@sharpieebitch No, it is code for Gas the Jews -- Mary is a gas station attendant. The Catholic Church was upset by the Blessed Virgin's profession. The new pope has long-ago ties to the Nazi Party -- the power of the film industry. I love the pope, all of them for different reasons. But Pope Benedict VI is my favorite -- he legalized condoms in The Ten Commandments.
@sharpieebitch no, it's not a porno. This is a movie about a girl that gets pregnant without having sex with anyone, just like the Virgin. I haven't seen the movie yet, so I don't know how it is, I just know the main subject.
I don't know why the Pope was so upset about this film portraying the Blessed Virgin Mary as a gas station attendant. Not all Catholics can be wealthy. Maybe the word "gas" was the problem. I doubt that Jesus's mother ever passed gas.
few movies have provoked me to ponder the wonder of existence as much as this one. the scene where the high school biology teacher impresses his students with the statistics of the Ridiculous odds that life evolved at all begs us to ask: What is the greater miracle - that a virgin gave birth or that the Whole Universe was birthed from Nothing? this movie is an essay on the miracle of existence..
This film is great, ive watched it long time ago. I remember that some movie theatres were burn down in Latinoamerica, due to outrage from catholics...

NO! I say to you don't! It is a disgusting film that degrades Chrisitanity, and human dignity of he heart. Don't give stuff like this another chance. I hear of people who LITERALY vomited watching this film.
Well, checkthisout, I was very impressionable back in the day (and a practicing Catholic) and I remember being bored more than anything else. I wasn't that offended. Maybe I didn't understand what Godard was after. May I ask you: did you actually see the film in its entirety?
Let's talk about it. But first I urge you to see the movie. Even if the pope disliked it, any good Catholic may trust his taste and conscience in judging a work of art. I appreciate your honesty in admitting that you didn't see it, but I'd suggest that not having seen a film (or read a book) disqualifies a person in passing judgment on it. Do remember that I had problems with this movie, and I'm curious to see whether my understanding and taste may have changed with regard to it.
The movie isn't about the history of the Catholic Church, leylaziza. It's a modern reimagining of Mary and the Nativity. Give it a try, and let me know what you think of it. I'm interested in open dialogue about this movie!
my replay was aimed to CHECKTHIS OUT...it was a irony related to what she said about the Pope...of course I want to watch the movie...and I know what it is about cause I read some film reviews...
I know he wasn't responsible...but I guess he must've been disgusted about the matter...it is just an ironic comparison of how the church reject some topics and avoid others that damage their image...

I heard it from other people who saw the movie and they were disgusted. Even John Paul II saw this movie and thought it was horrible!

I gotcha. But John Paul II wasn't responsible for the Inquisition or any other Church horrors. Please check in after you see the movie!
