Johnny Marr, thank you for giving us your music. I would not want to live in this world without knowing what you communicate - truly beautiful beyond words. I guess that's why you are a musician. LOVE.
song of the day!i really love johnny marr....whoever he picks to play with is also RAD. really like the lyics....esp "you can walk right back where you started". just to be annoying i think i will post 'em!!! love!
The layering of guitars in this track to build the mood is up there with Marr's best. He should really put himself in front of the mike a bit more based on this effort. Just brilliant.
Boomslang is hella underrated... I love that album. Neer thought JM could fill the role of a front-man so well-- maybe not the most natural role for him, but goddamn... I saw them in SF and he kicked-ass! Thanks Johnny for everything! Impeccable taste, style, songs, playing, production--EVERYTHING!
So damn good. Soungs like 90s Britpop. Where have you been in the 90s Mr. Marr. You could have been the Bandleader in this time of hype and glamour of british pop music but you were not there....
AWESOME!!!!! 5 STARS!!!! Get up off the ground Back on your feet It's easily done She didn't mean to hurt no one You can walk right back where you started Friends moved on, it's all gone wrong Walk on down that street where we need you Down on the corner Where there's nothing to do 2:45 AWESOME GUITAR!!!
WOW, I didn't realize Johnny had such a good voice. I obviously knew he was amazing on the guitar, but this is really good. I think I am going to pick up his album.
davidander.....that is so weird, I was just on marr's myspace listening to this tune thinkin....morrissey and marr together were as good as Lennon and McCartney.
It really is not chord progressions that are so important. You can have a hundred chords in a song and still be shit at playing guitar or you don't have your own personal style and force out some huge bit of pretentious music, which really has nothing to it. I think it was a bit like that with John Squire. Great guitarist, too. "I'm not trying to sound 65 years old... it's not this retrospective thing. Listen to John Squire on The Second Coming and you can almost her the taste barriers go up.
He's become too obsessed with this idea of what a good guitar player should sound like. He's lost the plot really, hasn't he?" <- I totally agree with that.
it was good to see johnny play a different style of guitar and a different style of song rather than playing jangly guitar which is what he was kinda stuck in because of the smiths. I think this album really set him free.
Yeah, I have heard it. It's not particularly great, but the mantle of the Roses was always hanging over Squire. He can't sing - though that never stopped Brown!!
I'm so glad this isn't a CCR cover, I saw the title of the video, and nearly had a heart attack. This is a decent song, a little bit is left to be desired, though.
part of the brilliance of marr is that he plays stuff that isn't mind-blowing in terms of technique, you think, "well, anybody can play that stuff." but then you try to play like him, and then you realize that his sound is so personal to his own style that you will never be able to play like that. i think that part of what makes it so crazy is that he doesn't force the notes out.
Yeah, I totally agree with you. It's kind of similar to what Noel Gallagher said about him. Ah, that man. :D "All the stuff they've done they've released, which means that they've never been shit."
dude you obviously dont play guitar because he is a brilliant guitarist he is unique and very technical theres more to playing guitar then just having loads of fx and whacking out solo's you are a jackass
Fair enough this isnt his most technical piece of playing but listen to the Smiths back catalogue and you'll realise just how amazing a guitar player he is. Just like Hendrix he has feeling as well as technique which is a rare balance.

Unless you are being ironic and if you are, then fair play as you have fooled me, then you have just shown your total lack of musical taste: this is utterly turgid, plodding, very basic music with one main chord progression. Plus, Marr cannot sing.
The Smiths were and are still rated well well well above this lot.
Hey 219970, you're an idiot if you think music is about chord progressions. Bob Dylan's songs have some of the most simple chord progressions ever recorded, but he could sure write a fucking song. And Johnny Marr is a fine singer.
Bob Dylan's songs are amazing because of his songwriting (ie. words) ability, rather than the use of three chords. But sure, I know what you mean. The point I was making is that musically compared to a lot of the Smiths' stuff, which was complex and intricte, this song is pedetrian, in my opinion. I don't like the words, they are juvenile, and I don't like Marr's voice - it's so-so, but nowhere near his ability on the guitar. That's all. I'm not an idiot for having a different opinion to you.
It's something completely different. I mean... I really love a lot of Smiths songs, some especially because of the guitar. In fact, I wouldn't like most of their songs if they had a shit guitar on it. But of course it's the same with Morrissey. ^^ You can't really compare the Healers to The Smiths. I think this here is rather adorable. Johnny's voice is and the songs are rather adorable too. Ah, the lyrics... I think that is what I like least about the songs, but they're kind of adorable, too.

I'm very aware of that, however, the Smiths have Morrissey's uninspiring drone of a voice and his erratic and idiotic character. The lyrics to the songs have nothing about them either, I mean, how many times do we have to hear him repeat the line 'Hang the DJ'? And why must we have 'This Charming Man' played like it changed music?
You state these things as if they are fact. Many fans and critics regard Morrissey as having a fantastic voice, with phrasing and emphasis that is unique, and your critique of the lyrics is poor - Panic has many other excellent lines apart from those, and there are another 80 songs or so apart from This Charming Man, of different styles, themes, topics, moods....that's why the Smiths are still so revered today, lyrically and musically, by myriad critics and fans alike, and other bands too.
Because music is about emotions and the name Johnny Marr will always be linked to the Smiths and therefore Morrisey, because that band defined both artists' careers, certainly Marr's, whose work since doesn't compare.
It's a cover by Creedence Clearwater revival, though this is much better. As a Smiths fan I'm amazed by how good Johnny's voice is. I just presumed that he couldn't sing at all. There is little or no backing vocals on Smiths songs
Johnny Marr is truly a living legend. Met him once when he played The Troubadour in 2002 in L.A. - he signed all my cassette covers, from the Smiths to Electronic to The The. True, totally cool guy. Even gave me a free ticket for the show because it was sold-out. Class act & brilliant guitarist.
Well Modest Mouse was having an audition for a guitarist in their band before they made their new album and they were asking for a Johnny Mar-esque guitarist and Johnny himself showed up XD

Pretty sure it's barre chords actually. I figured it out like this:
Fsus4 pull off onto F (A shape at 8th fret), Ab (E shape at 4th fret), Cm (Am shape at 3rd fret), Bb (A shape at 1st fret).
The song's alright, have to say I think Marr never quite reached the level he was at with The Smiths thereafter however.
