@chrismca the original 4 track demos Stuart and Bruce worked on are included in the new 'deluxe edition' version of The Crossing, released on January 30, 2012. I believe these two here pre-date those even. If I come over to the UK in Feb for some Big Country gigs I'll happily have a pint with you :-) Stay Alive!.
Stewart said (in maybe the first Rolling Stone piece) that some journalists called BC an "overnight success" after the Crossing hit, and how he had to correct them by pointing out how long he and Bruce worked in the basement of the local community center with just a 4 track and drum machine. Are these tracks from those work sessions?
In any case, great detective work uncovering them, and thanks for the great post. Both new, and they take me back to a good place.
Magic, thanks for posting.

It's sounds like an early version of 'The Crossing'

I believe the first part to be an early working of the song "The Crossing" which strangely enough never made the album of the same name.

Wasn't this eventually released on an EP? I forget what the track was called, though.
