  • al jazeera should be banned from all US trerritories

  • they should stop complaining about the US govt and americanization since they are glad to take the foodstamps that we americans are paying for, and all the money the US govt gives. i see so many chammorros on foodstamps paid for by the us govt+ the us military being 26% = what 50% of the money is fucking funded by the us. the fuck is this bitch complaining about. i bet she and her fam is on foodstamps too.

  • @ineedsomescrilla142 the people of guam pay taxes to the US gov't too. get informed before you make your obvious racist fueled remarks.

  • Are these people stupid? The US military base is 26% of the island, think of all that business that goes to the island SOLELY due to the US military and they don't have to worry or spend money on their own defense. You guys don't get to vote because you're not a state and you have to few people to become a state... >.>'

  • @Kanoki989 are YOU stupid? the military NEEDS guam because it is the most strategic location in the pacific. people from guam are americans too and have fought and died alongside people from the mainland US. japanese tourism is the main source of money coming into the economy. we dont depend SOLELY on military business. it's sickening to see all the bigotry within these comments. you people need to get informed before you go making ignorant statements like these...

  • I guarantee that the people in this video either work for government of guam (funded by USA) or are recipients of foodstamps/public housing (funded by USA). Government of Guam somehow employs 60 percent of the population. Also, more than 60 percent of the population of Guam receives assistance in the form of food stamps or housing. This is bullshit.

  • looks like we're going to suffer the same things as Hawaii! CRAP!

  • When I was stationed there the only people who had a problem with us were the little MMA wanna-be tuff guys. People who study history realize we LIBERATED the Island TWICE. The shirts that have I Love Guam then I Heart SPAM on the back is due to the America's feeding the Chamorro people with what they had in thier rucks and supplies.

  • @ozzyz929 so does that mean the government can just take their land without even compensating them? that is entirely against what the american constitution is about....and what is it to be liberated when each government commits rape...spanish, japanese, and american...the u.s. could give a fuck about guam as much as japan or spain did...its all about power...maybe thats why all those mma tuff guys wana fuck up ignorant people like yourself who are brainwashed by the military

  • @kingjamessolja compensation? that woman is probably on foodstamps, and welfare, with her 50 children and grandchildren. take their land? my ass i bet it wasnt even the us that took it, but gov guam that took it from them and sold to the usa.

  • @kingjamessolja dumbass

  • @twinpeninsulas very well prepared fact supported eloquent reply you have there...surely reflects your intelligence at best

  • Just like Hawaii. The U.S. no give a damn! All they care about is their own military power and greed!

  • @DeltaEagle7700

Kiddo, I'm a Chamorro, and trust me, AlJazeera cherry picking and selecting the less than 0.1% of the extremist population doesn't reflect the overall views of the Chamorro population. The fact of the matter is, without the U.S. support and influence, Guam will be nothing more than a rat hole with no maintenance for infrastructure. Tourist from Japan, Korea and other surrounding Asian countries will stop coming to Guam if it's a 3rd world environment.

  • This video is not that justifying... But then again 2 minutes is no where near enough time to perform such a heavy task.

  • I live in a small town within the territories of the original thirteen colonies. My relatives helped free Guam from the Japanese, and I only have the deepest respect for these people. I think, as Americans, we should all cherish all our many cultures! I think it is silly to keep such an extensive military base here, given that Spain and Japan are our allies, and I have to ask: do many Guamanians wish for indepencence? If so, I would gladly support you, but the comments begin to confuse me.

  • @ABookwormAndProud

No, we don't want independence. We want the U.S. base here, although there is a danger of being a target from the rogues states in Asia, the economic and infrastructure maintenance support that the state gives us is too enormous. Those asking for independence are the less than 0.1% extremist group that AlJazeera essentially cherry picked out. This short documentary simply disgusts me as a Chamorro. We are proud of our Chamorro heritage and we are proud of being an American.

  • @ABookwormAndProud hell no. only idiots want guam independence. we dont have any natural resources to profit off of.

  • im with the people who dont like the build up itll just make guam a target

  • @thesideshort I am a native from Guam and can say that these are just a few people who feels that way. Don't assume everyone on Guam dislikes the build of troops. If you were paying any attention you would have heard the host say that they were a small group of activist. As far as ungrateful. The U.S. Government barely recognizes nor brings attention to the liberation of Guam. I've spoken to many American vets who were part of the liberation and they don't get the credit nor attention they des

  • @pinkislander how much i agree with you. i lived in dededo for 12 years and i love guam. if the island gained independance it would slowly start to drain all of its assets, roads would go un repaired schools would close due to no mantinance. gmh would suffer. drug usage would rise. then what would the land be good for the torurist would leave and so would the money. look at the jobs that are opening because of the militairy. if they leave so do the jobs. not just base jobs.

  • deport da Americans! illegals get out of Guam!

  • thats my island. its nice to know that we are getting some attention on the international level as small as guam is. i dont want the build up either.

  • The Guam residents should never sell out. If you want to say thanks for liberation, just send a hallmark and save your life.

  • you guys are a trip just wait til the marines get there from oki and start with the f*kin rape cases. keep the squids and those flyboys but for the sake of our women, lose those jars.

  • @jdub671 PSH. FUCK the chamorro activists. There would BE NO guam if it wasn't for the United States Marines. All you chamorros, would be speaking Japanese. The least you can do is sit the fuck back and let them do whats good for the U.S. Ungrateful Fucks.

  • @TheSideShort Kid, calm down. We Chamorro's are Americans as well. It's the less than 0.1% extremist population that AlJazeera is high lighting, that's all. FYI, we lost our language since the American's took over control from the Japanese. We already lost our language so it doesn't matter if we spoke Japanese or English. No seriously.. And although we are greatful for the liberation, we don't appreciate a fellow American like yourself looking at us as non-Americans.

  • @CATSHITONEMM I stumbled across this video while looking at arguments for and against Guam's statehood. Since your Chamorro, do you think Guam should be made a full fledged state like Hawaii? I mean, it already seems like the US there and the people of Guam are already American citizens. The pop. is already higher than many states were when they became states. Delaware's pop. was under 100,000 for almost 100 years after statehood. I live in Pennsylvania, just wanted to know a locals opinion.

  • Guam is friendly and supportive to the US Troops asides from maybe a handful of protesters. This is extreme, no wonder it's on Al Jazeera. Americans, don't believe this BS. Guam is a part of our country and the most loving, beautiful place I've ever been. I understand the people featured here and the feeling of many locals that they were robbed of a homeland but that does not mean they don't appreciate Uncle Sam.

  • @gothikitten1

My favorite barber is from Guam.

  • Get off of utube

  • guam used to be part of spain along with cuba, puertorico, and philipines spain should have still controlled it

  • @felixdakaiser

haha... Spain ruled it by force, then lost it in the Spanish American war.... Spain is definitely out of the picture here.

  • this is interesting. i dont think the military should pull out but if you think about it Guam is paying the price for what people did in Okinawa. japan kicked the US out of japan and i guess they dont have much choices.

  • My father fought for the island of Guam in 1944. His best buddy died in his arms during the invasion. Ugly words should not be spoken about the americans on Guam. Alot died for the island getting it back from Japan. Ofcourse some young marines have done bad things on Guam, Dont judge the corps because of them.

The Japs cut the babies out of the Guam woman before the marines landed in 1944. They were and still are all about themselves. Guam and the phillipines need the U.S.A. for protection.

  • Thats such bullshit. The Japanese have taken over Guam in terms of tourism and it caters to the Japanese. If it werent for the USA Guam would be an outpost for the Yakuza. Im from Guam and I say fuck you USA haters out there..get a life. Remember if it werent for the USA we'd be getting buttfucked by the Japs ANYWAY.

  • haha omg some people r stupid if we werent under us we would have nothing

  • Government Under American Management (GUAM). This island was gain after the Spanish War. So lets start another one and see who will prevail. Japan tried and found out.

  • If it's not the US there, it's the Japanese tourists. I understand that the US has actually occupied land, however most of the tourism caters to the Japanese and the island is being swallowed up to build hotels and attractions....it looks like no matter what their land is going to someone else.

I for one am going to learn as much about their culture as I can while I'm here, and I will always be respectful this is their home. :)

  • "It's just a memory," how sad...

  • Guam is wonderful

  • انا ضد عسكرة غوام. هذا التكتيك هو ذريعة حتى يتسنى للجنس شامورو سيكون تمحو من خلال ارسال مواطنينا الى العراق وقتل هناك من قبل أولئك المسلحين أصبع.

  • I have a question for alJazeera. Is it your soul goal to always make the US look bad?

  • How many non-military Anglos actually live on Guam?

  • Chamorros are kind of like indians living on a reservation......America owns that island now........We are there so if need be we can kick the shit out of anyone in that part of the world....Put it this way if it wasnt the USA occupying the island...it would be japan...either way without us or them Chamorros would be back in the stone age.......I lived there in the 80s....nice place and nothing against Chamorros......im just being real...

  • Just a question, how is Guam going to support itself if it became independent? I hope somebody has a plan!

  • I don't think the majority of Chamorros want Guam to be an independent country, but the level of military occupation that the island is being used for right now is kind of getting out of hand. It's starting to overwhelm parts of our culture.

  • Oh okay. What do you mean by it's starting to overwhelm parts of your culture?

  • The culture is the lifestyle of the people, and the predominant area that defines culture is religion. As the video said, the majority of Chamorros are Catholic, but when the next high-level military occupation comes, they may find themselves as the minority. Whether or it means Catholicism or Christianity in general, part of the culture will be lost. The video makes other points as well, but that stood out the most to me.

  • Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

  • great video

it voices the need for the Chamorro people to take a stand

and all my fellow chamorros commenting in chamorro...

stop internet banging our culture and get out there and save our culture because its dying

  • this video is the biggest load of shit ive ever seen. many chammorrans would take any chance they get to smash a white mans head with a baseball bat based on the simple fact that he is white. SOME Chammorans (in the video) are pieces of shit. chammoran culture is mediokre at best anyway. btw i respect every chammoran that truly supports the U.S. and the military on guam.

  • Chammorans? mann before you try to lay some "facts" down, get the terminology right and how about actually be a Chamorro and know the lifetstyle etc before speaking in such an idiotic manner.

that is not true that Chamorros would bash s haoles head in because he's white...we have come to term with the many cultures on the island..Now if you one of those white marines who go out and are loud and abuse Guams hospitality then you might get your head bashed in

  • Hanao hao para gi infietno!

  • This video is a total sham. The governor of Guam IS Chomorro! There's far more Phillipinos, Japanese, and Koreans, and Taiwanese here than there are Americans. The majoritiy of Americans here are Chamorro. So none of his arguments make sense. It's like worrying about the Aribization of Arabia.

  • Guam is also strongly Republican so it strongly supports American culture. There isn't even a direct flight from the US to Guam they are all from Manila, Tokyo, Osaka, or Seoul.

  • wow very wrong....Honolulu (a US state if you didnt know) is the first stop you make to Guam. those are other ways you can go but Guam does have a closer connection.

  • There are only occaisional flight packages that allow you to travel through Honolulu, which isn't a state. It is in a state, but that state is Hawaii. The main connections to Guam are Tokyo Narita and Osaka.

  • ok excuse my Type-o i forgot since we are on the internet we have to be very specific because we all like to correct people smh....but any way you can fly from Oahu/Hawaii<---thats part of our states...to Guam ive done it MANY TIMES before!!!!! on no special package or anything. Mayb its where certain people fly from but frm CA thats how i fly.

  • Esta magahit!

  • @WMEC38 the president of the phillipines or whatever they call it there is filipino...yet they have one of the most corrupt governments and that is why they are a 3rd world country.....the u.s. rapes guam of their land and doesnt give them any compensation...you must not know anything about that...

  • @kingjamessolja hmmm, the u.s rapes guam? how? from what ive seen, guam rapes the us citizens and takes our taxes so that they can sleep all day and get fed by their food stamps that they spend on chips and soda

  • (Continued from above...) Is there room for improvement in the Guam-Washington relationship? OF COURSE. Does there need to be a seismic change in attitude in D.C. over our status as an unincorporated territory with virtually no participation in national politics? YES. Do we run to our enemies (AL-JAZEERA) to bash our own country? NO! (There's enough spitting on America by the American Far Left on the mainland...we [Chamorros/Guamanians] don't need to join them.)

  • I agree that American territories SHOULD have representation in American, national politics!

  • Why is everyone so up in arms about this video when it is nothing but PURE, UNADULTERATED ANTI-AMERICAN PROPAGANDA put out by none other than Al-Jazeera, of all the God-forsaken mouth-pieces of the "I Hate America" crowd? So they go to Guam and seek out the handful of extremists and then pretend that they speak for all/many Guamanians. (Continued below...)

  • @rqflores No that's not it...But extremists? I would hardly call the people holding the signs up that... Sorry dude but I know where your coming from, I don't hate the U.S. I do think that they are just being fucked up just cuz they can...

  • @rqflores what you said is what the American does to countries such as Pakistan, China, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan etc. What goes around comes around I guess?

  • Ask anyone in the military who has ever served beside Guamanians and they will tell you, Guamanians are some of the most patriotic Americans you will ever find. You can compare the number of military recruits per capita from Guam to any state in the union and chances are Guam will have them beat.

  • Hafa Adai! Teach the Chamorro children the best of themselves, and teach them to work hard and get a good education so they have choices. It's not the Americans fault, it's the parents fault. Who is teaching the traditions? I make kelaguen, I make pancit and finadene too. Are you teaching and learning your culture? If you teach nothing, then you have nothing to complain about but yourself. If you won't listen and learn from the elders, then you have nobody to blame for the loss of your culture.

  • Are you LDS? I am LDS.

  • Man I support you people for fighting for your right to your land. I mean not to be mean but look what they did to the Hawaiians! There race is almost non existent... Some US help is good not a whole lot!!

  • To cvunit, Al-Qaeda aren't the only people who have hate towards America. North Korea says they have missiles that can reach Guam so don't limit "terrorist" to Al-Qaeda.

  • No... Just no.

  • guam was part of the spanish east indies.. which included the philippines, the marianas, palau, and carolinas. adminitrative capital in manila. native chamorros have many faces... asian, hispanic, caucasian, micronesian, filipino, etc.

  • many filipinos live in guam, so you cant look at this video and say that all the people in the video are native. filipinos just dont like to be filipino.. so they try to make everyone else filipino.

  • what's your point? japanese look like chinese, chinese look like korean, malaysian look like fiipino, indonesian look like malaysian, puerto rican look like cuban, german look like polish, etc. etc. etc.. even my malaysian friend hate when filipino always have to assume she is filipino. she never ask other people if they are malaysian. i think filipino hate to be filipino so it make them comfortable to try to find other filipino to talk to.

  • excuse me? i didn't say anything, I just say that the movie shoot in the Philippines, heller get your bacon from the plate, hahahaha

  • if you think about it this is the same as imperialism, pretty much the same as the British Empire, just the American Empire.

  • im in the military and i believe these people have the right to elect a rep. and have a vote. at the same time the military presence on the island most def. benefits it.

  • They have a non-voting Rep in the House of Representatives and can vote in the presidential primary, but they have no representation in the electoral college and have no vote for president in November.

  • I think they should be able to vote for president atleast!

  • wow U.S is the great nation in the world your life will be a lot harder if the Japanese or french were ruling it and the military base is a good thing... bring more money for you guys and.. and i lol'ed at the sign saying terrorist target... dude I don't think some al quada is going to fly all the way to Guam to kill couple of Americans.

  • To say US is the "greatest nation" in the world is going to far man. Maybe in some areas US is good.Certainly US in some areas like example healthcare is way worse then so called "commies" in Cuba. For some its not about money is about their native lands. Maybe not "Al Quada" that might attack US but those anger and hatred Guam people might turn to "terrorism". It funny how quickly u guys defend your aggression and teach human rights but do the same as those "commies"

  • Considering the complaining, the island was trashed in many places, places lived in by locals.

  • Guam will get statehood sooner or later. Just you wait!

  • I'm only half Chamorro but i agree with the reasoning behind the protests. I personaly find it offensive that my parents, relatives I are not allowed a vote for the president, or allowed a representative, even though the the island is subject to a swelling of foreign capitalism, and the lands are subject to confiscation by the military. The least the US can do is give (not only us, but samoa and the other island territories) a full citizenship rather than a hollow one.

  • I think American nationals should atleast get to vote for president. They are apart of America too.

  • Whether people like my comments or not, If the US left guam right now and shut down the bases and cut the federal aid every time those tin houses got blown to hell in a storm....the island wouldn't even be worth mentioning. If that is the heritage that you want then that is fine. I'm not dogging the chammoro people, I'm just saying, you have been having your cake and eatting it too for far to long to start griping about it now.

  • Americans think that they are so great we they makes everyones lives greater. we dont want to live that way. you dumbass

  • Boo hoo, people who get every benefit of being American and don't pay any Federal taxes...

  • We pay nothing but Federal taxes. Buy a book.

  • they should just step down

(if we never came in it would have still been japanese territory)....just sayin i aint hatin

  • its al jazeera, trying to drum up trouble. Guamanians and chamorros are the most patriotic americans. Yes, there is a unique status being an island that is unincorporated, but it is still US. The Chammoro identity is not under threat from "creeping Americanization" as he says, but from asian immigrants if anything. Good for the Governor for not talking to them!

  • I'm chamorru and I think this chamorro activist thing is stupid, a bunch of stupid tsodas/chauds r complaining, but who r the ones that shop at the base ? If u other stupid tsodas r mad at me for treason, fuck you, our culture is dead even our way of life, so deal w/ it, at least were not fucked up like other non US territories. Dont call me whity, I jst appreciate wat we hav in our generation. Who wants to go back to the times when we had to farm? Idiots. XP

  • dude honestly shut the fuck up. you don't know what you're talking about. what the fuck is tsodas?! it's the young ignorant/arrogant chamorros like you that make me SICK. you don't even deserve to call yourself a chamorro. and the sad part about it is

%99.9999 of the chamorros in our generation share your mentality. ultimately, it's people like YOU who KILL the chamorro culture. not that you care though, because like what you said, it's already "dead" right?

  • Yup, thats right. XP

  • yeah so you should just pack your shit and get off this island, you fucking punk.

  • Hmmmm, that sounds like a good idea, I will come back when this whole damn island isnt a shit hole. XP

  • If the U.S. didnt come in, where do u think u will be shopping at? Guam dosn't even export anything. where do think u will be getting that spam thats been in ur microwave for five days? u stupid retard...

  • shut the fuck up. you don't even know what you are talking about, child. can you specifically quote me any where in one of my cmoments where i have said any anti-u.s. statements or wished they weren't in affiliation with guam?

and btw if the u.s. didn't "come in", i'd still be eating kelaguen binadu, mannok, fanihi, guihan, uhang, and also kalamai, atmayas, hinekksan agaga, titiyas, lemmai, bilembines, attes, ayuyu, etc. shall i go on? with that being said, SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  • Without the U.S. you'd be speaking Japanese so quit bitching dude. You sound like a retard calling someone a "child"

  • Mas maolek ta fama'fino' lengguahen Chapanis. Ti hu manakomprende lengguahen Ingles.

  • Great response. It would truly be Chamorro of you, though, to refrain from profane language and not lower yourself to the mindless populace. They are history-challenged and discard the true history of the heroism of our brothers and sisters. Such individuals run to the nearest border rather than defend the only country that protects them.

You exude true Chamorro pride. Rally our brothers and sisters to stay educated—knowledge is our only power against those who are lacking of reason

  • سلم سِم و حب غلب, إنتص ف غوام.

  • Those young people sound like those on mainland America! Ant-Americanism is alive and well on some of our college campuses.

  • أنا مناهض لأميركا أيضا. غوام هي وطننا ، وليس الولايات المتحدة! الولايات المتحدة هي دولة امبريالية وأرض تمارس التمييز!

  • Don't blame the "chads" for not speaking their language, (*Chauds)

It's the island's school system. Our language (chamorro) is taken as an elective, and english or lanuage arts is MANDATORY.

The U.S. Mainland is also feeling the population changes. Too much spanish or mexican population is growing. The problem with America is that the doors are open and is left open in Guam for philipinos, and other islanders (chukese) who crowd Guam and call it home.

  • eh. i love guam and its sad to see the culture dying. i was born and raised in california and im actually trying to keep my families culture apart of me, my family, and future family. ive been learning from my grandparents, aunts, and uncles. i can almost speak chamorro perfectly :) of course people will know that im not native to the island but atleast im doing more than the people my age thats native to the island.

  • of course Al jazaeera would report in such a bias bullshit way. Why is it that this media station gets all of its reporters from the BBC, o wait they happen to be the most liberal western media out there.

  • Thta's why malago' yu trash i lengguahen Ingles para i imfietno! Threat para hita i manAmerikanu gi tano'ta!

  • I spent time on Guam, beautiful place. Great people. However, I don't know how the area would survive without the Us influence. The education system is a sham, LE, gimme a goddam break. I loved the time I was there and the people I met, but there is nothing there that could allow the island to be a country to it's self.

Import/export... where would the money come from?

  • the USAs agreement with the smaller island nations in the region allowed for many of those islanders to freely live and work anywhere in the USA (including Guam.) Guam had no say in that desicion and we have recieved the brunt of the impact. many of the new arrivals brought their kids and placed them in Guam schools which were not given additional funding by the US in order to accommodate the influx of students. Again, a decision made in Washington that had negative impact on Guam.

  • very will stated bro....

  • there is no possible way to keep guam from becoming a smaller america already our culture is changing. our young chamorros are nothing but law breaking chads that cant speak their own damn language so to hell with guam land wont save u from ur inevitable death of chamorro culture

  • Lmao "law breaking chads who can't speak their own damn language"

Ahh that's so true. I think that the traditional generation of the hospitable, respectful Chamorros has come and gone.

  • Its the same thing what China is doing to Tibet,(example) the Guamanian are the Tibetans, the Americans are the Chinese, like British and Scottish also.

  • Imagine the USA imposing their culture, language, and ideals on your mother country. The situation for us Chamorros is unique because we did not flee our mother land for a new life in America. America came here. Unless your mother country becomes occupied buy the USA, and your culture, customs, and language are threatened, you'll never understand the plight of the Chamorros. True there are benifits, but at what sacrifice? Again, we did not choose to become Americans. Americanism came here.

  • I think its so funny that the people in Guam have been trying to get their country back from the US when so many of them work at the bases and join the Air Force. I went to tech school with these guys now I see them on Andersen. nobodys bitching on the 1st and 15th

  • well stated

  • i agree

  • this is a cont. to the first comment:

You ignorant people suck! So we owe it to the US just cause they liberated us! Bastards gave the Native Amercicans there land back and a state pension! The british returned most of colonies back to the original natives, so how come the US cant do the same for Guam,

All we want is a better deal! and right now the deal sucks!

  • Evil caused us Chamorus to be occupied, the corrupt and power hungry nations who take advantage of a small island who cannot possibly defend for ourselves with the amount of people here.

I would die for Guam and my grandparents lost it all except for thier life!, It took the US three years to comeback to Guam even knowing the locals were still here!

  • Palau, Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands are not US territory.

  • Well then they need to be taken back.

  • To me(and the US government), treason is when you betray your country and/or people by aiding or taking sides with the enemy or enemy state. The treason you speak of is nothing more than a simple desire for self determination and is not intended to attack the United States in any way. Like a child leaving his own family so he can get married and start his own family.

  • To tranzd03: Maybe it's time for the USA to give up Guam. The Japanese are invading the island as it is with tourism. Japan can have it like they wanted it and then eventually took it during WW2.

  • Ohh I have no doubt that the Japanese are invading the island with tourists, but other than that I don't think Japan will ever be taking Guam back ever again. Besides, when I think about it, I just don't see the United States giving up Guam anytime soon. The US still has many interests in the Asia Pacific region. Which is also why I believe that while the US has no problem granting the rest Micronesia its independence, Guam would be the only exception cause it's the largest island in Micronesia.

  • To franzd03: Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Midway Island are still possessions of the USA too, not just Guam.

  • I haven't forgetten about that either. Did you use to live in any of those places or visit them??

  • To franzd03: I have never been to Guam, but I've always wanted to visit Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc. I've never been to the south Pacific but have been to Asia a few times.

  • Do you think the US should conquer those places(Tahiti and Bora Bora)?? Might I remind you Tahiti is under french hands.

  • To franzd03: Why would we want Tahiti? It is worthless to the USA because it does not have any oil.

  • Neither does Guam, Hawaii or any of the other US territories, but it is a Jewel of a paradise so if you had it under your hands you could do what you want with it and even keep it as a getaway vacation home.=)

  • To franzd03: Guam is a strategic military post in the south Pacific for the USA, the same as Okinawa, Guantanamo in Cuba, or Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

  • We love the Chamorro. You should be proud of your heritage. Remember though, you are also Americans. We are all Americans with our own backgrounds but a shared culture. The military is the best representtive of our shared culture. We can and should work together to make "our" America a better place. Thank you Guamanians for your sacrifice and continued support for our great country!

  • FUCK THE U.S. MILITARY

you have more to be proud of than any American

  • Watch your language and yes we are very proud of our heritage but remember the US Military, is combined of our chamorro men and women, are the ones protecting our freedoms and rights.

  • fine! liberate Guam and free the americans from having to subsidize the economy of that backward place! get a CLUE!!

  • We need to think about this, the americans were the ones that liberated Guam the Japanese put our ancestors through torture and deaths and they are still living with it. My mother and family are Chamorros, my mother lost a father, a husband and other relatives through beheadings while under Japanese control. So who should you be trying to kick off the island. Look around you what are surrounded by especially down at Ipao Beach. Sad.

  • Being american and having lived on guam for 3 years I really think the military shouldn't have so much land. but then there's that whole thing with america with your not using the land so were going to use it. Which is so stupid because I love the natural beauty of guam and I don't think they should build anymore. They don't need to have another golf course. Tearing down paradise and building a parking lot is just not a healthy way for our planet or the people's culture.

  • U.S.is the terror threat to Guam! Libre Islan Guahan! Amerika i despachar gaige gi imfietno!

  • It is the fault of this Filipino descent governor!

  • extreme elements want independence. If given independence I am sure they would expect the billion a year from the US government to keep coming. At least that's what is was when I lived there. Guam has hardly suffered from the so-called US occupation. No one has forced the people to accept "Americanisation" Every "American" business has been allowed to build on Guam by YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT WHICH YOU ELECTED! It is called capitalism and Guam and her people have done nothing but benefit from it!

  • Despatsar Amerika gaige gi imfietno!!!!!!!!! Amerika este delubio i Islan Guahan. Hita prutehi Guahan from imperialista!

  • America is not imperialist. The Japanese, who enslaved the local population, were imperialist! Guam has done nothing but benefit from being an American territory. I agree the military has held on to excess lands for too long. But if given independence Guam would suffer. Just as she is reliant on Japanese tourism Guam is also dependant on US government money AND the money military personnel spend in your towns! Guam is far from oppressed!

  • Thats sad, I am in the US Airforce and going to Guam in 2009 for a few years... They are right though in alot of ways...

  • I'm a transplant. I've spent all my adult life here on Guam by choice because the people here are one of the most hospitable, loving and protective lot. Be respectful and you'll find open arms. AlJazeera is promoting dissent. The Chamoru will get compensated for war reparations. It's only right. Imagine one of our own grandparents having to march, stay in an internment camp, raped, maimed or beheaded.

  • Hita prutehi tano'ta.

  • Gof Guinaiya tano-ta. Guaho miss ni.

  • I say give Guam her independence. Cut all US FINANCIAL AID, shut down both bases, and leave. Let Guam try and compete on the world stage with no exports, no industry, and with no financial management. Understand, no nation, empire, or repbulic has ever survived with a imbalance of trade.

  • this vid is POINTLESS. Look who uploaded it. Another typical Islamo-Facist propaganda to demoralize the US. Tell me, do you think it's better that Guam was ruled under Islam?? I will tell you this. Those islamic bastards will definitely eradicate everything Chamorro I guarantee it. I was a former Muslim and know this as truth. Look at all those Asian countries that are ruled under that dark religion, Mindanao, Indonesia, I hear most of the people are so damned brainwashed by that evil religion.

  • those Islamic zealots are demoralizing anything SECRETLY that has anything to do with US interst whether it be their allies even entertainment. Look whats happening in England now. Are you aware that there are parts of London where Islamic law is overtaking British laws? Even the head of the British clergy is bowing dowwn to their demands for fear of backlash and racism. At least France and Norway is standing up to them. Al Jazeera is NO ally of America or Guam. It will do anything to spew hate
