Natsu is far from standing on equal ground as Laxus. Laxus is right now much MUCH stronger then natsu, maybe someday natsu will be on equal level of power as laxus, but right now laxus is stronger. ''But Natsu defeated laxus'' Yes, but only after laxus battled Mystogan, Erza, natsu then gajeel saving natsu not once but twice and the fairy law that could have killed natsu and everyone else had he seen them as enemy's witch he never really did. In a 1v1 Laxus would have beaten Natsu hands down.
