wonderful performance. Thank you for posting it. this particular Finale is generally known among musicians as one of the most DIFFICULT to put together. the genius of mozart shows in how effortless the music, characters, development to the climax , the tying up of the complications of the story come together. but in its musical parts, this is a VERY difficult musical section to put together.

I think this production is very fine, but personally, after watching beautiful Renee Fleming as the Countess, this woman doesn't strike me as Figaro's countess. Also this beautiful Susanna is not funny enough for me after Cecilia Bartoli's comedy. My favorit part about this production, for me, is Rinat Shaham as Cherubino. She is so perfect both in voice and appearance.

@mrskinoti I LOVED CHERUBINO too!!!!! I equally loved Susanna though..... a bit "serious" in this part but innocent at the same time when coming out of the room! ^^ the countess is not the best, but not bad at all in my opinion. Finlay is passionate here, but I don't like the slap.

That slap was uncalled for. I also really hate productions where he tries to rape her at this part. It really makes it hard to believe she'd forgive him.

No way. The Countess is supposed to be steadfast and strong, but he is her one weakness. If she takes him back after physical violence, though, she borders on pathetic.

But you forget the Countesses line about women being weak..wielding susannas retort that men are their weakness...she knows his weaknesses- he sleeps around, but they DID love each other once and she is still hoping to regain that happiness she once had with him- she still loves him no matter what

Well, actually, as a woman of those times, she had no choice but to stay with him, even is she had wanted to escape! Still, I agree with you regarding the slap. The Count is a very controlled person - he has to be. He would not lose his temper to this degree.

Generally, I don't like this staging. At the moment, someone is posting excerpts from a production by J. Schaaf; who also deals with the material in a very critical, yet much more convincing manner.
