I own the same Breedlove as the one you demo here. It sounded drastically different than the one hanging next to it that day in GC when I bought it in Aug. 2008. It is over 4 years old now and the thing just sings. I also LOVE the way it looks. It is a desirable guitar even though I'm a purist and like simple appointments on a guitar as long as the tone is gorgeous. I prefer the Breedlove here too. I do like Taylor's high end stuff quite a bit though and have serious GAS for the 8 string Bari.
The Breedlove sounded like an ovation with a plastic back , no woodtone at all . The Taylor 114 is one of their cheapest guitars and it had more balance and the mids are more present . I own a Breedlove and a Taylor and an Ovation . My Taylor is better in all categories for my style , then my ovation is my second choice and I find my breed might be for sale soon . It's not for aggressive fingerstyle .
Whatever method of recording you used (sounds plugged-in if I had to guess), I don't believe the EQ was set well. You can kind of get an idea of what they sound like, but I don't think these recordings do justice to either guitar. Thanks for the comparison though.
It's not the strings or the settings. But the 114 CE is a really cheap Taylor. The 615 is a much better Taylor. I did the recording test to find out for myself which one I liked better. Turns out I'm selling my Taylor and keeping the Breedlove after listening to the recording.
I prefer the Taylor...more focused sound, the Breedlove is a little too boomy for my taste..

I own the Breedlove and I bought it because it blew away the Taylor tonewise.

the breedlove sounds far better but it could just be that it has a better pickup system?

Actually I was strumming in the same place on both guitars not quite the center of the soundhole.

taylor = bright and great for chords strumming breedlove=deep, mellow and good for picking and folk. just my opinion
suicidalbunny1500 1 year ago
are you using the same type of strings on both guitars?
In my opinion the Breedlove has a much fuller/richer tone-
Kinda sad to say as I caught in the middle between buying a breedlove or taylor.
I'm looking at the 615ce Jumbo taylor or a comparable Breedlove-
No doubt though, the 114 Taylor sound tiny.

The Taylor has a more interesting sound to my ear. Both very nice guitars though.

I have to agree with you, but I may be a little bias as I own a Breedlove AC250-sm 12, and just like the sound they put out.

Nice video. I like the Taylor better - a fuller, more rounded sound than the Breedlove.
