Yes the ribbon is finally here :) I also use iWork but office for Mac really needed an upgrade. If everyone uses Mac around you then use iWork, if your the only Mac in a Windows network then use Mac Office 2011 :)
for all those with little money, it is a big help. for u rich people, u don't care. and professionals who are doing work like publishing require extensive tools then go ahead and buy Microsoft Office. i would say at least 90 percent of people out there don't need Microsoft Office.
do u ever use at least 90 percent of the features in Microsoft Office? i doubt it. what do u use on Microsoft Office for? are u working in publishing job?
God, not the ribbon! The great thing about the Mac is that everything has the same interface - menu at the top of the screen. I don't mind some shortcuts or optional toolbars, so long as I can turn all that junk off. The ribbon is a complete pain in the ass that breaks the Mac model and eats up screen space.
Does Office 2011 remember Window Placement? Office 2008 never will open fully maximized, it always leaves a little screen space around the top and sides.
I just got the beta, the messenger isn't much different from the old messenger 8 beta for mac :/ You cant even change your own display name. I thought it would have the same feature as Windows Live Messenger but it doenst. Oh well, its still in beta, who knows, maybe the stable version will have even messenger plus plugins. (I HOPE!!)
I was thinking of torrenting this but since you said its almost out of beta, I guess I'll just wait a little bit. I was really hoping for the interface that the 2010 version on windows has but oh well.
@helpfulmactips2010 Not if you know how to protect it. In almost two years since I got my new laptop, I have caught a virus only once because I hit the wrong button. And also, if you want to be virus free on a PC you can always choose Linux. Which is cheaper than a Windows PC, ofc.
@helpfulmactips2010 Sigh that is because compared to macs pcs are much more widely used macs dont get viruses because people who create viruses want as much information as possible. Macs are expensive beyond reason. Even parts to upgrade macs are expensive. Yes they are beautiful and apple is uniform. But they simply aren't better then a pc.
@lodes0 I said that the Office interface does not match Mac OS, and even in Windows, it's hard to use. 2 years of use, and I still don't know where to change many things.
I really appreciate Apple for their philosophy, but sometimes they are more annoying than Microsoft. When I say that I think of iPhone, iPad, expensive iMac.
But somehow, I get them, in the sense that they offer some kind of premium computers.
@lodes0 Different market niche. People who buy Macs are doing so to suit their own interest -- design / build quality, preference for OS X, whatever. Gaming is just a little thing on the side to them.
Used to build desktops to game, typing this on a MacBook Pro. I love Windows and have used it with very few problems ever since Windows 98, mostly because I don't use computers like an idiot. And I like OS X too. Equal opportunity techie.
