Don't get me wrong. I like Brubaker, Fraction, Carey, etc. They tell good stories. But the franchise was at a whole other level when Morrison and Whedon were running things.

@aimeeish I think she's got the potential to be an awesome fascinating character, but in my opinion, only a few writers have actually managed to do her justice in the comics. Grant Morrison and Joss Whedon both did a great job painting her as a flawed character with a checkered past, but they made her sympathetic by showing us her vulnerable core, and making her love affair with Cyclops her "redemption"

Still, too many other writers find it easier to just write her off as a one-note bitch.

Emma is one of my favorite super heroes because she is soo multi-dimensional in terms of her personality and they way that she is, and it is hard to come across a character like that in movies, tv, comics, in basically anything. I think that you show Emma's highs and lows, how she seems like a bitch (and sometimes, she is) but she is always willing to sacrifice herself for the greater good and she really cares about the x-men.
