Thank you for sharing these wonderful videos . The only thing is I wish I could hear you live :) . Blessing from San Diego have a wonderful day my friend .
Amazing set up. I've never seen anything like this before. The first time I ever heard a recording of Tibetan bowls it blew me away. So interesting to finally see it be done. Thanks.
This is the only kind of thing I want to hear right now. I'm back listening to the Perry sounds every day. Will be ordering a cd or two shortly.
Not that it's my business (or indeed in any way interesting) but I can't believe the comments about your weight!!! Haven't people seen statues of the Buddha? :) Well that's YouTube for you....
Your sounds are really helping me, not only spiritually but culturally. One day I'd like to hear you play live -- I'm in London so I hope there is every chance.
@fourplusseven Hi. Yes this is not a fashion or health vid but rather to do with SOUNDS. If I deem them too inappropriate I remove them. I hope to play in London again sometime but my regular venue is no longer available to me because of a complaint somebody made (not about my weight!). I don't hussle for work but go by word of mouth but that way of being is probably ineffective nowadays.
@mountainbellmusic I'm amazed you can gig at all... looking at your setup, the outlay required to obtain, maintain, and transport your instruments must be enormous!
You used to play at the White Eagle Lodge I believe? What happened -- or is that not a good subject for a YouTube comments page?
I don't know about 'hustling' but you are the most advanced person doing this that I know of. I think it would be nice for people to know about you. People like you are an endangered species. :)
@fourplusseven Well I've been building my collection for 48 years now. Yes I used to play W.E.L London. A woman at HQ took great offence to me giving sound healings there whilst another in London offices convinced her son to have a Sound Healing during which I saw his past life that led to his karmic health conditions and after 45 mins of talking after shared with him. His mother took very great offence and joined the one at HQ for all out attack. The Leader never consulted me. So a total ban!
@mountainbellmusic Well strangeness of that kind aside, I hope another venue might one day be found. I will try to be in touch in a more private format in the next couple of weeks. All best wishes.
@SkinnerSE I derive some comfort from the realisation that your judgemental opinion would be applied to Swami Sivananda, Swami Vivekananda, Haidakhan Baba, Sri Ramana Maharshi, Sogyal Rinpoche, H.H. Dilgo Khyntse Rinpoche, etc and many other saints and sages of a portly constitution.
The man that is playing the bowls is really sick. He should use the vibration to lose weight. He probably has also high glucose levels in his blood and cardiovascular problems.
Happy Easter to you to! Using the vibration to lose weight. Now that is an idea. Next year I could be a multi-millionaire if I get that together what with obesity levels rising all the time! Thanks for the tip I guess people are rather tired of diets and listening to bowls would be a far more attractive proposition for them. Each time I visit my authentic Chinese trained acupuncturist she tells me that my pulses are very good indeed But I guess you know better.
@BIGJOHNTON80 I practice medicine and 95% of people with extra weight have a VERY HIGH posibility to suffer diabetes, specially young people like this guy.
@acuaman42 What has this to do with the music? I am 62 years old - maybe I should say I'm 62 years young? I do not have diabetes. I do not have any health issues. Most doctors I know aren't worth listening to - they operate from a different paradigm. This video is from several years back. How would you use these kind of sounds in your healing practise?
I became unusually aware here of how each pitch is a rhythm from the way they beat together. At 6:38 it is almost waltz time!
What's lovely is how different this is from the other Frank Perry YouTube performance I heard yesterday. I mean a totally different approach and feeling.
I was wondering how much you think in terms of pitches in a western-style manner. The last bowl you struck on this half of the performance actually feels like a cadence.
Well, each bowl produces a number of tones and their relationships lie between the pulses. I do work consciously with the expanded relationships between numbers of bowls - and without reference always keen to exploit contrasts. Many people playing bowls do try to squeeze them into Western scenarios but I seldom consciously try to do this. Rather I try to work organically with the sounds and energies of these ritual instruments from Himalayan regions each with unique overtones. Try my other vids
They seem to speak to one another. Maybe that's heterodyning going on there? Love those very high overtones from these smaller bowls. He changes sticks and it's almost a new bowl! He hits those bigger bowls and it's as if time stands still - amazing contrast to those high ones he started with. I must commend him on his artistry - definitely not entertainment or showbiz! In fact such ideas seem obscene for worship and music are one for this lone traveller (started in 1971 says on his webpage).
Well, it goes back a long, long time. I began my search to create spiritual music in 1965 and I got my first gong in 1968 and my first singing bowls in 1971. I asked myself 'What would the music be like if I were not in the way of it'? What is music like on other planets? back in 1965. I live some answers within the sounds.

You wouldn't think that ringing some bells would be all that compelling, but yet I find myself getting kind of addicted to this. Its relaxing.
