I would agree to you. Yes right now, Lithuanians and Samogitians assimilated, but back then, they were separate nations. And highlanders(dzūkai, aukštaičiai, suvalkiečiai) -were called Lithuanians. Offcourse, back then samogitia was a little bit larger then it is now. Most of lithuanians couln't imagine that Kėdainiai, or Raseiniai were considered to be the capital of samogitia and held their parliament. Or that only samogitians and no lithuanians participated in battles of Saulė, Durbė.

Auka seniems dievams means OFFERING TO THE ANCIENT GODS, maybe you could translate as "sacrifice to the gods of old", but you can't translate as as victim for old gods! it sounds ridiculous! And in the song he sings that he offer his life in the battle as a sacrifice to the ancient god's
