I remember some years ago my cousin (a linux geek) and I were talking about not being able to build your own Mac. He called Mac the snobs of the computer world. And at the time I suppose this was true. But Now this Hackintosh stuff is so amazing. I am going to turn my HP Pav dv6000 into an OSX Hack and I want to build a zoom zoom desk top. Cause I can't afford a Mac Pro either. Thanks for the Vid. Very well done.
***SPOILER*** Only 2 minutes is actually about building the computer, and the video will be paused several times, so the uploader can remind you to subscribe.
The GTX 460 takes up 2 slots, right? and there are 3 Express slots in a row, so one of those is going to have to be left unused, right? So why did you get a board with 4 Express slots if you can't use all of them at once?
And, would it be possible to dual boot Windows and Mac from a single hard drive? If not, then could I do 2 separate hard drives? I want a Mac machine for video editing, but I also need a new rig. I figured it would be best to kill two birds with one stone here and save some $.

How do you get the gtx 460 to work so perfectly, I have had a go but my specs dont seem to want to work. GA-P55-UD5, Core i5 2.80GHz (1st Generation), 4GB DDR3 ram, Gainward GTX 460 768mb. I can get the card to work but I have to boot with 'PCIRootUID=1' and I've tried every single sound driver and no luck, even voodoo HDA. I'm on 10.6.7 Also I cant boot without iBoot otherwise my USB's and card won't work. My sound codec is the realtek 889a.
Nice nearly identical setup to mine i noticed your ram is at 1333mhz and you said you had 1600mhz just curious if didnt change it in your bios or what also does your hackintosh sleep?
@perraulie26 yeah it was running at 1333mhz but with a little hack from nofilmschool i got it up to full stride, didnt really improve my benchmark that much though, yes she sleeps fine, i can press the power button on my case and that puts it to sleep for just go through the apple menu and hit sleep. and it wakes up with the mouse too
Do you know you have a Dutch name?? It means something like this: Fromthesoundthatducksmake. Im not kidding :P Nice hackintosh. I have the same motherboard.
maaaaaan im so jealous! those ssds are smoking fast! im building mine with almost if not exact specs! im so excited! I have a question, i wanna run 2 gtx 460s ddr5 1gb im not a gamer but i run 4 1920X1200 monitors, from ur experience u think multiple displays should work right? and also wat did u use under multibeast to get ur gtx 460 working?
@iPOwLinda@iPOwLinda yeah, multiple gFX cards should work, i wouldn't use the gtx 460's though, unless you have already bought them, they are difficult to use, and i had to do a lot of work arounds. I would recommend following a guide made by nofilmschool, they show exactly step by step how to build the computer i made, and they show imlutibeast settings etc. they also have a list of good gfx cards that work, let me know how yours goes!
Ok cool ya im checkin out the site sight now, ok so wat cards do u recommend ?
heres my setup, i run 3 Apple 23" aluminum cinema displays @ 1920X1200 and occasionally I hook up my 42" lcd 1080p tv to watch my bluray rips. Believe it or not im running all this monitors from a 09 mac mini! and it lags it man, they video card is only 256mb and is integrated. i was lookin @ the xfx 5770 that has 4 display ports! u think it will handel all from 1 card?
@iPOwLinda you would have to read reviews on other peoples experiences with it, i personally havent tried more than two monitors with my hackintosh, so i wouldn't be able to tell you if it worked or not. and i have no idea about that card either. sorry. do some research. under i multibeast i did nothing, i just had to install cracked nvidea drivers and i always have a vid playing in the background. Check other hackintosh sites for lists of cards that are known to be compatible and use those
awesome. you might want to get a cpu cooler though. i got the same board and cpu. 30 dollar cooler master hyper 212 plus brings mine down by 12 C. and its real quite. anyway, awesome job. i had problems with iboot for some reason. i use kakewalk. so far so good... if i have problems i might try iboot. you''res seems pretty stable. :)
@AhYaOk really, my average cpu temp is like 54% haha, and when i render 3d stuff it works its way up to like 80. i usualy open the side of my case and have a desk fan, i am to cheap to buy a real cooler lol i should though
I BUILD IT !!! WHOOHOO !! AT IT RUNS LIKE A DREAM XD ! go watch on my site. im working with phostoshop n illustrator. Sytem spec: Asus P7P55D E PRO, i7 870-2.93 GHz, 4 GB Ram, GTX 480, im using the bluetooth mac keyboard with the blutooth stick. I used the new iBoot, and run the newest Multibeast - easybeast + ehternet + woodo 2.5.6 or something like that .
i think im going to order the p55 board with this CPU. im working as a graphicdesigner. so CS5 has to work 100% with no lags. Is youre system OK? how about ur CS5, CAD, Finalcut everything OK? is it stable? when yes im going to order a Gigabyte P55 or X58A
@sounce311 hmm. well how good are you with computers. because the honesty of this is, the computer is only as stable as you are patient, if you are willing to spend the time to get all the work arounds right and have a stable system going then its worth it. I use my system everyday for video work and i have no problems with it because i know it inside and out. My brother for example can only manage smoothly on my computer if i am in the house so he can ask me quesitons if he runs into stuff.
@sounce311 but short answer, yes these systems can be stable, just spend time research and doing it right the first time, dont cut corners. I have cs5 master collection installed and i havent had any problems with it what so ever. IT is intensely fast and its hard to go back to anything slower. Good luck with your build and do your research!
@matt56037 new stuff is always coming out, it feels like the second you buy it it is obsolete. I wish i had known and waited, but you know what, oh well, the world moves on. For the doc i had found this doc organizer icon pac, which is just a bunch of these blank, un-openable icons that i can drag anywhere on my doc. pretty cool eh
@GermanHDTutorial yeah, some of that wont mean much unless you have read about alot of the stuff, if u dont know what a dsdt file is, or what imultibeast is or even wear to get all this, you can shoot me a message on youtube
@theangelswithwings the processor should be fine, just make sure you can find a good dsdt file for imultinbeast on the tonymac page. if you can the mobo should be great
Hi, first I would like to say that your system looks very nice! But I also have a question. I saw that you have a gtx 460, and I have too! But I cannot get it to work. I am stuck at a low resolution without QE/CI! How did you get your graphic card working? thanks in advance!
@18apen I am running the cracked nvidia drivers realesed by tonmacx86. i am upgraded to 10.6.5 and have those installed. you can find them in nofilmschools guide to building a hackintosh in the install os section, or find them right on the page. I was stuck there too. I also run a little video in the background just so that the card doesnt freeze like some people have been experiencing with the gtx4xxx cards
Amazing Hackintosh. I built mine on sorta a low budget because I was afraid if something went wrong with the whole process, it would be a big waste of money.
I used a simple AMD Quad Core 2.9 GHz ($100) with 2GB of DDR3 Memory ($50) a 320GB Samsung HD (? its from my old computer) and a GeForce 9800GT ($115).
It works amazingly on OS 10.6.5 and I couldn't be happier. The computer is fine for what I do and I've been running CoD 4 (Mac) on High settings :P
@kikeronaldo Plus, if you don't know much about parts and / or computers, don't even bother. Something will be likely to mess up, and then it's a huge waste of time and effort. You can look at guides like osx 86 or message people that have built Hackintoshes (including me, although I used budget parts so it's not the best hackintosh).
@kikeronaldo i went into this project not knowing a whole lot about computers, i was just really ambitious and read alot , and alot of forums for advice. the two that i talked about were great and if you just follow one of their builds you should be golden.
@kikeronaldo follow the exact builds of someone else who got it to work. like life hacker has 8 steps to building a hackintosh, follow his guide exactly and you will be golden, tonmacx86 has some great stuff. and so does loads of other places, you have to look around
@WiZmEn1998 sorry i dont want to make a tutorial because i believe i am not experienced enough to cover all the angles. you can find other great tutorials online at like nofilmschool . com or "life hacker"
@TheHolyThief if you are smart about it and take it slow you should be ok, when you are building a computer i would say its 90% necessary to have technical ability and the capability to problem slove without getting frusturated. It hardly EVER works right the first time so you have to be mentaly prepared haha. if you follow an online guide i am suer you will do fine, i know LIFE HACKer has a good one. This was my first computer build and i did all right took about 1 1/2 hours
Im skinned, I think ill stick to it; loop vid, n cross fingers 4 upgrade;)
Best card under 180$ w OpenGL4, DirectX11.. as to compensate that FCP n AE would perform bettr w more cores.
I edit n do postpro. Also design, web anim. n music, on a dying PMG5 Quad and a useless PBG4.. Im building a lesser system than urs, w rescued items, n will cost me more than all ur setup. Need it desperatelly but dont want 2much hassle!
What u use and how it performs? Could u plz post - xbench?
How did u manage to solve the freezes with the GeForce GTX 460!!
i want to make a cheaper system here unfortunatelly memory and parts are a lot more expensive... its based on an i7-870 2,93 and an asus motherboard...
and advice would be grand an PNY GeForce GTX 460 - 1 GB GDDR5.. any help???
@txusic PART 1.well for now i just open a video in VLC or (another media player) and set it too loop. I then minimize the video and just do my stuff. only takes up like 1% of my cpu anyways, works great. havent had any freezing when i remember to turn it on. Thats the only thing i would change about this build. i would have used a 2xxx card instead. oh well. As far as the Card you asked about, reviews seem good, but you will most likely get freezes with current drivers. use a gtx 2xx card
@txusic PART 2 ... if you dont mind keeping a video going in the background the gtx 460 should be fine. And there should be drivers coming out in the future so yeah, i see it as a minor problem now, freeked me out a bit at the beginning though, take care hope that helped, send me a message if you have more questions.

@TheGregGeek Feels great eh? to have this amazing computer and not have to pay as much as the other apple finatic's in the world and still have the opportunity to upgrade.
@VanderKwaakFILMS It's feels excellent. I mean, don't get me wrong: Buying a Mac Pro and not having to hassle with the installation is great if you have the money. But I don't. So I'll stick with my beast of a machine that i made for A TON less and with better specs. =D
@keridudouze no :) i dont have that much money, its just a nock off "LCD view finder" that i found on ebay for 50$ works great. If you are interested in that kind of stuff, subscribe i got alot more videos comming....

@popkraft i want to build one but how i can know wich motherboard, processor etc are compatible?
kikeronaldo 1 year ago
@kikeronaldo Depends on the program you will use to install the OS disc like iDeneb, etc.
iDeneb allows AMD, but most others say Intel.
popkraft 1 year ago
@kikeronaldo Plus, if you don't know much about parts and / or computers, don't even bother. Something will be likely to mess up, and then it's a huge waste of time and effort. You can look at guides like osx 86 or message people that have built Hackintoshes (including me, although I used budget parts so it's not the best hackintosh).
popkraft 1 year ago
@kikeronaldo i went into this project not knowing a whole lot about computers, i was just really ambitious and read alot , and alot of forums for advice. the two that i talked about were great and if you just follow one of their builds you should be golden.
VanderKwaakFILMS 1 year ago
@VanderKwaakFILMS but where i can find information?
kikeronaldo 1 year ago
@kikeronaldo follow the exact builds of someone else who got it to work. like life hacker has 8 steps to building a hackintosh, follow his guide exactly and you will be golden, tonmacx86 has some great stuff. and so does loads of other places, you have to look around

Advice?
I want to do this build in January, but I've never built a computer before. Should I trust myself enough to do this or try a cheap build first?
TheHolyThief 1 year ago

Could u plz post - xbench?

hey mate beautifull setup, great video n tune!!
How did u manage to solve the freezes with the GeForce GTX 460!!
i want to make a cheaper system here unfortunatelly memory and parts are a lot more expensive... its based on an i7-870 2,93 and an asus motherboard...
and advice would be grand an PNY GeForce GTX 460 - 1 GB GDDR5.. any help???
txusic 1 year ago

I just built a computer exactly like this
very powerful for a fairly cheap price.

My system is nearly identical to yours and I just got everything up and running perfectly! Tonymacx86 really does help A LOT!

@TheGregGeek Feels great eh? to have this amazing computer and not have to pay as much as the other apple finatic's in the world and still have the opportunity to upgrade.
VanderKwaakFILMS 1 year ago
@VanderKwaakFILMS It's feels excellent. I mean, don't get me wrong: Buying a Mac Pro and not having to hassle with the installation is great if you have the money. But I don't. So I'll stick with my beast of a machine that i made for A TON less and with better specs. =D
