@j3fatreyu i just brought a 17 inch macbook pro last week, and it's the updated model (secretly updated, apple didn't announce it.) They only tweaked the hardware, and kept the same design. As far as I am aware, apple won't be redesigning the look of the macbook pro anytime time soon. So best bet is to buy now.

@mdzura117 They'll keep it, and for the exact reason you state. People are just ignorant of why it hasn't been updated for so long. Intel haven't released any new CPU's worthy of the upgrade for a good while, so it hasn't been updated. When the Ivy Bridge Xeons are ready they'll be updated. Apple don't tend to update their workstations unless there's a fairly significant performance boost from the previous generation, and with Ivy Bridge, there will be.

Apple can't Patent the idea of an ultra thin laptop (in general), so they can't sue any company for making Ultrathin laptops.

Good for Apple by being the first to create a thin laptop, it helps drive technology advancements and push for SSD over traditional HDD.

@S13v7n The form factor isn't in question, it's the design of the device itself. It looks a LOT like the MacBook Air. Same wedge, same port placements, nearly identical dimensions and so on. There's other Ultrabooks on the market or coming to market too that don't look like the MacBook Air, but are still the same form factor. The Asus one is strikingly similar, some would say too similar.

With a form factor that thin, its only possible to put I/O ports like USB on the thick end. These ultrathin laptops use a custom motherboard thats much smaller than a traditional laptop motherboard.

Saying that the port locations in the same place means its a copy is wrong...

The Zenbook uses microHDMI, USB 2.0 and 3.0, hows that the same as Thunderbolt? Putting a USB 2.0 port on the same side is not copying...

Again you can't make very different designs on such a form factor

The whole point of it having the same dimensions is because their making two different models 11.1" and 13.3" screens. Many companies make a certain size LCD, so Asus is going to outsource to Samsung to make a custom 11.3" or 13.5" screen just to be different.

The 'same wedge and dimenions' are the result of making a very thin laptop, that really can't go through significant changes to be different.
