Barrack and Maya are identical in the way that they speak publicly. They both use umm/uhh a lot. I find that so adorable that they both share the same tendencies and habits.
Maya, is one of the most genuine, intelligent, and sweetest individuals. My fiance's mother teaches with her in Hawaii, and let me tell you she does not represent past siblings advocating for their brother's. She doesn't have a vicious bone in her body, is honest, and her family comes from a place of diversity. That is why it's always so surprising when people actually think Obama is racist against whites. It's just so far from the truth.
Thank you for sharing this. I cried and I laughed and laughed. Her next career could be in stand-up. SHe's a great story teller :) She is a History teacher, after all.
I like how she says that Barrack is her brother...not half brother. I never understood how people can say that if you came from the same mother, and was raised in the same home. Thats her brother and she shares how close they are. SHe is beautiful and she is right when she says that the audience members look like her family!
Should I be impressed with a half sister of Obama? I'm sure my message will be
deleted, but I don't remember any half sisters or brothers of other Presidential campaigns being involved...but I guess this is a differenty campaign.
Roger Clinton, Bill's half-brother, did not actively campaign. Of course, he had his own issues.
More recently, the importance of Jeb Bush to his brother's campaigns can not be overstated.
Maya is neither a George nor Jeb.
I can not speak for others, but my interest in attending Maya's event was to learn more about someone who was shaped by (and an influence to) my preferred candidate in this election.
Speaking only for me, I left very positively impressed.
Obama's family along with many families in the 21st Centruy have half-siblings. My father was married twice. He had 4 children from his 1st marriage, and 4 children with my Mom. My siblings and I never refered to one another as "half." Our parents always refered to us as brother & sister. Barack Obama and his sister do not refer to one another as half. It's the media that emphasizes this point, which is truly "pointless" and rude because the two of them don't see it that way.
@dave98503 Intelligent, articulate, and supportive. Sure it was a soft pitch but who would you want to introduce a previously unknown candidate and familiarize the world with him. I think it was a masterful idea.
She is a very intelligent, compassionate and accomplished individual.

Yes, this is a different campaign. And the candidate is REAL, as is his half sister. What a relief!

The campaign should put Maya Soetoro-Ng on national media. She is inspiring.
