While I would have liked it if they could have made Ryuk look a bit more realistic, it's much better than many other CG characters I've seen. He's atleats better than alot of the CG they use in the Star Wars films.

To make a point about the movie itself, the reason it seems a but...off...is that it just isn't very good. Having the characters be asian has nothing to do with it, but I'm not a big fan of live Action Light. L, on the other hand, is one of the few good things about the movie.

It's no wonder that japanese films shy away from CGI...given they're really bad at it.

And to pimpnhard, I agree mostly, a lot of anime characters do not look remotely japanese, with many exceptions however. Light's an interesting case, as his face looks japanese, but he has red hair, which, needless to say, most asians do not posses. Given the show SAYS hes japanese, I'd be inclined to go with that, but...for many other shows (like naruto) I go with the assumption that they aren't japanese.

idk the thing is.. TO ME.. anime characters always seem like their of a European descent... like.. Goku for example.. he dosnt look Chinese or Japanese.. granted with hair like his he dosnt even look human.. but most anime characters hardly resemble Japanese people.. so when they do live action's .. i cant help but feel it always falls short.. i'd like to see an American version.. idk the series kinda had a drop off and the movie would probably fail.. but i'd watch it.. if it was good looking.

I prefer Ryuk's dub voice better because it makes him sound inhuman like he is and is threatening just like he is. The laugh in the dub movie is a lot more scary and moves you to fear.
