar to this. Good old machines that seldom go wrong!

Thanks.
I'm not familiar with your process. Try to find a small lathe such as an Atlas that you can modify. If you get cheap, you can consider it expendable.

On my old hercus lathe, the lever to engange the feed doesnt always 'catch' when i want it to. This is obviously an issue when cutting threads.
Do you know of any tricks to tighten this up?
