  • I love this guy so much, he's my major inspiration to play guitar :)

  • He is simply the best !!! great vid wtg... johnny marr

  • No need to make expensive music videos. Its more than enough watching Marr with his guitar.

  • Increìble que una melodìa tan sencilla pueda tener tanta fuerza y sumando la letra......

  • Johhny Marr, guitar legand, he's been one of my heroes since i was a teenager and first heard The Smiths.

This song is amazing and Johnny can sure sing........love it!

  • <3 Johnny!!! Love the whole album. Pure brit pop.

  • reminds me of primal scream a bit tbh for some reason

  • I think i love Marr a tad bit too much <3

  • Oh man ... if Morrissey sang this shit ... I would orgasm. Marr is brilliant.

  • I didn't know he could sing like this! Imagine Johnny and Morrissey singing a duet. I wish they did that in the Smiths era..

  • underrated guitarist

  • Great cheekbones. Great talent.

  • is this a cover?

  • Close your eyes and listen to his voice. Are you hearing what I'm hearing? Sounds soooo much like Jackson Browne!

  • How it would sound with Morrissey? Bloody morbid as usual but johnny marr is great on his own.

  • I can only imagine how this would sound with Morrissey... (*sigh)

  • Johnny Marr, thank you for giving us your music. I would not want to live in this world without knowing what you communicate - truly beautiful beyond words. I guess that's why you are a musician. LOVE.

  • GREAT GREAT SONG

  • Very good performance

  • he's always looking stunning ;)

  • He makes me think about "Inoran" hes japanese

  • song of the day!i really love johnny marr....whoever he picks to play with is also RAD. really like the lyics....esp "you can walk right back where you started". just to be annoying i think i will post 'em!!! love!

  • I heAR johnny marr has a new band now

  • @bns78123 modest mouse

  • The layering of guitars in this track to build the mood is up there with Marr's best. He should really put himself in front of the mike a bit more based on this effort. Just brilliant.

  • HELL YES!!!

  • Boomslang is hella underrated... I love that album. Neer thought JM could fill the role of a front-man so well-- maybe not the most natural role for him, but goddamn... I saw them in SF and he kicked-ass! Thanks Johnny for everything! Impeccable taste, style, songs, playing, production--EVERYTHING!

  • So damn good. Soungs like 90s Britpop. Where have you been in the 90s Mr. Marr. You could have been the Bandleader in this time of hype and glamour of british pop music but you were not there....

  • I knew Morrissey could sing, but Marr, you have stunned me!!!

  • Clutch tune by Johnny!

  • Wow.... I found a new song to like today...thanks for sharing, it made my morning!

  • Oh, Hell yes!!!

  • Director: Johnny, let's make a video for Down on the Corner...

Johnny: We aint got a lot of budget mate

Director: Awe well just sit there and play some guitar - that's all people really want to see anyway

    Johnny: Sounds bout right then

    :)

Best song Marr has ever written solo in my opinion...

  • AWESOME!!!!! 5 STARS!!!! Get up off the ground Back on your feet It's easily done She didn't mean to hurt no one You can walk right back where you started Friends moved on, it's all gone wrong Walk on down that street where we need you Down on the corner Where there's nothing to do 2:45 AWESOME GUITAR!!!
  • Sounds like Wonderwall.Same chords!

  • Fuckin' lovin' it man!

Tim Burgess feel to the vocals

  • @fightinfarrell in deed

  • This man is simply gorgeous, doesn't he ever get old???

It's nice to see him close up throughout a whole video for once. Thanks for posting a nice Marr feast!

  • why have i not heard this song before?

  • Johnny, you're still the best.

  • Comment removed

  • WOW, I didn't realize Johnny had such a good voice. I obviously knew he was amazing on the guitar, but this is really good. I think I am going to pick up his album.

  • this album is pretty badass actually

  • Super badass

  • Love it!! I never get tired of this one ; )

  • Morrissey and Marr should be together now... D:

  • Johnny has a really good voice. Why hasn't he sung much before this?!

  • Tim Burgess or what. Loved The Smiths 'n all that, Morrissey and Marr do equal Lennon & McCartney. This shows that Mr. Marr has still got it.

  • davidander.....that is so weird, I was just on marr's myspace listening to this tune thinkin....morrissey and marr together were as good as Lennon and McCartney.

  • Soulful, simple, driving, lush and layered. Classic Johnny Marr song structure and guitar playing - one of his best.

  • .....and sounds like Robbie Williams lol

    Quality song mind

  • he looks like noel.g...?

  • well, really, noel gallagher looks like him, not the other way around :)

  • Nice tune, nice harmonies......crank it

  • I blast this when I drive in the convertible. Yes, I'm one of those people. In fact, I crank up the entire cd. Woohoo!

  • Great tune. Amazing guitar work. Love this song.

  • Johnny Marr is indeed God. Trufax.

  • gr8 music...

    ok vid...

not boring.... all marr ... not boring

    at all

  • gr8 music....boring vid

  • i was entertained

  • I'm sure were, I'm sure you were

  • can anybody help me get this song off itunes? i type in johnny marr, nothin, i type in down on the corner, loads but no johnny marr?

  • try searchin the healers

  • this song is excellent

  • Marr is just great! period

  • Tuneee by proper legend

  • It really is not chord progressions that are so important. You can have a hundred chords in a song and still be shit at playing guitar or you don't have your own personal style and force out some huge bit of pretentious music, which really has nothing to it. I think it was a bit like that with John Squire. Great guitarist, too. "I'm not trying to sound 65 years old... it's not this retrospective thing. Listen to John Squire on The Second Coming and you can almost her the taste barriers go up.

  • He's become too obsessed with this idea of what a good guitar player should sound like. He's lost the plot really, hasn't he?" <- I totally agree with that.

  • no i noticed ...

    what does it matter?

  • am i the only one who noticed hes not singing in sync with the song?

  • such a great song

    such a great talent

    bring back the healers....

  • Typical Marr brilliance. I love his chord progressions. Haunting.

  • His voice sounds like 'Take That'.

  • great song

the lyrics are very uplifting :D

  • all mancs

  • that does not sound like johnnys voice at all.

  • it was good to see johnny play a different style of guitar and a different style of song rather than playing jangly guitar which is what he was kinda stuck in because of the smiths. I think this album really set him free.

  • i love this drama! all the marks chip in because their own lives are worth shit...please go on....it is almost as good as Days of Our Lives!!!!

  • 219770, have you heeard John Squires solo album? soundes like Dylan havin a sh@t whilest constapated!

  • Yeah, I have heard it. It's not particularly great, but the mantle of the Roses was always hanging over Squire. He can't sing - though that never stopped Brown!!

  • go from musician/song writer to musician/song writer/singer then comment!

tryin playin this song in time while singing, fuuckin hard!!!

  • I actually thought he has a pretty good voice...

    ;)

  • mravihosaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • maravihosaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I'm so glad this isn't a CCR cover, I saw the title of the video, and nearly had a heart attack. This is a decent song, a little bit is left to be desired, though.

  • I'm in love with him.

  • haha yeh he's a really nice guy, worth talking to, i'm really good friends with his daughter sonny

  • johnny marr - guitargod and king

    of melodies

  • haha yeh he's a really nice guy, worth talking to, i'm really good friends with his daughter sonny

  • cool =)

  • that's awesome, his son nile was on my football team for a few years, also a talented guitar player.. very modest people

  • does anyone know make or model of this acoustic?

  • Tunage

  • omg, i looooove him.

  • @xgreenymeex me too ...i hope God lets me meet him in heaven

  • part of the brilliance of marr is that he plays stuff that isn't mind-blowing in terms of technique, you think, "well, anybody can play that stuff." but then you try to play like him, and then you realize that his sound is so personal to his own style that you will never be able to play like that. i think that part of what makes it so crazy is that he doesn't force the notes out.

  • Yeah, I totally agree with you. It's kind of similar to what Noel Gallagher said about him. Ah, that man. :D "All the stuff they've done they've released, which means that they've never been shit."

  • @MicDollaBIll : in deed!

  • dude you obviously dont play guitar because he is a brilliant guitarist he is unique and very technical theres more to playing guitar then just having loads of fx and whacking out solo's you are a jackass

  • yeah, he was great in the smiths.

  • I wish the healers did more songs as good as this.

  • Hehe. Hilarious. You have NO idea who this man is, do you?

  • you'd jam with him? whoa lucky him

  • 219970 I have to agree with you 100%

  • Well said!

  • Hey 219970, you're an idiot if you think music is about chord progressions. Bob Dylan's songs have some of the most simple chord progressions ever recorded, but he could sure write a fucking song. And Johnny Marr is a fine singer.

  • Bob Dylan's songs are amazing because of his songwriting (ie. words) ability, rather than the use of three chords. But sure, I know what you mean. The point I was making is that musically compared to a lot of the Smiths' stuff, which was complex and intricte, this song is pedetrian, in my opinion. I don't like the words, they are juvenile, and I don't like Marr's voice - it's so-so, but nowhere near his ability on the guitar. That's all. I'm not an idiot for having a different opinion to you.

  • It's something completely different. I mean... I really love a lot of Smiths songs, some especially because of the guitar. In fact, I wouldn't like most of their songs if they had a shit guitar on it. But of course it's the same with Morrissey. ^^ You can't really compare the Healers to The Smiths. I think this here is rather adorable. Johnny's voice is and the songs are rather adorable too. Ah, the lyrics... I think that is what I like least about the songs, but they're kind of adorable, too.

  • You state these things as if they are fact. Many fans and critics regard Morrissey as having a fantastic voice, with phrasing and emphasis that is unique, and your critique of the lyrics is poor - Panic has many other excellent lines apart from those, and there are another 80 songs or so apart from This Charming Man, of different styles, themes, topics, moods....that's why the Smiths are still so revered today, lyrically and musically, by myriad critics and fans alike, and other bands too.

  • If I'm not mistaken This song is written and preformed by Johnny Marr? So why go on about a guy he played with in a different band many years ago?

  • Because music is about emotions and the name Johnny Marr will always be linked to the Smiths and therefore Morrisey, because that band defined both artists' careers, certainly Marr's, whose work since doesn't compare.

  • It's a cover by Creedence Clearwater revival, though this is much better. As a Smiths fan I'm amazed by how good Johnny's voice is. I just presumed that he couldn't sing at all. There is little or no backing vocals on Smiths songs

  • Its not a cover version.

  • how is this a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival??? it sounds nothing like it you fruit and nut bar!!

  • I think it's sort of disingenuous to say that this is much better, when clearly you haven't heard the original of that song since this isn't a cover?

  • Nah...totally different song!

  • not fare that youve blocked this comment can they not have there own opinion?

  • Johnny Marr is my favourite all-time guitarist, along w/ AC/DC's Angus Young. He should be part of this Guitar Hero team.

  • Johnny Marr is truly a living legend. Met him once when he played The Troubadour in 2002 in L.A. - he signed all my cassette covers, from the Smiths to Electronic to The The. True, totally cool guy. Even gave me a free ticket for the show because it was sold-out. Class act & brilliant guitarist.

  • Pretty sure it's barre chords actually. I figured it out like this:

Fsus4 pull off onto F (A shape at 8th fret), Ab (E shape at 4th fret), Cm (Am shape at 3rd fret), Bb (A shape at 1st fret).

The song's alright, have to say I think Marr never quite reached the level he was at with The Smiths thereafter however.

  • One album and that was it. Now paying the rent with Modest Mouse. Come back Mr Marr....

  • oooh johnny!

  • actually the capo is 3rd fret sorry

  • the chords for this song are D, C, Am, G, Capo 8th fret, oh and johnny marr is probably the best guitarist ever

  • can someone tell me how he ended up with modest mouse? his style is so different from theirs.

  • Well Modest Mouse was having an audition for a guitarist in their band before they made their new album and they were asking for a Johnny Mar-esque guitarist and Johnny himself showed up XD

  • It would be a big reunion, but the reunion of the century imo would be the stone roses(even though thats extremely unlikely)

  • Nobody can play quite like Johnny Marr can. Amazing song. Mindblowing guitar skills.

  • This music is tonic.

  • great....!!

  • Johnny marr is really good

  • Harika..

  • I always liked Johnny's guitar playing since The Smiths.

  • I always thought it was best in The Smiths.

  • He does a great version of this on Neil Finn's "7 Worlds Collide" CD/DVD

  • There is not enough Johnny Marr on youtube......love it!

  • i agree..!

  • I agree. There's not enough Johnny Marr anywhere. Best unadorned strumming ever.

  • does anyone have the chords?? ^^

  • you suck gomezminnie

  • tan fan.:! de los smiths,;! como de johnny marr.:! the best guitar-!_ xD-

  • great song jm.the legend keeps fireing them out.

  • Johnny Marr is so good. My mom was a big fan and now I'm the biggest fan in the family.

  • tabs anyone??

  • Capo 3rd fret - D, F, Am, G - I'll leave the rest to you.

  • such a good album, so under rated. The harmonies at the end after the piano bridge are sick.

  • great tune. can't believe it was overlooked upon release. glad to see he's back in the spotlight again. a living legend

  • better than wonderwall...j.m and healers are one of the best british rock bands...not so famous, but great

  • Simply Fantastic.

  • I love this song!

  • Johnny Marr is my incredible.
