Training wheels of giving is a twisted way of saying that you are bound to the law. In every case that Jesus taught on giving it was always to give ALL. But it was not giving to a building or the pastor. It was to those who had need. get off percentages!
I give 60% of my income under Grace giving but there is something wrong with what he says. Nowhere is 10% motioned as a minimum in the New Testament. No preacher in the N.T. ever even used those words or came close to using it. I know grace empowers to give. Get rid of the safety nett to make sure bills are paid of 10% my friend.
Wow some great answers on this page...especially gr8name1...I don't see the tithe concept in the early new testament church it is an old testament concept...we are under a new covenant (agreement or contract) the truth is all we have belongs to Jesus we are just managers of it for the sake of the Kingdom of God...Jesus told us WHEN you give to the POOR not if we give to the poor...not when we give to the CHURCH...Jesus wants us to take personal responsibility for those around us...
Grace giving is giving without having been told to do so. Grace giving is what Hebrews7 is talking about when it mentions Abrahams tithe in the Genesis14.YOU are not under a curse or a law to give, but I will tell you the truth when you have the love of God inside of you no one will be able to stop you from giving. 10% is chump change. I am telling you the truth My family give close to 25% of our INCREASE and we are truly truly blessed. PEACE.....:^)
In a society where there is no gov agency to take care of the poor case is different. If someone live in a society where gov takes 12-15% TPS after some hidden taxes on products, charges average of 30-40% on income taxes, which real christian (you know, someone that does not bow to Mammon ...) still has enough to give another 10% and be able to feed his family ???
I'm afraid that what churches have on their minds now is anything but "distributing to the needs of the saints" and more in line with distributing to the wants of the building fund, recreational committee, etc.
Grace giving means giving where and when you see a need you can meet, whether it's at "church" or not; if one is measuring by what is given to the institutional church, it is being measured wrongly. It's not about what's given only at "church". What "the church" considers to be giving now was the farthest from the minds of the NT Christians who were giving to meet the needs of the poor among them.
The kind of giving that God detests is a false report of the gift, and pretensious, flattering, ambitious giving. The tithe belonged to the Levitical order which Christ did not descend from. We give by faith and in love.
Those who are living at or below the poverty level should give as they can. All are to give generously and without compulsion, as they can. That is the kind of giving the Lord blesses. Some give sacrificialy in faith, as the example in the book of acts in the early formation of the church.
Not so! The avrage american christian is swindled out of savings but can barely pay their own bills. God never intended for giving to be a stictly monetery system. Tithes were not taught in the early church untill about 700 A.D., after the church became centralized under the Roman church and the bishop of Rome. Believers give as they can. The rich are commanded to give more and carry the grater financial burden of the church.
WHY HASN'T ANYONE COMMENTED THIS? Thank you Randy, although I think I heard Hank H. say the same thing on Bott Radio, YES, he quoted you. I am even more convicted than I was when I found out the truth on my own. It's better understood heard than it is read. Add this to your note Luke 11:42. Great message!
If you want to talk 'training wheels' why not just do it all then, Why only with the tithing law and not the rest of the law?

If we can preach grace radical enough we will see the results of GRACE GIVING.

I do know that when a person is already giving joyfully as much as they can and a pastor keeps harping on "tithing" it is a real Spirit killer.
