I don't really know why I was surprised at this; after all he did a fantastic Iago in the Zeffirelli film.
This is glorious singing. It seems that despite his illustrious career, Diaz was underestimated. Maybe he should have done more Scarpias, Escamillos and, why not? - Gerards.

Truly remarkable, Justino is truly a bass - baritone in some universe, but here he is singing of all things "Nemico della patria",,, and unless you have mastered this aria,, as a baritone, don't even coment on it!
Justino was the star who inaugurated the new Metrpolitan Opera House in New York back in 1966. He sang the title role in Anthony and Cleopatra! An incredible triumph for someone so young at the time!!

not really sure i'd call this good acting... during his "tutte le genti" at 4:54 he's pointing to the people in the audience like an nsync concert or something. nice singing though..
since when is it a privilege of pop and forbidden to opera singers to address their audience!? Especially when the line is "tutte le genti amar"!!
Is this another unwritten law we missed somewhere between Callas -addressing directly the audiences of Scala more than once- and Pavarotti dedicating arias to women in the audience!? I wont cry for the loss of tight collars. Thank God!
Bravo, sir. I had the honor of meeting you briefly in NY at a party on Riverside Dr. I believe you were a guess to Mr. Michealson. Beautiful singing! Thank you for posting this.
Splendido !!!

A terrific bass-baritone who knew when it was time to quit, unlike a couple who currently sing at the Met - ugh! Plus he looked great.
