Seems that everyone just brushed over that Ron Paul pretty much said we don't have a moral obligation. So he justified all those examples he brought forth of America standing by while atrocities happened. Ron Paul would have stood by while the holocaust happened.
@Chay216 So i don't care about the holocaust.I don't think we should've even gone to war in europe for any reason,if the Germans did'nt want jews in their country that is their countries right.
2.)Haiti should be forgivin of its foreign dept by all G8 members, the IMF,IDB & World Bank.
3.)The liberal argument for the US' moral commitment to developing countries is laregly based, not asmuch on any inherent obligaton of the US as much as our business & political interests being constantly imposed on poor indigenous nations, without even the slightest regard for their citizens.
i support my immediate family before a homeless shelter, i feed my kid before a bum down the street. The U.S. is borrowing money from china. the u.s. is in debt to china. why are we giving out foreign aid when we can't even fix our own economy
@thedemoboy I know we as in the United States government cannot afford it, that was my point. I've personally donated to both the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
Well good point about those conservative talk hosts. Because if a matter of someone's principle is against foreign aid then it should probably be a daily program rave at least once a week or once a day by all of them about the foreign aid we have been sending to the entire world. Or in context of this new tragedy when they open their mouth Haiti should also be included with all the other countries. Or it will appear that they only have a problem with haiti and not the principle of foreign aid.
YES, They have no right to give away my hard earned dollars. Charity is not charity when it is forced through Taxes Fines or FEES. It is THEFT!!! If you wish to give your own wealth away, have at it, but leave mine alone.
What makes you think the money (from my taxes) are being used for Haiti, but used to finance the CIA to torture people or for the profits of the banksters, just saying it is going to Haiti or some other hell hole? It's just smoke & mirrors for these thieves in DC.
The government should help all hurting people of the earth. Why should a government exist if not to redistribute wealth? Just because a group of industrious producers is able to miraculously feed, house, transport and maintain a nation doesn't mean they should stop the miracle at their border.
The world should be supported and American taxpayers should be quiet and sacrifice, until there is equality for all on the earth.
God looks upon muggers and the specialists controlling drones as equals.
Thanks, as always, SA, for another healthy dose of sanity. Also, same to most of the posters here! Finally, a comments page on a YouTube post with blissfully few "invade the world/invite the world" nitwits! (:=}
True. I guess if the worst thing our government did was help other countries with real relief it wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Our government wastes it and then we send it to another government that spends it on themselves.
When the presidential palace is still kept up but they close a hospital because of a lack of funding?
It's collapsed now, so maybe they'll put the money into the hospital .. ya think? I doubt it. I've already heard the president whining about his precious house.
how long before we have a military base somewhere in Haiti?
what is immoral is providing the poisonous gas and weapons for others to use in exchange for "other" considerations, and then acting shocked and outraged when they do
I have always contended that the government should be OUT of the charity business. If their government or country wants/ needs emergency aid we (the country) could step in to help. BUT, I'm sure that the army of volunteers are out numbering the number of troops there. And if we were allowed to keep the fruits of our labor we (the people) would have more to give for things like this.
Forcing us to give through taxation is NOT charity.
After they declared their independence from France the USA chose to play the role of bill collector to insure that the Haitian pay reparations for their independence. In 1915-1934 there was a two decades long occupation of Haiti by the USA and in 1991 the USA backed a military coup to removed elected president Aristide from power and again in 2004 but this time they kidnapped him and sent him to South Africa followed by the installation of a pro-USA puppet government.
if there was a "check this Box if u are for It " ballot on all our international intervention and aid and people seen what we really support ( worldwide empire, armed forces on every continent, aid to israel/palestein and other countrys, and hundreds more unnecessary expenditures) guaranteed they would not say no to health care ever again
Did he compare what went on in Haiti to healthcare. There is much we can do for Darfur. We could smuggle in weapons that would help the people out greatly. Not one American soldier would ever have to go into fight for Haiti. We cant afford to help Haiti but we could do what we can by donations. 100MILL was give to show the world that we care. I dont agree with not sending anything but I also dont agree with sending that much. I think we should cut that by about 66% and donated it.
That's only because he's a partisan hack whom believes everything Republicans is good and everything Democrats is bad.
If you want to see the so called "conservative" anti-war Hannity look up some of his speechs from the 90s where he bitches about all of the Bill Clinton's wars, most notably Yugoslavia, and about how bringing our soldiers home would be the "moral" thing to do.
"Conservatives" like Hannity find no trouble with socialized security but have trouble with socialized healthcare. No one needs to know more than that - to call them hypocrites.
The best way we can save the world is to provide a good example: a peaceful society based on free markets and free minds that respects their neighbours.
Wow! 3 trillion dollars on Iraq alone? Where the hell did we get the money? Oh wait, we printed it. I forgot. But wait, what about the money we gave to Haiti? Where did it come from? Oh wait, we borrowed it from China. But wait, are they not exactly fond of our foreign policy and could one day challenge the U.S. military? Oh wait, I forgot the politicians don't care (except Ron of course). Strange days indeed.
"America" can and should help Haiti. The government just shouldn't extort the entire population to do so, especially when they've fucked us over so much already. Liberals and neo-cons have a tough time understanding this.
some can afford it. most cant. I am verry much in favor of the private sector helping Haiti. I am also dead against the federals using any of the money they unconstitutionally steal from my paycheck.
When it's not there money.. I don't think they really give a shit. But, Good thing it's not my debt, It's the US Governments debt.

In my opinion, it is a waste of time to help Haiti, bcuz any advances that we could impose on them, would be rapidly undone..
the same goes for Iraq & Afghanistan..
how long will the Western World continue on this path, of attempting to force First World civilization on people who cannot sustain it ?
